Major Storm Damage - TORNADO Hit Our Farm
Major Storm Damage 5-12-22 If the over abundance of rain wasn't bad enough this wind storm/tornado damage has got us stressed out! Thankfully we're all safe and everything on the farm can be replaced. We lost our cold storage shed and at least 1 grain bin. Mostly all of the equipment stored in the shed was also damaged.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Thank you all for the kind words!! They are greatly appreciated! We will be alright. Luckily the machinery we need for planting will be back up and running very soon. We have awesome viewers 😁
So glad to hear
Great news, hopefully the WX decides to play nice for a bit.
Oh my god my heart goes out to you all, luckily you guys are alright but some of that equipment is probably severely damaged! I wish you and your family all the best!
That are good news. All the best for you, and thx for all the good videos
Steel frame not wood
11:00 Becky has her priorities straight, stuff can always be replaced and rebuilt, people can't. Glad everyone is safe.
yep this is why I want a house with a basement
It's not that the wind is blowing, it's what the wind could be blowing. A 2X4 going 80+mph will go through a person like a javlin, so ya she has the right.
@@mleger2797 my uncle told me that a 2x4 went through his chevy pickup through the engine block when my dad was 14... he said the winds were over a 100 miles an hr ... they found 3 of there draft horses with tree limbs that had gone through them..
Well said
Sorry to see all the damage, but glad everyone's safe! Hope your insurance covers most of your losses.
I’ll tell ya, when Zach first went out to the cold storage shed and seeing his reaction, my heart absolutely sunk. I’m sorry for the losses Zach (and everyone effected) that’s tough stuff to see😔
Yeah, I lost it for a second. Glad to to see them able to joke about it a bit. Reminds me I can always find something to be grateful for. They’re safe
As soon as I saw metal in the trees I knew it wasn't going to be good. I've spent a lot of time around tornados but I'm thankful that Zach and his family are safe. Equipment can be replaced, buildings can be rebuilt.
It's different when the fields are ready to harvest and this happens insurance don't cover all of that like it does this. Glad everyone is safe too.
I had the exact reaction
@@JoshJackson13 yeah but how soon can they get crop in the ground, Zach likely won't be making money on crop this year even without the cost of fixing bins and sheds due to how short the season is likely going to be. Some farmers in the area possibly won't even be planting this year
“ your golf clubs tipped over”. - that was classic.
Your dad is low key one of the most chill guys ever lol
Yea
Zach, when you see a news report of tornado damage, although your heart still goes out to the people involved, you feel a certain detachment. Watching this video made me feel like a catastrophe happened to a family member, even though we've never met. I know it must've been difficult to film all of the devastation when all you probably wanted to do is wish it all away. You have always said that your purpose in having this KZhead channel is to share all aspects of farm life with non-farmers so that we can see what it's really like. Part of that is sharing the heartbreak along with the joy. Thank you and God bless you.
I feel exactly the same way, well put
I love this
You are spot on with this message. Our hearts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time
Wow reading your comment after watching this video kinda brought a tear to my eye? Very well put.
Zach I'm so very sorry. What a gut punch! The 2x4 in the tractor cab is what really gets me. I remember being the first one to pickup when dad wanted to go "assess damage." As a farm wife, I want to say thank you for giving your wife not one "but" or "just a second." Thank you for respecting her heart like that. I hope all this hurry, hurry, wait still comes out as a decent crop this harvest.
I’m sorry for your loss Zach. We’ve had a few of those in Iowa. We finally have had luck in planting approx 50% as of this writing. Hope your insurance goes without problems!!
Wow, about 8 minutes in and Zach sees the damage, just crushing. What a resilient family. I don’t view this as whining, this is America, and the struggles that our farmers face. Thank you Zach and family!
They really are our backbone. And the fact they have to wait for price of crops to be good in order to live comfortably is dumb
.... Zach's Dad and Himself -- [Zach] (Family farm operations) are 'big balls' men....(and women❤)....3 generations in KZhead videos.... Blessings and praying American Farmer's operations, Amen ♥️.
"Your golf clubs tipped over." It is amazing to see people's reactions to crazy situations. Hope you guys are getting the pieces picked up around there!
Somehow in the middle of a crisis he still manages to throw in a little one line comedy wither he means to or not. Gotta make the best of it.
