Protip, pull forward back instead of side to side - thr korean street market guys seem to do that
have you thought of having a hook to put the candy around and then you have 2 hands free to pull? just a thought

I like how he didn't hide the fact that he made mistakes. Most KZhead chefs just cut out the parts they don't get right. Lol Makes me trust him more as s youtuber. He earned every last one of his likes
I try to show everyone the real process good or bad. Thanks!
Showing ever Professional Could do A Mistake too Noice 👌
Try not to be called "professional" in inefficient working process. It's a waste of time. Instead, try to change the process, so product gets better.
Florian Tolk You like that you should check out my buddy Kai, search ITKman. He’s an Asian fusion chef who doesn’t speak super good english but does cooking videos, completely unedited. They’ll feed your hungry and your love for raw, uncut, mistake making chef.
Exactly. Now people know using a harder plastic bowl comes with a disadvantage. Others would have hidden that fact.
Man the struggle was real! Thank you though, for including your struggles in the video.
I try to show that everything doesn't always go as planned.
No doubt truly entertaining.

People always cut it out to make it look easy
This is the first video on youtube where they actually show how the chef get struggled with his own works
I try to show the challenges as well as the successes.
Good job chef... 👍
not really
Actually not the first Putra
I said the same thing, I love !
I love that you show it all, errors and all. That way when I try I don't feel like a failure if I don't do it just perfect. The errors show us how to work around it and still have a great outcome. I'm so glad I found your channel.
Thank you. I try to let people know these things so they can not make the same mistakes I make.
I tried this and my sugar mixture got burnt
Thank you for the hard work on making dragon's beard candy and not cutting out how hard and difficult it is. I greatly appreciate that. I love your honesty!
Thanks so much for watching
I'm so glad you didn't hide the fact that it's not easy to do. I might of tried to make it. Looks good but not worth my frustration.
I try to show the real challenges so people know what they are getting into.
hey just wanted to say you seem so genuine and sweet :’) i noticed you liked AND replied to almost every comment- no matter what it said and that is so kind! earned yourself a subscriber dude
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am happy to have you as a subscriber.
Amazing work Chef! Love the fact you didn't cut n dry. You layed it all out on the table. Most chefs hide the struggle to make it seem simple. You earned a sub from me
Great Job buddy. I love dragon beard candy. This has been on my list to do since before we set off traveling.. just never got round to it. Well done mate
Thank Steve. I can't wait to see your version someday.
Someday, maybe never James.. The list grows ever long and out of reach LOL
Just watched a couple other video's about dragons beard candy and one lady experimenting with it said that she had to cook it less than the recipe said in order to keep it more flexible. And boy do those venders in asia make it look easy and fast. I guess practice makes perfect. Their sugar mixture looked a bit more flexible than what you had aswell. I hope to see you revisit this with different cooking times.
Thanks. Yes those vendors do make it look easy.
BadW01f 2 Ive made a lot of research on this candy and I was able to find more than 10 variations when it comes to ingredients, the most popular and easy to do(the one the asian venders usually use) was made with fermender honey as that it is more flexible, but I was also able to find some tips to make it easier like using a bit of oil at the start to make it smother to stretch
I think if he had started pulling the mixture when it was about 5 - 10 degrees warmer, that it would have been much easier.
I saw a thing on Pinterest that if you let it sit in donut molds it’s easy to start. But great tutorial:) can’t wait to try
this is the best he shows the real stress he is the saviour for me atleast😃
Thanks, I try to include the real struggles of making this
I love how he took the time and effort to show us how to make cotton candy
Thanks
I was sent here by, Xingcat, and glad he sent me. this was a lot of fun to watch. may have to try making this.
Awesome. I'm glad you checked out my channel. I hope you enjoy more of my videos. Xingcat is so cool.
great work.. it seems easy but really it is hard to make you made it perfectly
A true chef shows the struggles of baking/cooking😉❤️love your vids
😊 thank you
I never even thought it was possible to make it like this! Really cool, James! Also, point taken on the need to brush the side of the pot while boiling. I never would have thought of that!!
Thanks David. It is a great way to make cotton candy if you don't have a machine.
kzhead.info/sun/h7GlZpRobHarjJE/bejne.html
It’s a lot easier if you do it while it’s still warm, so check the temp every 10 mins or so for easier pulling
Good tip
nice this is pretty painful to watch though after seeing a south Korean guy do this whole process in under a minute though. he obviously did this all day long though lol.
Yes, I definitely need more practice to do it the way those guys do it
It's nice to see a video that shows people how they might do it in their own homes. No one is going to be churning out perfect dragon's beard candy like a Korean master who does it 200 times a day lol
Iian also the South Korean guy used hard aged honey in what looked to be flour or powdered sugar, corn starch
@@Siege_Viper did you guys watch the foodboy too? The korean street food it sounds like it. edit : i mean Foodieboy srry
@@Funfoods It seemed like part of the issue was in how you were pulling. You were pulling your arms apart, where the Korean buy was holding one side near his shoulder and pushing the other end away. That way the muscles you're using are the same you use for a bench press rather than a reverse fly. Pushing would be much easier and nowhere near as tiring.
So glad you have a nice bright cookie sheet.
This is hilarious 😂😂😂 love how he didn’t cut the parts out of him struggling. Makes it so real and relatable
I think I’m actually going to try this recipe. It looks simple enough, other KZhead channels make it look complicated, but I think this tutorial was pretty straightforward and easy to follow along. 👍👍
Let me know how it turns out.
I’ve seen this done with a special Honey on KZhead in Japan or somewhere.
I just got done watching that one and was sent here
Same thing as chico
It was a form of aged honey that had firmed up

