KFC Malaysia has suspended operations of numerous outlets, citing challenging economic conditions. The closures came amid reports of boycotts of the business over its perceived links to Israel, with local media reporting over 100 outlets had closed. Employees from affected stores were offered relocation to stores with higher customer engagement. Other American brands have been targeted in Malaysia over US support of Israel’s war on Gaza.

Boycott has been happening for several years already due to the quality of food and services getting worse. Price also increased terribly. And yes, the recent Gaza incident made it much worse.
Sure thing but it has increased significantly with the genocide in Palestine so it this case they temporarily closed it because of that and not because of food/service getting worse.

not really. There are still many fast food options and the local 'mamak' food is definitely not healthier.
There are much more healthier people in Singapore compared to Malaysia. The reason being, most Malay food are oily and contains more carbohydrates.

I think the major reason why KFC chose to close is the quality of their food has really declined. I mean compare KFC with other fastfood chains., KFC todays is not the same as KFC of say 10-15yrs ago

Kfc still taste better here in my country. However, mcd & AW food quality has been declined. The best thing about mcd & AW in my country is only their ice cream.

Yes the chicken is getting smaller and if ordered by delivery, usually the restaurant staffs are so reluctant to provide the drumstick part of the chicken, even if requested in the order.

one of the reasons is the declining of quality that doesn't match with the current price. also due to the current economy situation, people are more selective on what they want to eat while maintaining their budget to sustain until the next paycheck. Then, kfc need to aware that they are many competitors nowadays that offer better fried chickens with better quality and prices.
As a neighbouring ASEAN citizen, I am happy for the Malaysians. Local food tastes better anyway!

As a Malaysian, this boycott isn't solely about Palestine conflict but also over the declining quality of KFC Malaysia's product. We're unsatisfied with the "quail-size" chicken, expensive price, and low effort at making their food (I mean, it is typical for a fast food restaurant but boy KFC managed to make it even worse). It's just sad that our KFC has turned into the American KFC.
True. I can buy 4 packs of nasi lemak AND 3 big chunks of fried chicken at a local Malay food stall for the price of two pieces of KFC fried chicken alone.

Let's not forget about the fact that KFC or Starbucks are expensive for that little. Plus the Malaysian ringgit is weakening day by day, MYR is at its Lowest since the financial crisis. So not a lot of Malaysian want to spend on those things
True... From Philippines here. Malaysia was one of my favorite destination before but when I went back last year... oh my prices so expensive. Cant find anything below 10 ringgit a meal even at Mamak store.

I started to avoid eating all of the fastfood chains in Malaysia since I noticed McD's price spiked very early, even before Covid if I remember correctly. The last meal I tried in McD is the Nasi Lemak McD with the Spicy Chicken. It's okay, but not worth the price if eaten too often. Just support local business is fine.

I don't think its because of the boycott. Kfc is just using this issue as an excuse to close. The only 2 brand i often heard being boycotted is Starbucks and Mcd. I think people are buying less because of the high price and more competition. In my area there are chicking, jollibee and richeese open one after another.
I don't know about other area.. In my small town here... bagan serai where there is one kfc outlet..we Boycott kfc because of Israel.... Bagan serai is Muslim majority town. In kamunting also they close one outlet, kamunting also Muslim majority area.. But all outlets in taiping still open.. Taiping is Chinese majority area

Their share had been down rapidly since the boycott..if its simply because of bad services and price it would had happened sooner .. the price had been increasing for a few years..yet people would complaint and at the same time would still buying.. but since the boycott movement happened we can really see the impact..the power of the customer..it is time to support healthy local bussiness..do not underestimate the BDS

As a Malaysian, I can assure you, it's not the boycotts. Food quality is down the trenches, high price, smaller chicken, so much better options out there. Blaming it on a boycott is convenient.

Thier downfall is mainly due to thier product quality. They can’t even maintain thier main dish which is the fried chicken. Not to mention the sizes getting smaller while price going up. Might as well just close all branch. Management and staff been pretty unprofessional for decades.

It is suggested that the company rebrand to better reflect its current offerings. A name such as Kentucky Fried Bird may be more appropriate and reflective of the company's products.
We did not boycott KFC due to the Israel issue. We reject KFC because the quality declined too badly. They fried chicken sizes is half of other brands fried chicken sizes and it also taste very dry. Another factor is the economy factor, nowadays it's been a tough journey for majority of Malaysian as the cost of living has increased too much, thus most of Malaysian prefer local cheaper option for foods.

The boycott in Malaysia happened for a long time way before the Palestinian war with israel. Its becahse of KFC scamming and deceiving customers. Especially rhe increase in price and the portions of chicken are extremely small, its like eating a thin layer of meat with giant bones. It took me 4 bites only to finish a chicken breast. The services there are terrible too. KFC being boycott by all races in Malaysia as everyone shared similar experiences. While McDonald's suffered only the Muslim side of Boycott, they serve decent portions of food and having quite a lot of offers. I still go McDonald's to eat occasionally, its nice when many customers are gone and the offers kept flowing in. Normally there are many who pretended to boycott but secretly eats McDonald's.

I don't understand why Chinese Malaysians are so against BDS movements. BDS is going on not just in Malaysia but even in the west. The US is having an extremely large college pro palestine rally right now. I mean who in their right mind would support a company that directly gives money to a country that is committing genocide? Most of these Chinese Malaysian are Muslim hater. They are known to be anti Muslim especially toward Malay Muslim in silence ( they did not show it in public ) There even a conspiracy to change the nation official religion from Islam to Christian by a whistleblower reported by a newspaper. That whistleblower even make a police report about it. Malaysia looks calm on the outside, but actually it is chaotic and always racial and religious tension on the inside. This is what the British Empire did to Malay Peninsular by putting lots of immigrants of Chinese and Indian in the peninsular to create a non stop tension and conflict. FYI, Malay Peninsular had been in war with 3 western powers ( Portugal, Dutch, British ) since 1511 until complete defeat by early 1900. They even tried to convert the Malay to Christianity but failed after hundreds of years. That's explain the massive influx of Chinese and Indian immigrants in the peninsular. The British Empire won't allow for a reemergence of Malay Muslim economic power of Sultanate of Malacca.

Its actually closing not because of boycott. This boycott happened only affect around 10%. Whats more accurate is because of food quality of KFC is declining and getting more expensive. If not because of boycott, kfc still losing its customer
It's just sad for those KFC Malaysia employees, they did nothing wrong and will be laid off. Finding work nowadays is not easy.
similarly can also be said for the women and children in Gaza too. they did nothing wrong but end up losing their lives and limbs. finding food, water, medical aid or even a safe place to sleep in Gaza these days is not easy either.

KFC over the years in Malaysia has not really up their service , as well as speed of service , an emergence of Texas Church Chicken , hampered them along with Boycott… they are temporarily suspending business at certain areas in Malaysia … same goes to Pizza hut , another partner of them
i live near to 2 KFC branch,for decades every night people line up to buy until 11.30 night...but last 5 months....kfc from the morning till the evening, only 1-2 chinese goes to buy at a time, plus night time closes at 9.00pm.

Like, I don't understand why junkfood is popular in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, etc., where their local food is not only better but also cheaper.
Boycott aside, KFC is competing in tougher f&b industry in the country. In less than a decade, I've seen so many new fast food/intnl food chains across the country. The quality of the food and overall service have been deteriorating over the last decade...dont know why I should go there again