Wow, that's absolutely devastating and adding to your stresses. Hate to hear of anyone going through this, much less family farms. Yall will definitely be in our thoughts and prayers.
Man, that was a lot of damage, my heart goes out to you and everyone affected by this storm. Glad your family is safe.
The raw emotion when you saw the cold storage breaks a guys heart. So happy everyone is okay! Sending prayers
Yay can feel the pain. Glad everyone is okay.
Glad no one was hurt, sorry for your damage. Sending prayers for good weather and a quick recovery! 🙏🏻🙏🏻😎😎

..and Ireland 🇮🇪 . You and your family are safe. That is all that matters.
From Thailand, glad everyone is safe.
So happy that everyone is ok, I felt that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach as you found the damage. Be safe and take it one day at a time.
Zach, we are so glad you and your family are safe. Damage can mostly be repaired and improvements made in the process. You and your family inspire everyone by staying positive in adversity. Strongs with the mop up and rebuild. Sending you good vibes from South Africa.
I don't think I've actually ever heard zach properly swear in a video. What a mess. Glad everyone is OK. Hope you can plant soon.
you should watch his TikToks lol
@@buffman102 and the podcast
@@tclott316 Yea that too! lol I don't listen to it alot so i forget about that one
No, he doesn't usually. But it was disappointing on a racing video to hear Onyx use a swear word; and today, disappointed to hear one of the girls use a raw word. Wasn't what you'd think a little girl would say. But, I'm a retired elem. teacher, and it seems the culture has changed.
Your reaction to seeing the shed gone was so eye opening. The panic in your voice and the fear on your face was something unlike anything I've ever seen before. I am so sorry about your damages. I hope you all are able to recover with too many headaches.
That brought tears to my eyes.
That sucks so sorry for all that. My prayers are with you and your family and friends
Yup. You don’t want to see your stuff destroyed. This looks just like the mangled steel warehouse near me after the tornado. But probably less damage. That’s a lot of money gone when a storm rolls through and breaks junk. All that hard work just for the sky to give you a big middle finger.
They're were definitely a Lotta f*** in there and I don't blame him
Zach, so sorry about your losses in the storm. Farming can be cruel as you know, from the terrible drought last summer to this excess moisture now. I appreciate your grace and humor on the video. A good example of just taking it as it comes and moving on.
Holy cow I'm absolutly astonished by your calmness I have chills even by looking at all the damage. Wish you guys all the best, best regards all the way from Poland!
You are not whining! And you were, you are 100% entitled to. This devastation will only be a memory. You will rebuild better and stronger because you and your family are Strong 💪
Mad respect, dude, for maintaining composure enough to share this heartbreak with us. I really hope you can get everything fixed up soon. All the very best thoughts from the UK.
Machines and materials can be replaced with insurance money, people can't. hopefully everyone is okay and well despite the huge amount of damage caused by the storm
Prayers to you, Zack. Thank God your family is safe.
I am so sorry you guys!! We went through a major major storm in Minnesota on Wednesday.. terrifying for us Western New Yorkers who are only used to snow storms! My heart sank when you went out and saw that damage! Praying you are up and running again very soon! 🙏
Tough times for the Millennial Farmer. You pay a fortune for insurance, but this is why. You’ll come out better and stronger. So glad you and the family did not get hurt. Thanks for taking the time to record your initial reactions.
It's absolutely heartbreaking when Zack rounds the trees and sees almost his whole operation destroyed. I was tearing up seeing it pal. God Bless you and the family.
SO WAS I DAVID SO SAD.
Ok, me too
Wow! So sorry for you guys! On a year of high input costs this one has got to hurt. So glad ya'll are okay! You're in our thoughts and prayers!
Damn ... So sorry to see and hear this.. Thanks for having us along to share this and your initial reactions .. We all appreciate all your content and the efforts that go into making it.. Good luck to you and the family .. Glad you guys are all ok
My heart sank when you rounded the corner and caught a glimpse of the cold storage shed. :-( Glad everyone is okay.
Hey Zack, we had a tornado roll through our farm in 13' in Ontario. Tractors were destroyed but just remember equipment can be replaced but family can't be. Glad you are all safe
Sorry for your loss! I know what you are feeling. Prayers for all involved in the tornado. God Bless all
Heart goes out to you man! Rebuild and come back better than ever! Love from the UK!
