  • Firefighter here. If someone's recovered from choking, do not let them drink anything for 30 minutes. The throat is irritated and it could cause swelling. Give it 30 minutes before offering them a drink.

And let me tell you if somebody asked me if they may help me.... I would have been grateful and all but afterwards I would have been like did you seriously ask you me if you can help me? Whoever decided that that should be done has never choked the level of sheer panic is an indescribable and they are not never never never going to say no.

  • I do not normally comment but I wanted to bring something to the groups attention that happened to me tonight. I have a younger sister she is moderately autistic and has epileptic seizures. Tonight she was eating and she started convulsing when she did her food lodged fully in her throat and she stopped breathing. I had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on her while she was in mid seizure. I had got first aid certified years ago. In the moment I doubted if I could still remember what to do. I think part of it was instinct that helped guide my memory on what to do. I laid her on her left side and placed one fist on her belly button and rolled in up and placed the other one beside it and pushed in and up a few seconds later the food came dislodged and I was able to clean the food from her mouth as she began to cough. I wanted to share this because many do not experience what to do if the person chocking is having a seizure nor does training mention it. I hope this helps someone should they ever encounter a seizure patient chocking on food.

  • I had taken one CPR/first aid training course a few years ago for my job as a teacher. Literally the day before my certificate renewal about 2 years since I had gotten my certificate the first time my mother in law was choking on a sandwich and could not breathe. I remember seeing the look of horror on her face as she was holding her throat as I was sitting with my fiancé and his dad on the couch. I yelled “SHE’S CHOKING SHE’S CHOKING” and sprinted to her to do the Heimlich Maneuver out of instinct from what I learned. I firmly believe everyone, especially parents, should take a CPR/first aid course because you never know what could happen and it’s useful to know this information.

  • Choking isn't always a total blockage, sometimes the thing you're choking on, i choked on a tiny piece of meat, it got caught in my throat, when i took a breath, it went into my airway pipe, and my whole breathing airway wasn't blocked, but as i tried to breath, it was moving down in further. Your body reacts quickly without you. I kept trying to cough it out but I couldn't pull in enough air to build up pressure and then cough to dislodge it. But that didn't happen, i had a tiny bit of space between the food and airway but not enough to breath, and i was so afraid to breath in hard, it would go down deeper. Suddenly my body is making me heave and gag, i knew there was only a small amount of air left in my lungs, so when my body went to gag reflex i used that to push the air pit as hard as i could. And yes, thank you world, that tiny piece of meat flew to the other side of the my kitchen. Oh and not only a gag reflex i had vomited quite a lot. After the block was gone, i still kept gagging for a while after. My lungs hurt for about a day. But thankfully, no pneumonia, which can result from choking

No they are not going to continue that 18-day hike into nowhere.

  • My mother was choking on piece of garlic this morning I was really horrified from her screams and I started to panic trying to call 911. Never in my life witnessed anything like that. Luckily my sister helped her using this technique before I would call 911. My sister didn’t think she could actually do this but she did. Thank God she is here alive and well and my sister for her to be there in that moment. This video will help me if anyone is in need of help. Thank you.

    • Yeah; I concur; I had blocked airway with no-one around to do that ◘ I strongly disagree with instructors directions to summon official assistance if person is responding and consciously requests they do not get called; It has gotten so bad that I will tolerate a decedent event myself before calling them

  • I remember that happened to my then 2 year old son while eating a piece of bread. I was so scared, but instantly had to put that to the side. I picked his little body up, put his feet under my arm so I could hold him upside-down. I then hit him a couple times on his back, then (in that same position) I put my finger in his mouth bending it like a hook and making sure I didn't push anything else in while doing so, I took that piece of bread out. It felt like I put my own heart back into place!

    @ranjanbiswas3233@ranjanbiswas32334 жыл бұрын
    • Ranjan Biswas Because originally people would try to save someone and afterwards get sued if extra injuries came from the act of trying to save them. I mean now you have the “Good Samaritan” law that keeps you from some form of liability. Asking just covers your backside.

  • I never choked on food before, but one time, I swallowed too much water into the wrong pipe.. It was the most horrible feeling I've ever felt. I was gasping for air so bad after forcefully coughing out the water. I can't imagine having something SOLID completely blocking my airpipe.

    @sarscov9854@sarscov98542 жыл бұрын
    • @Sar cov. I too have never checked on food. I choked 5x while swolling my own saliva down wrong pipe. Gasping for air and nearly breathing sometimes I threw up then finally I begin to breath easier. My throat was sore. I could not talk for rest of the day. Each time I felt like I was going to die. Thank Jesus I survived.

  • A few minutes ago I was eating a hard lifesaver and I was laughing with my grandpa, I went in the dining room and I tried to breath and I couldn't, I screamed to the top of my lungs 3 times and both pieces flung out onto the floor because of my scream and I didn't turn red, I think. So my grandpa ran out of his room and asked what happened. I didn't know what to say so I just started crying and my grandpa looked on the floor to see the pieces, he threw them away and I couldn't fake burp it out :'D I COULD breath again though. I'm glad I'm a person who screams VERY loud, the scream was a lifesaver. the candy "lifesaver" is more of a "life-taker". I'm currently still clearing my throat, but I'm thankful for getting it out.