Oh how I love cotton candy~
It's a fun way to make it.
FunFoods it looks fun! 😋
I need to try this! Looks like a lot of work but a good treat at the end
It is a lot of work but it really is fun to do.
Like everyone else, top job for actually keeping it real! I rarely like but I gave you one. You earned it!
Thank you
I can really appreciate his effort. Thanks!
Thanks
V respect your hard work.. after ur video I will try to make it... inshaAllah.... Thanks
that looks awesome! looks like kind of the same technique as when people make noodles
Yes, it is very similar to making noodles
I'm going to try this really soon! you made it look really fun and it looks really good :3
His face at 8:44 lol I've watched literally hundreds of baking and decorating videos and this one is the first to show how it really is. I think this guy is my spirit animal lol :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this. Thank you.
Watching this before i sleep and made me happy. Goodnight ❤️
You did it! Thank you!
Such an interesting technique, but I like to keep my arms functional, so I'll let the cotton candy machine do the work for me. :)
Lol, my arms are still a little soar.

I really love how this video actually shows how the chef struggled a lot of chefs just cut that part out. This is the first video of his that I have seen and it makes me wanna watch more
Amazing i never knew we could make cotton candy by hand
Looks like lots of work but looks amazing. I can only imagine the amount (time wise) of footage you had to take. very cool.
Yes, it was a lot of pulling and stretching. I had to fast forward through so much footage.
Cheeky Tam lots of work?.... God modern women are so lazy
Dirtie Mits ....Apparently it hadn't dawned on you, that because a woman doesn't have half the strength a man does, that YES, it WOULD be much harder. Doesn't have a damn thing to do with laziness. It tired HIM out...

Dirtie Mits ...lol bend over Mits, I think ya need spanked
I need to try this your much better at explaining than most people😂👍
Thanks. I hope you give this a try
You really love someone to do all this work for them.🥰💐
This is unbelievable. you're amazing!
Thank you! 😊
... I came to this video after seeing an video of an Korean doing this on a market ... they used way smaller pieces to do the Dragons Beard like max. 1cm in high (sry not familar with your messurment system ;) ).... I guess doing so would do u fine aswell, as it is way easyer and way more efficent do to so I guess
Thanks for watching my video. I just looked at that video and you are correct. It would probably be easier using a smaller amount. Next time I make it I will use a smaller amount.
Tobias Uchiha yes I seen that to cool I wanna try it
Reminds me of big league chew!
Yes, it looks a lot like that
thanks for sharing cotton candy yum!
Thanks for the video
I trust this guy other than people who cut out their mistakes. I love how this guy makes mistakes but just doesn't care. He doesn't even cut out mistakes! Now i have to visit the store for corn syrup cornstarch and a lot of other stuff... *CANDY*
I try to show people that it’s ok to make mistakes. Well all do.
@@Funfoods There are no mistakes, only happy accidents :)
This was so kewl to watch! Don't think I am strong enough to do it lol
That is why you have kids. Make them do the hard part. Lol
I don't think I am either...but I'm desperate for candy so I'm gonna try!
That looks so good. Your right it is like a big workout. You have to stretch it a lot. Great job. It turned out amazing. Keep doing your amazing work
Thank you so much 🤗
Love this!
I'm impressed. you made pink sugary spaghetti from that blob of goo.
when he couldn’t get it out, i felt that ✋
can you add flavorings, or might it affect the ability to pull n stretch?
Thank you
by looking at videos of dragon's beard candies i think the container for the starch is heated a little bit so the sugar doesnt harden and break
That's a possibility. Many people mentioned that the candy needs to be softer.
Just for the amount of work you put in it you deserve a👍. ❤️🏴
Thank you!
How hard ur hands could pain hats off to ur hard work

