The RTX 3050 was a huge meme when it launched, but now that there’s a new 6GB version of the card, is there anyone who should actually buy it? Let’s benchmark it against other similarly priced cards and find out.

why is you a pookie
good video
When are you going to get your hands on the white GALAX GeForce RTX TM 3050 6GB LP
Playstation portal sold well and you were wrong saying it's garbage zach. Man up and make a I admit I was wrong about the ps portal video pc fanboy 😂😂😂
I'm not gonna lie, I feel like he missed the point of the 3050 when he bought the ITX size and not the LP.
Zach is so underrated, even if he has 580k, he deserves at least a few million...
most people only watch this kind of content when they are actively in the market to buy :(
Nah man, i don't want Zach to become a dickhead like Linus. Zach's good at his current position.
Thanks I appreciate it! We're working on it :)
@@tawsikabdullahwhat did Linus do to you
He needs a million cause only 4k out of 580k watch him
The 3050 6GB also comes in a LP form so we can fit it in a SFF Optiplex. Finally, Ray Tracing on an Optiplex!
If the 4060 lp didn’t exist it would have a purpose
@@Bolt451 The 4060 requires an external power as it consumes more then 75 w
@@chrisguo6964 you can just use a flex Psu for the upgrade it’s like 50 bucks
The 4060 wont work with the PSUs in many SFF PCs because it draws too much power @@Bolt451
@@Bolt451 It's almost double in price & it requires an extra power connector
Good for old prebuilts and small power supplies.
Agree tbh
@@ZachsTechTurfIt's certainly better than a RX 6400 that's X4. I really wonder why nobody is making X12 GPUs for a good balance of cost to performance?
@@Liminal.Headspaceik am super late but why not the 1660super instead?
@@elementaldragonslayer8512 Because it's about low profile, single slot, no external power, brand new cards. The 1660 super is neither one of those.
@@Liminal.Headspace oh alr mb I was comparing it only on the basis of performance price and power usage I guess mine is undervolted entire system rarely goes over 175 watts on 100% load
I'm thinking of using this in a DIY laptop, 70w power limit is extremely appealing since it simplifies power delivery dramatically and allows my to use a battery that is 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the one needed for a 6600 or 4060 based system.
^ Exactly, it's the most powerful GPU that doesn't need a power cable.
Another good point in favor of this card is the low profile and low noise opportunities it presents. Both Gigabyte and MSI make Low profile versions of this that are tiny. And Palit makes one with NO fans. Just passively cooled with a big heat sink. So neat
Zach's long forms are so good, as well as his shorts
Thanks :)
For someone who flips pc and has some office pc laying around, I’m happy for this release. Do wish it was like $150.
You almost get it, look at it's real competitor, the rx 6400 4gb
Rx 6600 and a580 slams it@@thetechrealist
@@gwramim4807 They need an extra power connector.

Office PC is probably PCIE 3.0 though... so you are getting even LESS performance there.
My nephew's gaming rig has a tuf rtx 3050 and my media PC has a strix rtx 3050 and have no complaints they game good while streaming
Not really here for recommendations (my current build is more than satisfying for my needs right now), only to see how the market evolves and what kind of moves the biggest GPU manufacturer is making these days. Thanks for covering these topics in such a detailed yet condensed way! You're one of the few content creators whose shorts are as interesting to watch as the long form videos.
That low power use is quite good, personally I love that and if its better than a 1060 i will be getting one unless i can get a 8gb one for the same price
A card that doesn't need external power? More of those is always good
Agree!
this is so true because you can literally get a ~$120 optiplex with a 6th gen i7 and slap in a RTX 3050 for ~$180 and have a $300 gaming pc (without taxes) no matter how you look at it, that is possibly the best price to performance of any (easily repeatable) gaming pc ever. It wasn't even that long ago that $300 would only get you a 4th gen and an RX 580
It's probably the best option in terms of new gpus, where I live. Alternatives at the same price are 6500XTs and A380s. Would've gone for used market, but lately it's been biting back painfully...
Very glad to see you use my exact office pc as an example, this card may not be special to the elite, but for the niche it is very appreciated
I seriously appreciate the coverage of this card. I am a big fan of low TDP cards that don't have a power connector. I think you should have compared it to other cards that don't need a power connector though. The list afaik is just the GTX 1650 and the GTX 1050 Ti. And I'm sure it trounces those two cards. And the 1650 is perplexingly very expensive now. I saw one for 450 online. I have an old steam machine that this is perfect for. Doesnt have a spare power connector and only has a 250W Power Supply. It has a 1050 Ti in it right now that I got off FB Marketplace.
I bought this GPU yesterday on backorder because I need the Nvenc encoders for video editing.
The only reason I can think of getting this card is to have access to Nvidia features for game design. Slotted alongside an arc a770 16GB to not break the bank. Having that access will benefit the Indy Dev and the Consumer.
I'm not up to speed. What are the Nvidia specific benefits for game dev?
here r the benefits Marmoset Toolbag 4.03 utilizes a new ray-tracing engine optimized for modern GPUs, including native hardware support for NVIDIA RTX devices. Additionally, RTX-accelerated AI denoising helps visualize materials with photorealistic lighting and shadows. Unreal Engine 4.27 includes Eye-Tracked Foveated Rendering, which mimics human eyesight by varying image resolution. This feature, combined with NVIDIA Variable Rate Shading, improves performance without sacrificing picture quality. Unity 2021.2 now natively supports NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). DLSS uses advanced AI rendering to enhance image quality while improving real-time performance, saving artists valuable time during game development. @@ZachsTechTurf
@ZachTechTurf just like blender and other 3d modeling software, game engines use cuda.
I have been using the Thermalright SI-100 as my cooler of choice and since I have heat sinks on my VRMs. The over-hanged portion the have is over my low-profile ram. Can't verify myself but, I am hoping there is some extra airflow over my ram.
Thanks for the recommendation going to pick this up as I have geforce 1030 GT and doesn't seem to cut most games I play.
Ztt did you know Corsair rolls out cases for motherboards with hidden connectors - 2500D/X and 6500D/X support MSI Project Zero and Asus BTF
I would have loved to see a comparison with other cards that also do not require external power for people that wants to build in Optiplex PCs for example
this is what i was thinking
Bro I just watched your old video I really like them a lot and the best thing I liked was your Intro ZTT, I wonder why you don't use it these day
This is gonna be a great “optiplex upgrade” type of card, but not really for anyone else
Optiplex upgrade is a huuuuge Market, just mostly for bargain hunters and people outside of the US.
I think it might be an ok choice for a dedicated streaming PC for people doing 2 PC set ups. Has access to NVidia Broadcast and it's features.

