  • I like the format. The architecture render is great, but it also feels like a completely different scene compared to the original in my opinion. the forest scene is a massive improvement which conveys what the original tried to convey.

    • @@NastyCupid the way he changed the shot also changed the emotion being conveyed by the scene though. the revised piece felt very hollow and empty and not inviting like he was saying at all. even if you're altering something due to interior design opinions, you should also take into account the original mood of the shot and incorporate it into your revisions. Overall he missed a lot of key points that can make or break a professional piece.

    • well from your camera angle i wouldn't change much like he did. Your render looks great from above and is probably meant to be like it is because you wanted it from a drone perspective. @salty3567@salty356711 ай бұрын
    • @@salty3567 The camera angle and settings are just as critical to the story of a piece as any other aspect, and must therefore be very carefully considered. The camera in the first one may have been attempting a drone shot, but there's nothing about the context of the scene that would necessitate a drone shot. Apart from that, it's very weak compositionally when it comes to balance and lack of a focal point. The second isn't perfect, but shows a much better understanding of these principles, and story can much more easily be gleaned.

  • I feel the original version of the apartment had a lot more warm tones, and the top-view of the abandoned scene had a post-apocalyptic videogame vibe to it that I like. But I do agree with the changes to the car scene.

    @Badguy292@Badguy292 Жыл бұрын
  • For the second render, you changed it from a warm and welcoming, casual photo of a living room to a cold and detatched, industrial room instead. The first version, with the scattered books and macbook on the coffee table, the deep soft sofa, and occupied shelving unit made it feel real and homely. It felt warm and somewhere where you would feel comfortable collapsing after a long day of work. The second version felt cold and bright, and with the concrete floor and organised table, it felt like somewhere you might host an interview in a shirt and slacks. Instead of feeling like somewhere down to earth and the home of a middle class 20 year old female english teacher, it felt like a brutalistic take on a second house/apartment for a 30 year old male CEO or IT specialist. I'm personally not a fan, I thought the original version felt far more welcoming than the second. It didn't feel like a fix, but more you took the idea of the apartment-esque window and ran with it. Instead of changing that, I would've altered the original window to something with fewer, larger panes, with some frosting at the bottom, a dog's water and food bowls with some kibble on the floor, a slight camera rotate to the right like you did, but less so as to not get rid of the bookshelf from the frame. I would've possibly changed the concrete walls to something more inviting like an eggshell paint. Additionally, you could replace the concrete with the eggshell paint and put a green/blue floral wallpaper behind the TV.

    • So many clashing elements in the original render than just the windows. The industrial vibe of the ceilings just didnt mesh well with the rest of the scene. Only the lighting looked homely, everything else screamed apartment. He took the apartment idea and ran with it and it came out better than the original in my view.

The only thing that botherd me, is that you didn't fix the first two images, but made them entirely your own. Especially the first one is now completly different. I would love to see you fix renders without changing every Model in the scene, but by tricks with ligthing and composition of the image. Things like the "gunk" on the water or the lighting from the back in the third image were the real eye openers for me.

  • I think you'd have kept the spirit of the first image more if you had made it properly isometric, like I thought the original creator tried to achieve. In general what would add to these videos imho is more of an explanation from the creator about what they tried to achieve (like the forest render). This way you could help them achieve that goal better instead of just creating what you like yourself more. Just to make it a bit more specific. Very informative video nonetheless!

    • If he had chosen to keep the camera angle, he would have to put a lot more work on the entire scene, much more complex objects, probably a "mansion" house to show off the diff layers and geometry. With that simple scene that camera angle doesnt work. Maybe making the water tower higher and moving it to the camera position like its a person standing on top of it looking down but thats very tricky to do.

What I especially love about your approach of analyzing scenes and how they should be, why the reference photo is like it is: You‘re looking at the „physics“ or „mechanics“ behind it. In this case e. g. the competitive eco system 9:06. Same with your look at „how are donuts made“ in your famous donut tutorial. I think this is an excellent way of making renders more realistic. But: You have to understand whats happening, why things/scenes are how they are. Great work!

  • I actually quite like that you changed them a lot, sometimes as an artist it's easy to overcommit to one idea with fear of change or starting over. I think it's good and healthy to go step by step and change things around even if looks completely different at the end, and it's even cooler cause we get to see how someone else would approach it in a different way instead of just seeing the same image but slightly better just for the sake of seeing the same image but slightly better, if that makes sense. And all the changes were justified and had a purpose so I don't really agree with people complaining about this, it's cool to see a completely different perspective on something and teaches you way more and has more value overall

  • At frist I like the redesign! The new designs are much more appealing without question, but they are very different in feel from the original images - especially the apartment. So I would be interested to hear what the original artists think.

  • I don't like the changes made to architecture one, just changing the window panes and hdr would have given better results. There was no reasons to change the bricks design. The first one is a wallpaper that people use in interior, the one you used was litteraly an unplastered wall and the floor also didn't need to be changed

  • Great Format! But I felt like your "fixing" was too invasive to the original. There was some tips like the lake gunk or the moving background car breaking up the silhouette, or golden hour there were really helpful but the apartment for example was like completely different, you didn't fix it, you made ur own...

    @paultashkent5225@paultashkent5225 Жыл бұрын
  • Since the video is called "Fixing your renders", I'd have expected only fixing the rendering, not changing this many aspects of the shots. If the guy with the flat needs to have a 3d render of a real flat, your changes are completely useless to him... I feel you are changing waaaaay too much about these sceneries...

  • cool but i don't like what you did with the first two. specially the first one. it had a pretty unique thing going on and you made it generic and uninteresting. You should have leaned into the concept and made it into a tilt-shift photo. it would've looked much cooler, unique and interesting. the second one you changed so much that it's not even remotely the same scene or even concept. plus i like how the original looked way better, both from visuals and from design.