Thank you so much for showing me how to do this. I am gonna try is with the kids. bless big
Hi, James. Your cotton candy look simply delicious. What did you enjoy about making cotton candy? Have a good day, James.
Hi Byron. I enjoyed the challenge of making it but it was hard on the arms.
you let it cool down too much and you didn't stretch the first strand out enough
Good point. Next time I will have to not let it cool as much. Thanks.
D Sade -- not true..false on both..It has nothing to do w the cooling and also about the side of the first strand either..in fact..the strans are actualy Waaay bigher than they are supposed to be..if anything I think that, along w the heat.. Is what caused them to break
No, the way they break shows that it's too cool. If it was heat they would sort of melt/sag. The way they snap/break shows that the sugar mixture is too cooled
@@Funfoods a man that can acknowledge his errors and learn is wise
Hard work and well worth it looks really nice
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for joining me in my live stream too.
This is what i cal real chef video because he is not that kind of ched who cuts the fail part and even its hard he really show us how to make it
Thanks. I try to let people know that sometimes things don't go as planned.
Hey James, my arms are hunting just by looking your great Video 😂 But it looks really good and tasty😍 Maybe I try it to decorate a cake🤔😍 Have a nice day🖒👋
Hi Sandra. Thanks for watching. It was a workout on my arms for sure but the payoff was great.
this originally not cotton candy its a korean desert but i found it interesting that youve made it well done ahahaha
Thanks for watching.
Thank you !!!!!!! For showing us how it really is
You are welcome
great effort finally paid off...great vid👌
Thank you.
The strands looked thicker than the other ones I’ve seen
Yes, I could've folded it another time but my arms got really tired. Lol.
Pia Dooley way to thick..not as good
I commend you for that technique. Talk about an arm work-out!
Yes, my arms should be huge after that. Sadly they are not
I'm impressed! Yes, it's work, but it's amazing! Great job 👍👌👍
Perfect as always!😃👍
Thanks so much.
“two hundred and SIXTY NINE degrees fahrenheit”
James you need to add flavoring to this recipe...I have been making it for years and always add flavoring just like regular cotton candy is flavored.
T C --- where do u get your flavoring from ?
Actually, not all cotton candy is flavored but just colored. Example, if you are making regular candy apples (same sugar content but no vinegar), you just add food coloring at end. It's just a cooked sugar flavor.
@@stephaniedaigle5930 The best flavoring is probably Louran Oil extracts. You can often buy them at stores like Wal-Mart, but you can get them at the Louran website or Amazon. I've only tried cinnamon & cherry. Cinnamon was great. Cherry was terrible with a very cloying fake taste.
Almond would be delicious
I did this, I added blueberry flavoring and made it blue instead of pink, but somehow it turned purple..
I LOVE YOU DUDE #1 FAN!!!! BEEN HERE SINCE 2001
Definitely on my to do list! I love making crazy stuff like this lol! Great job on it!
Yes, it’s a fun recipe to try. Thanks
It looks like the baseball the super league baseball gum
Yes, it sure does
In indonesia it called “grandma hair” 😂
In greece too😂😂
In Israel too.
That’s amazing- how did it happen- hard work but incredible 👍😋
Love your honesty and genuineness in this :-)
Thank you
Isn't this the same ideal of dragons beard
It is. Hand Pulled cotton candy is called Dragon's Beard in different places but they are the same thing.
I think you're recreating the dragon candy from Japan. (Or was it Korea?) Anyway, maybe your strands are breaking because instead of using hardened honey, you created an alternative. I wonder where are hardened honeys sold at. 🤔
That might be a good explanation of why the strands broke.
It actually originated from China, but Japan and Korea have their own variations
Renee Louise Sanchez I think it has to do more with the cooking time and temp. Candy making is extremely hard to do because precision is kea. When it comes to molten sugar, the slightest temp change can mean a soft candy or a hard brittle one. The hotter it gets the harder the candy. And its also important not to stir the sugar at all when making dragons beard because that will cause crystallization and make it hard as well.
FunFoods --- it's the "Heat" ....you had the proper ingredients... You just let it boil a tad too long...but not by much since u were able to make a couple twists out of it... The trick is to remove it from the stove ***BEFORE*** it reaches 170° ...so like 167°-168° ...cuz even once u remove it it's still going to keep heating for a cpl minutes still... It's super important to not go "Over" 170° ... I have seen a loooot of these videos..and that has been the common denominator for each failed attempt...but usualy by the 3rd attempt.. They got it right! It has absolutely nothing to do w cooling because u can make those ahead of time and only pull them a day or two later...Also.. Adding more Cornstarch..a lot more when u twist...and your first circle was waaaay waaaay too big.... It should of needes to be half the size... ( it gets bigger as u keep twisting though ..but it's much easier to pull when the candy is the right temperature as well..a lot more soft)...For your first attempt though... U were super close! And lastly..you should twist it 15 times in total...that makes 16,000 individual strands ;) That"s the real dragon's beards count.. I have sent u another comment earlier but resending u this link tk a korean vendor so u can observe his technique ( again..keep in mind that once u get the candy at the right temperature..it"s a loot more malleable, ..it won"t be half as hard work as here..) ..I feel like I'm missing something... Temperature..15twists..more cornstarch...maybe not?..lol..( Oh I remember!! The size of your first ring! That's what it is! So I didnt miss anything lol) .Here's the Link!! It's the finest and cleanest dragon's beard I have ever seen!! Look at how much cornstarch he adds before twisting and notice how small his very first ring is too! ;) ..PLEASE Try it again and make another video!! ;) Would Looove to see it !! ;)

