"Rescue continued" to get Mindy out of the ice on Paradise Creek

Had to give up trying to reach her from our side of the Creek, so crossed over to come cross country on the other side...Happy ending to our mission, as I was able to reach her and she will be ok now...

  • A domestic goose fell asleep in the creek here and froze into thick ice and couldn't get loose when I was a little girl. My mom called the police, who used a metal rod to chop the ice in a circle around her legs, and then brought her to our garage with her legs and feet still in a circle of ice. When my dad got home, he got off as much ice as he could but said to let her thaw slowly because if there were sudden changes in temperature she could lose her feet. She thawed and was eating and walking and doing well. Eventually, a woman showed up who said she was her pet who'd escaped and she took her home. Be careful on that ice, Bob, and I hope you can safely get to her. Thanks for trying to help her!

  • Can you call wildlife to help get her to safety? Please don't put yourself in a dangerous situation then you will need rescuing too. You have a heart of gold Bob. Glad you were able to get Mindy.

  • This rescue is complicated, because you are alone. Mindy was trapped in the ice because she was there too long. And there is no other neighbor of yours who can help you get her out of there, maybe a DNR team could go there, I hope you can, but you will also get wet in such cold weather, you have to be careful, call someone to come by, but on a day like this, there shouldn't be many people passing by.
