  • The craziest part about this is that Mobile Suits were explicitly referred to as only possible through Minovksy physics. The fact that people essentially are trying to brute force their way into making something that’s supposed to be *physically impossible* is inspiring.

  • The biggest issue with a Gundam is it's weight. For a servo to move fast enough to be effect for combat it would need to be made of a something that could withstand the force of moving several thousand tons in seconds. All the metals and alloys we have at our disposal right now would snap under the weight. It's a beautiful dream; and great men make dreams reality; so keep it up Japan.

  • The fact it can move *peroid* is austonding. The sheer mass and stress on the joints to make it even move slowly has to be astronomical. As a Gundam fan. This is just mind blowing. Almost unbelievable. Give it fifty years. Hundred tops and we may have something near indistinguishable from the anime minus the beam weaponry. (Granted this *moving* in universe was thanks to Minovsky particles. But it even has its own formulations and math behind it so who knows maybe there is a real equivalent. But the idea we can make a beam rifle or even a beam saber by using an I Field to contain and shape the energy density and maintain it I don't see happening. Maybe the beam saber with electromagnetic fields?) But now i.must enter space and spend time up there. If this is possible then I must free my soul of gravity.

The RX-75 is probably one of the few kinds of mecha that could actually work in the real world. Maybe an OZ-08MMS Cancer since water would support it's weight easier. Both would still be highly impractical.

  • I didn't read all the comments so I am not sure if anyone pointed this out, but just so you don't get too excited, the whole mass is supported by the moving structure behind it. This is actually just a front to the very large structure which moves it back and forth. If you look closely, you see it moving behind the "robot". The movements are interesting and quite a few actuators and nice mechanisms are involved, but apparently they don't actually do anything with bearing the whole weight of the robot or keeping it's balance. Remember, balancing a giant robot like this requires a hell lot more of additional mechanisms and a huge amount of energy. You would need a 90 litre engine to move this. So they simply (and un-necessarily expensively!) built a lifting structure that also moves back and forth, built a robot shell in front of it, added moving hands and feet that immitate walking/raising, and the whole heavy lifting is done by the support structure. Nothing fancier than a couple of cranes attached to a torso. For those who didn't notice this, sorry to burst your bubble. More importantly, even a fully operational unit of such thing would have no use in real world, not even in a war. A bunch of tanks and planes would be much more effective and much less expensive.