I'm just here scrolling thru ur vids to see which vids I have the ingredients for 😂
Lol
no offense but you're about 15 turns away from the proper size of dragon's beard.... its much thinner than this...
2^15 is 32000 aka double as many strands as it has to be..... dumbass...
Yeah its kinda bothering that hes not doing a perfect Dragons Beard but i mean this is not supposed to be dragons beard its just hand pulled cotton candy by a normal person. xD Those Japanese People are masters of their art i bet its super hard for any untrained dude
Did you see how bad he struggled to get that far? XD Poor thing would have collapsed or cried after 5 more turns 😂😂
I just love how everyone is yelling at this dude but you can clearly see he said no offense
I swear to god I have never laughed this hard In my life. ❤ thank you

Cool. It is a fun recipe to make.

Hahahaha I'll mess everything updated

Wow, you did a really good job! I would never have enough arm strength to stretch it.

If you kept going and made the strands thinner it would look awesome but still good job considering how hard that looks
Thanks. Yes, I could've folded it another time or two.
that looks way more harder then the japonese people doing it
They are very good at doing it.

@@tgrady2570 true my bad
I just stumbled upon this video while looking for some details. I recently tried to make some of this candy and had several fiascos. Every recipe or video I’ve seen says to mix the ingredients together and cook without stirring until it reaches 269F. When I tried that, I had sugar that either didn’t dissolve or recrystallized. So the second batch was stirred almost continuously. Will that ruin the end product? I did let the sugar cool to 212F before pouring it into my plastic molds. Once cooled it is too firm for me to work with it. What is the optimal temperature of the sugar when pulling it? I tried to put it in the microwave at 10 second intervals. After 40 total seconds, it was starting to soften; another 10 seconds and it was starting to melt to the point of being unusable. I really want to get this recipe to work.
AMAZING
Acturally ur making dragons bearded candy
Yes indeed.
This is hard to watch. If you watch the korean videos about making dragon's beard, you would see how easily it stretches out. I think your sugar mixture is too hard. You should not be putting that much effort stretching it out.
This is good enough for an untrained beginner. In ancient China this used to be the food of the emperor because there couldn't be a second candy master of the skill level to be found anywhere else. Nowadays we have corn syrup, cane sugar, and candy thermometer to help us we should expect some video to show people how to DIY a lesser version of it. And that's a good thing. While master-skilled artist makes legends, it's the dumbed-down version made in every family kitchen that ensures the dish to live on forever.
They use honey
But it's worth it
Love that smile
This looks delicious. Awesome recipe James.
Thank you so much Ethan!
