Unpopular opinion - easily the best song in the entire musical
You spelled ‘fact’ wrong
no doubt.
No question
I agree!!!
Yes although it wasn't in the original stage production, it was added for the movie
Anyone else thinks this is the best part of the whole movie?
this and the ending yearbook sequence
Ironically this is the only song of the musical that isn't in the style of the '50s.
Yes.
NO!
It's the best song

It always made me wish there was an animated version :( Movie's still good though.
I want *SOMEBODY* to make an anime version of this! It would be something to see!

I love how the animals treat Sandy like a disney princess.
Judging by their expressions, they were there for something else.

Thank god I'm done with school
And start the day off nice & fine, we're going to play new ol favorite of mine 😃😃😃
R.I.P Olivia Newton-John. You were a true legend, both in this classic and life. Sandy would be proud of all you've accomplished in your later years, Olivia. Grease is still one of the best musicals ever produced. A true fighter to the end!
Rest in peace our forever Sandy ❤️🙏🏻 I came here to listen to all her grease songs as a way of saying goodbye to her ❤️

I was 24 years old when Grease was launched. Today at 67 years old, this tune still makes me feel great. Grease is still the word in 2022.
ABSOLUTELY.
My parents were in high school when it came out. Their first date was seeing this movie at the local drive-in. Such an iconic musical.
I was 16 then. Love it and I just saw it again. I am thinking of organizing a GREASE NIGHT if I can find a suitable place!

Thanks for sharing your story. Better times back then, and what a track to wake up to ???? I can't describe the "upbeat" tones in the song. GENIUS !!
I've been listening to this song since 1978 and it still gets me pumped up every single time like it is right now

Except possibly the opening to Superman :) But yes, I loved this opening, too.

Reservoir dogs?
Yes
The story is developed end of the 50's with a song with rhythm and sound of the end of the 70's.
Yet it works so well.
I was gonna say, it’s pretty amazing how this song sounds both 50s and 70s at the same time, and is brilliant to boot
Obviously .......
Nah the end of the 70s didn't sound like that
Fire Queen 80s Synth Girl what about disco? It’s kinda disco-y
Few cool facts about this song. It was written by Barry Gibb but he decided to have Frankie Valli sing it because he thought people were getting burnt out on his vocals after Saturday Night Fever and Frankie and Barry sing in the same range. Peter Frampton is playing guitar. Frankie Valli didn’t even have a record deal when he sang this. He signed with Warner’s and this song sold 8 million copies.
It does have that Bee Gees twist.. Right on for the tip.
Thank you for posting this info, patton303. I was about 8 years old when the movie was out. Was just about to start to googling 'cause i was SO sure in my (false) memory of this being a Bee Gees tune, lol !!

The greatest "opening credit " bit of all time. The animated , so beautifully edited and orchestrated.
I must disagree. Greatest opening credit ever was SUPERMAN (1978). GREASE is #2. I watched both movies with my parents in the cinema when they came out. I was only 6, and they were the first movies I ever watched. kzhead.info/sun/hc9qkbWwcJqKlH0/bejne.html

Man, someone in the animation department really hated Stockard Channing.

She wasn't very pretty to begin with.

I was dragged to this movie by my older sister In ‘78 when I was 7 and it has stayed with me since. Glad I was part of history of being able to see such a classic when it first came out and I can say, “I was there.”
My parents were 3 years old when the movie was released (although it was released about 3 months before my mother turned 3)
That's really funny my mother bought me this album Right after it was released and I was also 7 years old. Me and my friends used to dance around the house to it.
Nice to hear, I was born in June 78 and “you’re the one that I want” was no 1 in the Uk.
Haha coincidentally I was also 3 when it came out. The first I heard it was later when my cousins had the soundtrack on vinyl, and it gives me a lot of nostalgia still whenever I hear it.
my dad is 54, when he turned 13 at June 3, 1978. actually, he didn't watched it.
R.I.P Olivia Newton john...we will miss you 😢 😢 😢
I remember the first time I saw this movie. I went my gmas house and she was at the prom part, so I watched it from there till the end and then immediately watched it from the beginning. It's been my fav ever since!

2:36 In December 1977, Barry Gibb and his brothers, The Bee Gees, exploded to the top of the music scene with the soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever", 6 months later, Barry Gibb's song, "Grease" tops the charts, again. Gotta be the best back to back years for any recording artist writing songs for movies.
My favorite song from Grease I like Frankie Valli
Olivia, you are the heroine!
Everytime I hear this it brings back nostalgic feelings of the 80's here in London when I was a kid & life was free easy & always sunny, love this & the movie soo much
Early 80’s young teens feeling same edit ( American ) good days
This probably makes me sound REALLY old haha, but I actually saw this film at the drive-in with my family as a young child back in the late 70s when it was a new release. This opening song and title sequence is one of the most potent memories I have of that great period in time and it takes me straight back there. I remember playing on the drive in playground before the film started in my pyjamas. We then went to the candy bar for a choc top before settling in to the movie. I also saw Star Wars at the same drive in! Going to the movies was a big deal back then. At the cinema, there was always a short feature and then an interval before the main feature. Everyone clapped and cheered at the end of the film. This clapping stopped around the mid 80s when video stores became prominent.
@@GAVACHO5150 The movies were so magical to me when I was a kid in the 80s. So much has changed. Now people in the theaters don't even watch the movies, because they're obsessed with their phones, or they just talk through the film. It's so sad. It will never be the same.