Completely agree
Really enjoy your content Zach. Just a friendly note - your mic audio is quite muffled compared to most other yt'ers. Hard to get intelligibility with noisy backgrounds.

hey Zach what do you think about a 200$ only performance gaming pc no asthetics
Pls make a vid on all the ryzen gpus with a proper elaboration on the 1440p parts and options . (I have 7500f / 7600 )(I could steal the 7600 from by sibling)
Do you ship globally, more specifically South Africa?
If you have both this gpu and an amd gpu (the amd for games, this one for encoding and rtx voice/tracking and encoding) could it be useful for streaming?
thnx for making a video about rtx 3050 6gb version !
Hey Zach I have a question I have a Lenovo laptop with ryzen 5 5000 series, an AMD Radeon graphics and Nvidia GeForce GTX, what kind of upgrades I could do to play the latest game like helldiverse 2 and where can I get them? PS love your channel and I would like to learn more from you.
Hey Zach can you do like recomended specs Helldivers 2 PC ? Same as you did with starfield or MW3 ? Thanks mate
Looks like a great budget card for older systems. Not everyone plays the newest games.
i personally dont see why you'd rather lose 20 - 30% performance for 20 dollars, i think its just like a waste to lose this much power just because of 20 dollars and loyalty to a company
@@scy4205 it doesn't require external power so it's great for low budget/low wattage builds and so ppl don't have to deal with the hassle of upgrading their power supply or just plugging the card in with an extra connector it's not a waste, you can't limit people to just buying one thing even if it is better to have, there's different gpus for different reasons
I'm thinking about buying gpu RTX 3050 or Intel Arc A580 to run Blender applications, casual content creator stuff. which do you think is better?
I used to run a power supply from around 2004 on my PC build - and I got the 1050 as a graphics card to complement it. It was OK. Then I decided I wanted more performance and so I swapped the power supply and put a used 1070 in there. Huge huge difference. I'm still using that 1070 but going to upgrade to the 4070 Super. Anyway the point is, if there is an opportunity to swap the power supply and stick in an older card from a higher series, that's usually better than constraining yourself to the *50 series. A 1070 still beats the pants off a 3050 and for cheaper (including the new power supply).
What should I prefer ryzen 5 7600x vs ryzen 7 5700x (I am getting ryzen 7 5700x $25 cheaper) for gaming and productivity with a rtx 4060 (suggestion for this also pls)
Would that 3050 card fit with an AMD FX-8350 CPU if you currently have a gtx 750 GPU?
I'm personally interested because Palit is releasing a passively cooled 3050 6gb which is going to be perfect for my itx 0 noise PC I'm building
Would be great for cheap very small itx from PC for like 3D moddeling and rendering. Yes, i know it is bad but watch out for the word 'cheap'. Better than laptops with integrated GPU as it would run quietly and u still get the benefitial ergonomics of PC while still keeping a lot of desk space.
can you look at the phanteks xt view pc case ?
Ebay is a bit more, but 1660/1660S/1660ti which are all almost the same card can easily be found 50-60$ pretty regularly on marketplace here. I feel like it's one of the best value cards out there, if not the best, because everyone either forgets it existed entirely or thinks it's part of 10 series. When it's essentially a 2060 without the RTX features. It's significantly cheaper than even a GT 710...
if its 150$ or cheaper im willing to wait for discount and buy it (im mainly gonna video edit and play minecraft / arc / pokemon using an emulator anyway)
Would be cool to see a comparison between this 6gb model and the rtx a2000
What is very attractive about this offering is the low profile variant be it a dual slot one for $189. But I have a Dell Optiplex small form factor rocking an i7 2600 and a GTX 1050 ti as my HTPC in my living room. How much performance will I gain with just replacing the current GTX 1050 ti and still keep the i7 2600? Considering upto i7 3xxx are the only SFF having the PCI-x 16 next to the CPU to accommodate dual slot low profile cards, anything else above, they've moved the slot to the right, so you can only use single slot low profile.