Love the resilience of kids, Onyx won the day by saying: " I know what's wrong wit it, it ain't got no gas in it"
Thanks for sharing this. That moment in the yard when you were exercising your vocabulary and yet you still held the camera up for us. We are there with you in spirit.
Zach thank you so much for sharing this with the world. You are a true ambassador for farmers across the world. Your channel shows the highs and lows of farming. New Zealand wishes you a speedy receiver and prosperous season ahead
Nothing but respect and heartbreak for you and all involved. I'm a former farm kid and can remember things like this happening and hopefully recovery is quick. prayers for you and your family.
Hi Zach. Sorry for all the damage and the haters. So glad no one was injured. Gods speed on the recovery. God bless you all.
Zack and Becky this video puts a pit in my belly. I’m watching you assess the damage and I’m thinking how is he not breaking down? Then I saw your dad and his positive attitude like yours and thought that’s how. You are amazing. By far the best line was, “Your golf clubs tipped over.” Best of luck to your family on the rebuilding!
I got a good chuckle out of "that roof is supposed to be higher" as he shows it laying on the ground. . .
I laughed about the golf clubs as well
Prayers for your family and all the other farmers affected by the storm.
I felt that when you saw the shed. I am amazed at how well you guys are taking things, you are a good witness of faith and choosing joy. And Becky is a keeper! I was very glad when you headed back to wait for the storm to pass where you were needed most! Thank you for taking us along, I know it's extra work for you, and a few malcontents always complaining or saying that you are doing things wrong (sometimes it MIGHT even be me! *cough prefillling filters cough*), but having all these people praying for you and sending good energy can't hurt!
I'm really sorry to see all the damage. I can only imagine the stress it creates in an already challenging year. Stay strong.
Honestly when I watched MF go around the race shed and see the building I felt like I was there. That empty feeling in your stomach that you just think "that's it, it's over. I lost everything." Then you go and pick up the pieces and learn that it's not as bad as it could have been. I bet this day and the couple days after were just a rollercoaster of emotions.
Well, this is what pure, real life reaction looks like. Unlike some staged document on Discovery Channel.
Yep they will fix what they can fix replace what they have to replace. Hopefully pocket some of that Insurance money!! The biggest issue is the planter but as wet as it is it will be a couple of weeks before there in the field weather permitting. The grain bin may be a issue come fall for storage. I'm sure there are a few bins down around there.
@@hillbillyhicks8102 On the I lG there were stories about that, planter is not as damaged as it looked like. Mostly cosmetic stuff, one marker is broken and left grain tank is badly damaged, porbabky needs replacing. But it could be way, way worse than that.
I've followed you and your wonderful family for years. Your videos are equally informative and wonderfully entertaining .... I have no words except to say I am so sorry for your loss.. Glad you are all safe. Machinery can be replaced, but your family cannot .. Thanks for all you do to inform and promote agriculture in our country. Best to you and your family ...
Glad all of are safe. Hope you can recover quickly. Thank you for sharing the raw footage of reactions to the storm. We lived in Nebraska for many years and I would always go out and find the tornados. I can remember staying out in the field ahead of storms until the last possible minute before picking up and going home. I hate see the damage, but I do miss the weather in the Midwest. Thanks again for sharing!
I been watching you for a long time and if anyone can turn this around you can. You and your dad are hard workers and will be ok. I would come over to help you if I didn’t live in California.
I appreciate you keeping us up to date and am so sorry about all the damage you’ve sustained. I wish you could share some of that rain with us in Texas.
My heart goes out to you and your family Zach. We went through a derecho on May 8, 2009. Winds up to 106 mph. We spent six days without power and to this day this event is referred to as "The May 8th Storm" here in Southern Illinois. Something I never want to experience again. You and your family will remain in my prayers.
Yep, small rural town in tornado alley and just like you, we get out and drive around after (sometimes during) the storm to see all the crazy damage they do. I've been within a half mile of 3 different tornados and they never fail to impress me with what they are capable of doing.
