Why Coconut Oil Is So Expensive | So Expensive | Business Insider
Coconuts produce some of the most expensive cooking oil, selling for up to 12 times the price of canola oil in the United States. But the health benefits coconut oil devotees swear by are hotly contested, and the American Heart Association even recommended that consumption be avoided. Nevertheless, the industry is expected to grow by half a billion dollars worldwide over the next four years. So with the controversial conversation surrounding the product, why is coconut oil so expensive?

(Edit : just because of the nonsensical comments, I need to specify a scientific reason for that, viz., In Kerala, Southern Tip of India, the people consume this oil for just everything, and God, they outlive most Indians and have the most gorgeous skin ! Coconut Oil has very high content of Lauric Acid, not just that the Caprylic Triglycerides make it a very efficient fat burning fuel). The silly nonsense of the scares of saturated fat comes from myths. This fat readily burns and doesn't not trigger the cytokines like how Soybean or Canola or Sunflower oil do, due to their PUFA content which is loaded with Omega 6s, Coconut oil, is the progenitor of MCT oil used in the West today, Also, Coconut Oil doesn't oxidise as quick as other vegetable oils do which works on its ability to not allow COX-2 enzymes from wrecking havoc on our body unlike, the unhealthy PUFA fat is popularised by the sold-out American media. PUFA actually causes more harm to us due to its oxidative behaviour. Coconut Oil does not need stabilizers or preservatives, so it's just virgin coconut oil, unless additives are added to sell it for cheap. Not just that, it has properties to boost the PPAR-α And lower the TNF-2β markers in the body. It's smoke point is some 300°C which makes it the best oil for frying without the dangers of the alteration of the fat molecules. Due to strong carbon coupling. I can go on and on this.... Also, I am not a native of Kerala or of that ancestry. I am just sick of the fools in my country who believe that the Western everything excels our ancient Ayurvedic studies. I can decimate one in a debate, thankfully, I'm also glad that the people in the West to appreciate the Ayurveda more than our local Indians, obviously because the people in the West value heritage and history and our Indians are just stuck in the post colonial hangover. P.S. I am not a radical Hindutva guy (infact, I'm a Christian, a true nationalist Indian, don't need no certificate from anyone on my patriotism) And yes, just like how the Oleic Acid from Olive and Walnuts boosts longevity, I'm sure, it's something in Coconut Oil, that maybe we'd have more research on sooner.

During TLE class back in grade 9, we had to cook ube rice cake for our performance which included coconut milk. We were tasked to sell them for a week and for the first day, we went at the front of our school where there were coconut trees and took a few coconuts. Then, we opened them by borrowing machetes from the agriculture college course to open them up. Most of us didn’t know how to crack open a coconut so one of our classmates who wasn’t even in our group did it and her hands were like magic with how easily she did it. My group wasn’t as prepared so we just borrowed a “kudkuran” (a manual tool used to scrape off the coconut flesh) from the other class and did it ourselves. Let me tell you, the labour was hard but the experience was fun! Exactly, at the moment bitcoin is the best and profitable coin to buy and invest in.
Crypto trading is very profitable when you trade well.
How does this whole bitcoin thing works, I'm interested in it and willing and ready to invest heavily but I need an assistant to properly guide me through on how to make a good startup and be successful in it without making mistakes.
Just bought $10k Ethereum and $30k bitcoin with the recent dump in crypto I was told it's the right time to buy and get ready for a skyrocket.
The only safe reliable, genuine and highly experienced expert I can refer you to is Mrs stacy Griffin Kartner

it is expensive when you import it or if it is cold press. But coconut oil as regular is cheap here in PH
In US Coconut oil = expensive Canola oil = cheap In Malaysia Coconut oil = cheap Canola oil = expensive It's expensive because you purchase it from abroad.
In Philippines both are reasonable.
@@rim2116 Real olive oil is expensive in PH though. Cost twice a much as US. But because it's not native. And only a few amount of people actually can afford it and few amount of people would actually care to pay it.
@@namenotfound8747 What's your point tho? Coconut and and canola oil are both in reasonable price. Where's the olive?
@@rim2116My point is cooking oil that is not native or widely sold internationally tends to be expensive. Olive oil is a good example, peanut oil is another good one.
as far as I know another name to called it is VIrgin Coconot Oil (VCO) it's the type of oil that comes out from coconut that have transparant colour, coconut aroma oil, and it can used for various things like cooking, skin care and so on. You can try to make it by using vinegar.
indonesia has a problem with cooking oil prices lately, because some greedy businessmen are smuggling their supplies out for export despite it being illegal, hence now the prices of palm oil rivals that of a coconut oil, might as well go for the latter which is healthier now that the price point really doesn't matter