I've got 4 small case Optiplexs under my desk (and another small case waiting for me to do something with). For me, the real question is, which is the better bang for the buck - an RX600, RTX3050 6Gb, or an Arc380 -- all low profile, lower power. I've got an RX6400 that runs pretty good, even in the limited PCIe 3 motherboard - but it has NO video encoding ability at all. How do the others compare...
hey Zach, I have a question, I'm helping a friend to find pc parts for his pc. his main game is Fortnite, he also told me that he's planning to play on the performance mode in that game. He's on a budget and wants a cheap but good value graphics card that will work well on Fortnite. Now, I've heard that many people that play Fortnite on AMD cards expercience a lot of freezes and stutters. I don't know if this is fully true or that those people just messed up something, I also can't test it myself since i have an Nvidia system. So now I'm curious, did you ever experience crashes stutters or freezes on AMD cards while testing Fortnite?
Zach is it ok if you use a controller instead of keyboard and mouse on a pc?
No , it's illegal
is this a good upgrade from the gtx1650?
what about flippin friday really missing it though
Unrelated question when you made the 400$ dollar vemon pc, what screws did you use?
Actually maybe not so bad cos it doesn't need external power. I wanted an LP 4060 but it needs an additional 8 pin, so might settle for this for my vios slim case
any news abt the 6600m? been waiting for a review since ages bc i wanna buy it
Hi right now im trying to save up for a PC im choosing a ryzen 5 7600x and i dont know if i should get a Radeon 7800XT or a RTX 4070 and if i should change anything please tell me.
What's your favorite monitors at each resolution for gaming? 🤔
Hi Zach can u make vid of the 3090 graphics card and why they dont put it on the market ?
can i ask what is the best gpu for intel core i5 8500?
Would this be a good upgrade from my 1650 4gb ddr5? I have an hp pavilion so getting a new psu isn’t really an option right now, only reason I’m looking at this particular card is because I have a friend about to upgrade his gpu and he’s gonna give me the 3050.
None of these will require a power connector, that's why they cut it down. Should be a "3040" but for a low profile/no external power connector at 160 ish it's okay. I picked up a full 3050 for the same 160 used as i needed a single fan size card for my case and don't need a 4060/ti atm.
the LP version pretty much my best option for my hp elitedesk 800 g4, pcie gen 3 means no to the rx 6400 and no resizable bar means no a380, the a2000 is too expensive where i live (500eur)
lol yep. Confirmed by Zach @2:34
Would this graphics card work with pcie X 16 slot?
@2:14 HOORAY!! Now watch all those old office PC's suddenly disappear of FBMP and reappear in new cases with lots of lights and fans lol I think nVidia really filled a nice niche (see what I did there?) with this card.
Is the 750$ NZXT prebuilt a good deal?
Keep up the good work Zach love your videos 😊
Thanks for watching them :)
Where power consumption?
The brand new 3050 low profile 6gb is looking pretty awesome though... I want to build a mini ITX 5.6 liter mini PC with a lp 3050 and a ryzen 5 5500. The LP 3050 is 180 new off amazon rn which is wild considering no other LP GPU in that price range really comes close. And it's half the price of a LP 4060.
hey zach i wanted to build a gaming pc but in my country (oman) all the pc components r verry expensive. what should i do???

Zach, I'm desperate for opinions, what do you think about a 4070 super w/ a r7 7700x for content creation
sorry for the random unrelated comment but i have a question/looking for advice. i bought parts for a build a few years ago and just never got around to building it and now i think i want to sell them to fund another hobby of mine. what i need advice on is should i sell the parts individually or build the system and sell it? why im asking is because the cpu, gpu, mobo combo is second hand off ebay and older gen (1600af/rx580 8g), but everything else case, ram, psu, cooler, storage, and fans are all BRAND NEW UNOPENED STILL IN BOX parts that i bought from amazon and newegg around 2020. i dont know if it would help or hurt to build it. i thought about buying a better cpu and gpu (5600x/7700xt) costing around $500-$600 but if i were going to spend that much then id just buy what i was going to get for my other hobby and just keep my pc parts. lol
u saved my life, i was considering buying this because of the price...

