My light goes out, i'm going home
Burning up my light burning up my light, but my lovely lantern never might... Hey, reimt sich ja sogar. :D
Bei dem Clip bin ich vor Lachen fast vom Stuhl gekippt.
"You probably have loved ones at home, right?" "I reject these allegations." This man singlehandedly confirmed the stereotype of germans being serious.
I think the translation didn't go well here. She says, freely translated, you must have a girlfriend at home or a boyfriend? That must have upset him, because she assumed he could be gay.
@@pgdeluxe3359I know, although doesn't "Liebste/r" also mean family? Like "deine Liebsten" means your partner, family and maybe even really good friends
@@cheydinal5401 In this case it's meant as loved one (female) or loved one (male), else she would have said "Sie haben Ihre Liebsten daheim" but she said "eine Liebste oder einen Liebsten" implying either a female loved one or a male loved one. And I guess he wasn't angry at the "einen Liebsten", but truly much rather angry by the way the journalist asked him this question. I guess he was too aware of journalists asking leading questions all the time, so when she asked him this, even though it seems silly he wanted to make sure to let her and us know that, that is not right to do.
@@cheydinal5401Yes, "Ihre Liebsten" means "your loved ones", exclusively. When referring to someone's significant other you'd use the singular. And that was what upset him.
The way he instantly went to the _"journalists manipulate and lie"_ schtick points towards a political subtext here. Thats a very common trope of german right-wingers. All right wingers, really. But the german ones are much more defensive about it that for example italians or brits. So I believe this was in some context of right winger event, and he instantly wanted to shut down any talk to the "Lügenpresse". That crowd very commonly refuses to talk to non-aligned media using such wording. I´v literally seen hundreds of journos trying to talk to such crowds at such events, and that reaction is really, really archetypical. Probably did not help that she included the possibility of him being gay. But the memetic setup smells of something more.
The very first clip had me laughing. That small "Entschuldigung" was so funny before the "Sie Wichser". And if my understanding of German is correct, he just went from informal (du) to formal (sie) because they're policemen, which is top tier mischievous behaviour
Exactly!
@@gameofpj3286 And then the policemen barreled through his front door again lmao I'm glad I wasn't wrong. I'm trying so hard to learn German haha
The insult "Wichser" (wanker) alone can be used without a personal pronoun, as was initially done here. This left it unclear whether an informal address was the case at all. Why the police officer reacts anyway is the fact that "Wichser" in itself is a significantly more serious insult than an additional informal address would be. The fact that the owner of the flat first apologizes, then repeats the insult with an emphatically formal address, as if its absence had been the main problem, is the real twist.
@@maximkretsch7134 And all of that because Germany does not have real free speech... sad
@@maximkretsch7134 This. And this is also why people think we Germany have no humor. This isn´t a funny pun or obvious joke, it´s a play on ous being notoriously formal, willful missunderstanding based on grammar, focussed into being as impolite and obnoxious as possible with just four words. Without context this is complety kryptic on why its one of the most hilarous things out there.

That's good to hear! What did you learn specifically? Also since i dont know how far along your german journey is, i just feel the need to say, some poeple in this video spoke very uh, unintelligible so dont make anyone here your role model 😂
@@justin_g6187 Oh yeah I only just started learning German. The only things I really know that are what German people actually _would_ say is "Hallo", "Ja/Nein", "Entschuldigung", "Gesundheit", and "Auf Wiedersehen". But since I'm a big nerd of tanks and WW2 history I also know a lot of names of German vehicles like all the different Panzerkampfwagen tanks, the planes, and a lot of other German military historical stuff from that era. I only recently got a book on actually learning German (it's DK Hugo's "German in 3 Months"), but I haven't really been studying all that much because I'm also studying Japanese, which I am much better at than German, considering I've been studying JP (as a side hobby) for about 5-6 years, so I can't really focus on learning both at once. I really love hearing German though, and would love to have a German friend on Discord or something to chat about the language every now and then!
I'm also seriously interested how that helped you :D
What other way is there?
Please embrace it! People learn from whatever we find engaging, entertaining, or useful, memes and games do a lot of the heavy lifting, why the heck no. :-)
Haven't seen it said yet, but the translations are sublime! Often its really hard to contextualize why something that was just said is so funny, but you 100% picked the best translation everytime
