  • "If you're veins are more blue, you have a cool undertone, and if they're greener you have more of a warm undertone. If you can't tell then you're more neutral."

  • As a black African woman, I have found that the only people who can REALLY appreciate and honour my skin tone are visual artists/painters. They know how to look at my skin tone and see its nuances and analyse what is unique about it. Literally, on EVERY single staff photo that has been taken at my workplace over the years, I am a shadow: no eyes, no mouth, no nose, no mouth...nobody really. Maybe it is because I'm the only black woman working there, maybe the photographer is just useless with light, maybe they just do the photo as a mindless ritual. Anyway, I'm glad I'm done with them and will be resigning in a couple of weeks.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this video. When I first started shooting and editing I had the most difficult time finding tutorials & tips for darker skin, which is what I was mostly capturing. Most of the time when I was searching I was just finding information on tanned white skin instead of rich black and brown skintones. It took months of trial and error to figure it out. This video is still super helpful and I'm so happy to see more of them coming up!!!

  • low light photography has always been my fall point. It is a weekness I am trying to overcome and so I thank you for sharing your expiriances with lighting techniques. I like that you took the time to talk about the cameras exposing for 11% gray and how that affects the subject. I was used to people answering in odd ways that I had trouble understanding when I went to school to learn photography. Man you even post preduction! I want to work with one someday on a photoshoot all the way througyh post.