I have i7 3770k and Gtx 1050 ti on my HP compaq pro 6300 i think the 3050 6GB will be worth for me

It would be great if you could make a shirt about it or give me a reply. Thanks in advance
hey zach i was wondering if its bad for a PC if u have a psu with way more wattage than u need bc I'm building my first budget RX 580 build and my dad has a lot of 750w PSUs from a old tech place he worked at and was wondering if it would be bad to use a psu with that amount of watts with such a low end pc
You'll just have extra power to work with, even if your system doesn't need it all its not bad and won't harm the system
I was gonna buy an rx 6600 some days ago, planned it and kept an eye out for offers then I ran into an rtx 3060 12gb for 190 dollars... seeing the rtx 3050 6gb for 190 dollars is pretty nuts
hey, do you think this would be good enough for light vr games at low quality? games like, beat saber, vrchat (on LOW), a township tale, and more? i dont care about graphics.
Yeah, I'm sure there's a ton of real estate agents who want to build budget custom rigs who would love to use this to show off bathroom renders.
This is gold, crucial knows!
Don't assume we are all here because we need a gpu, I just built my pc I'm only here because I'm curious
Same
Actually seems good for budget build 1080P gaming but the only issue is, as the same with 90% other Nvidia product is the price.. if only this cost 150 it would be a jazz of a deal

Zach, do you think the 3070ti is too powerful for a 5 5600 at 1080p (minecraft, roblox, fortnige, val, recording)
Hey Zach, I am flipping gaming pcs and just got a request for a workstation Pc that doesn’t need to do any gpu intense tasks. Now I was wondering what is better for a $800 budget: an am5 based System with either a cpu with integrated graphics or just a gpu like an RX 580 to get better cpu and ram, and to futureproof or… If I should build on am4 with a gpu while still focusing more on the cpu, for example an Ryzen 5 5600x and an RX 5600xt Really would appreciate help from you or the community, love your videos btw.
There is no future proof for pc dang it! Just buy the better overall system
I got to read up on this 📘
can a major graphics card company finally make a card that doesnt need an external psu but is actually somewhat comparable to other options? (not counting a niche like the ones the 3050 6gb has)
Think biggest benefit is no external power needed period as there many dirt cheap workstations out there and this make great alternative spending hardly anything to game on
Why didn’t nvidia make a 4050. I have one in my laptop and it would probably be similar if not better performance just with dlss and the other better features.
Do u have any recommendation for a 800€ pc for mainly rust does not have to look good just Performance
I think pc parts are cheap in EU. You can build my system for 800 I think. 5600x 32gb ram radeon 6800 or equivalent nvidia and intel parts. Am5 (or intels latest platform) gives more performance and I think you can get away with the latest parts for 800
That's all well and good, but the power draw numbers? Yeah, other cards are double the fps and will cost $100 in more electric. Rarely does the power cost get mentioned.
Power draw is half and no need for a psu. It helps in developing countries but for usa 30 dollars for a psu is a few hours wage but in India is it's 1/2 or 1/4 th of salary for people.
Hey Zack am wondering if you would help me, I bought a ryzen 5 4600g but I need to buy a gpu I was thinking if amd radon rx6600 is good for the cpu and most importantly how it will perform thank you Zack
Really appreciate giving the RTX 3050 6GB a fair shake. I think though something you missed out on is comparing the power consumption when gaming. According to TechPowerUp and in at least one game, the RTX 3050 consumes about 50% less power than the 6600 XT. Still very much a corner case but for folks living in areas where electricity is expensive, this NVIDIA option is simply unbeatable.
Zack what should i upgrade first i have a gtx 1050 AND ryzen 3 2600 AND im Getting 120 fps on fortnite but IT falls alot what do u reccomend
Check your drivers
depends on your budget but if you should upgrade your cpu first which you can upgrade to the 5700x3d without swapping motherboard and then upgrade to whatever gpu wont bottlekneck the cpu
For fortnite, it's a lot more cpu intensive so I'd upgrade that. Just make sure your motherboard supports 3-5000 series amd cpus
Get a 5700XT. And then upgrade your CPU to like a 5600
Hi Zach I have been watching your youtube shorts for some time and Im getting a job soon to make some money and I wanted to get more into pc gaming. Do you know any good pc building websites to use to make a pc? I'm looking for a ryzen 5 or 7 paired with one of the rtx 400 series or an AMD gpu which I don't know much about.