7:00 oh poor kiddos. I've been yelled at by my kids in EXACTLY the same way during our 100mph wind storm this past winter:) Praying you guys all stay safe and that the weather improves soon! So sorry about all the damage:/
One of my daughters was dry heaving during the tornado we had 3 weeks ago, the other was nervous, but harsh reactions were had like Zach kids
I can tell a fellow Minnesotan, we go out in the middle of storm and swaying tall trees just to see how things look. Stay safe, we are rooting for you and family.
Mate I'm so sorry to see what you guys have gone through, glad to see you are all ok, my thoughts are with you all. All the best.
So sorry Zach this sucks I still don’t know how you didn’t break down it tears, when I heard the disappointment in your voice my heart sunk. Prayers out to you guys hoping everything is ok.😕
Man this is so hard to watch. Can’t imagine. I know you’ll keep your great attitude and get through this. Farmers are built different. Prayers to you and the family!
Dang Zach, you cant catch a break!!! Prayers that things work out man. Hopefully you can get something going.
That's terrible man and our hearts are with you all , if it's any consolation you've lost more than most will ever have. Central California Watching
So pleased that you and the family are well as that is what matters. Machinery can be replaced lives can’t. Hope the weather clears up for you over the next couple of weeks. Prays with you all. Keep up the great work!
I'm sorry, but the "Your golf clubs tipped over" just got me.
That was a tough one Zac. Hopefully you can still get some crops in the ground and find a new header by fall. It’s only stuff. The family is safe. That’s what matters.
I’m glad you all are all right. And I hope everything goes smoothly for planting and you can get all your stuff fixed and replaced
So glad you are all safe, thank God for our farmers!
Hopefully you’re in the fields soon!! Thank god you are all safe!
When that derecho came through here in SF, SD it was crazy. Like something out of a movie. Main thing is everyone is ok. Equipment can be replaced, wife, kids, pets can’t
Viewing the damage that first time was tough to watch. Can't imagine what all was going through your mind.......and the girls were absolutely terrified. So glad you all and everyone in the area is OK. Be praying for dry weather and a fast recovery. These are the craziest times in my lifetime for sure!!
So sorry this happened to you and your community. Thank God no one was hurt. We will be praying for you and your family and for better weather so you can get your crops in the ground. God Bless!
Mr. Johnson “doesn’t look good does it.” Understatement of the year that’s tough Zach really sorry that this happened to you your friends in Texas are here for y’all if you need anything praying that planting and the rest of the year go smoothly for your family keep the faith
Hey Zach, sorry to hear about the mess, hope y’all recover fast, me and the guy I farm with here in California we’re saying we thought we had it bad with the dry ground, but that’s nothing compared to what you’re dealing with. I’ve been praying for you and the farm! Hoping it all gets fixed up soon, I was very impressed with how calm you were through the whole thing, I would have been freaking out,
Praying for y'all, glad no-one got injured. Y'all take care.
So glad the family is safe Everything else can be worked out. Wild ride with the storms last week, the line went from Kansas to north of Winnipeg. Wishing you all the best and a quick turnaround.
When it gets stormy with you guys it really blows and goes wild!! I really hope you guys get sorted safely…with everything. We don’t have storms like you in Scotland. Best of luck 🏴
Wow! So sorry for your loss. I must say though, you guys are impressive! I hope your recovery goes well and you find many great stories to share 👍🏻 God Bless!
Man man man so sorry this happened to you guys! Hope this year turns around for you! Thoughts go out to all that are affected
Prayers for you, family and community. Glad your ok. Keep the faith!
Hi zack, I'm thinking of you all. thankfullly no one got hurt as that's the important thing, you guys will bounce back from this for now let's try to get some seed in the ground :)
@8:05 You did not need that. Hearing the disappointment in Zach's voice when he saw the shed and equipment broke my heart. I grieve with you and your family. Glad everyone is safe. Praying for dry warm weather so you can get your crop in the ground.
What I respect about you is that you are humble no matter what gets thrown at you. Thanks
Wow I’m so sorry, I really hope your doing okay after this. I’m glad your okay. You did a great job of staying calm throughout the situation.
I’m just glad you guys are all right! Equipment can be replaced, but still, it’s heartbreaking to watch the damage. I know Midwest will get you up and running in no time 💪
So sorry for all the damage! Glad everyone is ok! Such a bummer for all that where effected by that crazy storm! 😤
Man I’m sorry to see this. Thank you for sharing your guys life work with us. Truly heartbreaking.
