    • @@Luchon20082010 i did too, since 2005, and yet we both have pretty much diffenrent opinions... Well i am not saying it was a bad match, nope, rog played wery well, but if u saw the whole match, it was an pretty average encounter with some yeah amazing shots. But that doesnt have to mean it was one of his best matches of all time. I saw the match at least 3times the whole match, i enjoyed it since if am not mistaken it was last GS match between these two that federer won in straight sets... But on a defense of Djokobitch at that time he had only 1gs and his peak has had yet to come...Still wimbledon 2003 vs Roddick or 2005 US vs Nalbandian, 2011 vs Djokovic, 2009 AO vs JMDP, US 2004 vs Hewitt, And even AO 17 vs Rafa, (Atp finals 2006 vs Blake not an GS), were all much better performances than this..

    • Yeah, 3 years later, but you have to watch the Wimby's final 2015, the medical timeout tactical. Federer clutched the fourth set and in his momentum in the fifth, OMG DJO BROKE HIS ANKLE, medical timeout please, 75 minutes later, -ah, it's nothing, let's play. Result→ no more Federer's momentum and Djo wins.

    • His movement was still great as he got older but his movement to the forehand side is where he slowed down. It's evident when watching these old clips. There are running forehands he hits here that he just could not hit throughout the 2010's. Got to give credit to Djokovic, he maintained his speed better than Federer and Nadal. His training tools are definitely more advanced. He spares no expense in taking care of his body, whereas Federer has always been more old school, didn't believe in all the fancy new technology.

    • Alexander Federer's era continued , making 6 consecutive GS finals from USO 2008 till AO 2010, winning 4 of them and regaining no1 ranking.He started to decline after 2010, loosing to players not called Nadal and Djokovic.It is normal because he maintained a very high level between 2004 and early 2010, practically in his prime and that is already astounding.Every player declines.Djokovic started declining at about the same age, Nadal when he was even younger.

    • I'm not that kind of "fan" that tries to defend his hero even in absurd ways, but sometimes I think that Federer's H2H with Nadal and Djokovic is "penalized" by his incredible continuity over the years. He reached the deep stages of many tournaments, even when not in the best form or when very old. I'm not saying that every time he lost to them was because he was either in bad form or old. I simply think that this happened to him more times than to Nadal or Djokovic.

  • This match is under-appreciated. This was the best match of 2009, and one of the best matches in tennis history. The shot-making here is of the highest quality. This is post-peak Federer at the end of his prime years (28) vs Prime-Nole entering his peak. Quite simply: the best attacking tennis vs the best defensive tennis the world has ever seen. Djokovic's domination in 2011-2016 is a much a result of his talent and hard-work as it is a response to Federer. You see Djokovic not only return Federer's 1st serves here, but attack them. Forcing Fed to use his imagination creating in-out forehand angles, drop-shots, passing shots, net-rushing, over-heads... it's freaking beautiful. Only for Fed to lose to Delpo in the finals. :-)

  • one of federer's best matches. in 2017, after he won no.18 people say his backhand is better than ever. I don't think federer's 2017 backhand is better than this version. most important thing is, federer's forehand is not as good as his forehand in this match. cannot believe it's 8 years now. how time flies. thank God, federer now has 18 slam titles.

    @rzhangyu@rzhangyu7 жыл бұрын
    • FH definitely was more aggressive back then but then again he had all the confidence in the world. I feel he is a lot more humble now and that probably translates to how he plays nowadays. Nevertheless, his 2017 backhand is way better than this(technique-wise) and also the way he is stepping in the court is beautiful to watch.
