I wish I could persuade you guys how exciting my project is. I am just an indie dev who had the same thought "why can't the metaverse just be a toolkit with regular software that anyone can use, for free?", but I can code a bit, so I made it. Working on open-sourcing it now, with tutorials etc. It's built with Unity, WebXR and the Internet Computer, which means self-hosting, so no AWS or other big tech to rely on, even after you deploy it. Your designs, your code, that's it. It's a framework for any enthusiast or company and, since you own the code, you can make sure it doesn't collect *any* of your personal data. I'm looking for beta-testers at the moment to help with the release. So much to do when you don't have millions to throw at it...