I am thankful that you and your family are safe. My prayers go out to your family for a quick recovery. If I lived closer I'd offer my assisatants.
I'm so sorry this had to happen, I know this is going to be a huge impact on your lively hood. I definitely wish you and the whole family the best of luck and you have my prayers 🙏.
So sorry for all the damage, extremely glad everyone is ok. Love what you all do every day. Stay strong all the best.
Man, what a loss! I am farming too and everything is replaceable but that stress level in situations like that is unreal.....thinking through all problems and how to get everything running again in time for the crop year. I wish you truthly the best.
So, so sorry for your loss, but you were a rock with continuing to tape while you walked the destruction. Best of luck with your insurance and getting things fixed, especially your planter. The best thing: you and your lovely family are intact and safe. Prayers for you man!
I know that feeling of seeing damage the first time. I don’t know y’all but I love y’all and hope you get it rebuilt better than ever soon. So glad everyone is safe.
Wow, Truly amazing, when the weather wants to kick butt, Glad everyone is alright. Prayers for all the farmers to have a safe, productive season. Thank you for sharing.
My heart sank watching that 1st clip as you walked around the trees and first saw what happened, that 1st reaction was gut wrenching I'm so sorry for you all already a tough spring planting wise now that. But thankful as I'm sure you are that the grain bin just collapsed and didn't get blown into the main shed could have much worse. Prays for you guys hopefully that weather clears up and everything gets on track soon
so happy nobody got hurt. i teared up when Becky told you to get inside before we lose you too. my goodness that hit hard. so very happy nobody got hurt. thats incredible
I appreciate you taking the time to put this video together. The amount of composure you had is tremendous. I'm glad to see everyone is safe, the ground will always dry up, and equipment can always be replaced. Best wishes and I hope you can get the show on the road very soon.
Best wishes Zache, thank God yall are all okay, must've been scary. The destruction is immense but the soul of a farmers spirit is higher than ever.
That simply has to be the nicest Family in America. Everyone remained not only calm but maintained a cheerful attitude. Hoping the Family gets their Operation up and going soon. I am so grateful for our Farmers who work so hard to keep our Tables full. Thank you!
I’m glad you shared your emotions with us, the viewers. This medium of KZhead is an interesting one. Although none of us will likely ever meet, it is nice you share your human side with us. We see your strengths and struggles. You have a well rounded channel and our family loves watching your family. Good luck with the adjusters, it’s just another day in the life at the farm. We look forward to the update. And maybe a time lapse of you rebuilding. Always better than before. Glad y’all are safe.
Absolutely heartbreaking. It makes me sick to see so much damage. I can't imagine how you're feeling. I'll be praying for you all. Stay safe
My brother text me " saying go check mn farmer! He lost a silo and shed!" watched your guy's live stream and all the updates. And it still hit hard watching you guys live out that stress. So glad everyone is safe, and were able to go get some racing in! We have been watching your videos for years, are very very thankful you share your experiences!
Greg from northern Michigan. Sorry for your loss. Lived and worked in Waterloo IA for 39 years for the green tractor company. Your equipment took a beating but held up pretty well. Hopefully repair parts will be available to get you back on your feet again this year. We just went thru a smaller size EF2 tornado in Gaylord MI this past Friday. People up here have never seen the type of storm damage experienced in Iowa and Minnesota on a regular basis before. Take care and stay positive ...
Wow!!! I am so sorry. I'm just glad you and your family are safe.
Buildings and equipment can be replaced. Glad no one was hurt!! Sending prayers your way Zach and family!!
I've seen this for several days on your posts but this is the first time you put up the video, it brought tears to my eyes watching it. Just glad you guys are okay.
Very sorry for loss but the most important thing is everyone is safe. I really enjoy watching your videos.
With all the damage you guys took, the best part is you and your family are uninjured and were safe from that storm. Everything else can be replaced/ repaired. I was in Valley City, ND that day. Was supposed to leave the Loves truck stop about 6:30 that evening. Looked at the weather apps I have and decided to sit another two hours and am glad I did. There were two tractor trailers that were rolled into the median within 20 miles of each other. I would have also been rolled as I was empty. We've been getting some violent winds and storms this year. You all stay safe, I know some hard work is about to happen to clean up.
