  • Those old wheels are 27”. It was an odd size and I had trouble getting tires even 20 years ago. However the ones that I could find were 1-1/4” knobby tires which are quite similar to gravel ties now. So they were far ahead of their time. But it also means that a lot of those frames are kinda junk today as the brakes are set up for those wheels and it’s hard to even fit a new 700c set of wheels.

    @MattRogersdesigns@MattRogersdesigns2 ай бұрын
    • Yeah I’ve had a couple old 27” wheel frames. Surprisingly I could still buy new 27 tires last year (somewhat terrible hard “commuter” 27/1.25) but yeah that was probably very old stock. Most of them seem to work with 700c tires if you buy long reach brakes, and I had to drill out the brake mounting points to fit the recessed nut type brakes. After spreading the rear triangle from 126mm to 130 you can put new drivetrain stuff on it. Voila, dirt cheap road/urban/lock it up in a city bike.

The suspension is heavy and pointless like they mentioned, and the flat handle bars suck after about 70k but I’m happy that bike got a run around and even if now I’m looking to replace it with a gravel bike. I could never get rid of it

  • It is amazing to think that with all the frame and parts and accessory options, new or old or a combination of the two, each of us creates a bike unlike anyone else's and that's no disrespect to owners who chose to keep their high-dollar bikes stock and ready to rock. And thanks for this show, really fun to see what everyone is riding, tho' I do think if a bike is submitted with a love letter about it, at least two relationship points should be added to your judgment of its attributes and aesthetic. 😀

  • A dropper is not good for "getting the seat out of the way" it's better for getting the seat in a climbing position/flat straightaway position. If you lower the saddle but rest all your weight on it.....your center of gravity is at the seat. If you slightly lift off the Saddle , your main weight position is at the pedals for handling of the bike. I agree about that suspension, it doesn't do a lot and most times they weight about the same as a Rock Shox Boxxer. You would have more fun with the 200mm downhill fork :)
