PS - I'm aware no pause is needed between the wake word and command, but she still takes time to compute that request before you can ask a second request, and even then, sometimes you can reel of an entire request immediately after saying a wake word, but didnt realise that she didn't even hear the wake word in the first place. 😂 #mostannoyingthings
I wish they had a wood grain one to match interior design.
That would look much better in the house! 👌
Shame I've stolen it and you're never going to see it again.
😭😭😭😭
Lol
Does the camera even work with your shiny head? looking forward to your review bud, good vibes only ;)
@@carlcahill2628 Re. Shiny head. Is that Stu or Paul?
@@sy2see lol
Paul about to nick the Echo Show ..... muahahahahaha ... that outro is epic :)
An excellent review! Yes, initially the wake word was a novelty for me, since this is my first Alexa device. However, after a while, saying Alexa becomes tedious. I too would have liked the camera to have been placed in the centre, and I agree with all your other comments too. On the whole, however, I'm very pleased with the Echo Show.
Love the end :) Thanks Stu, couldn't agree with you more.
Bloody thief he is! 😂 and glad we are on the same page!
Great review, I have one on the way so looking forward to the fun
I like the presence setting. Like when your hubby wakes up at 3am, and walks into the kitchen, it will detect him and the program will remember the schedule we've set, and it automatically turns on the kitchen lights and plays gospel music for him to him started for the day.
Is this also a feature of the Show 8?
Great review. What I reckon will come next is this will become a docking station and you will be able to use the 10.1 screen as a portable tablet.
Looks a bit like a terminal I'd expect to see in one of those places we used to have, called high street banks. In years gone by they'd be dotted around for customers to have a play around with, chances are now this is going to sitting where Maureen used to sit and its beady eye will follow you around the branch. All you wanted to do was to order a new cash card and get a handful of coin bags for your whiskey bottle full of change but you've now been 'Bezoed' and your personal details uploaded to an EC2 instance based just inside the Arctic Circle. Welcome to the future.
If you get a second Amazon device - when you say Alexa how do you get only one of them to respond? For example having one device upstairs and one downstairs
I just got mine in the mail about two-three days ago… I absolutely LOVE this device!!!!!! I am absolutely FASCINATED with modern technology… I would definitely recommend this device for anyone at all
Why would you recommend?
After 8min i noticed that beautiful bottle in the middle of your shelf and i was like :"yep, this gentleman knows what is a good Scotch" Lagavulin, my all time favourite, i often refer to it as the smokey bastard☺
It’s my favourite also! 💪🥃
What a very interesting review ....one of the best of any product....and yes I agree re the wake word
My first show 10 didn't need a wake word, it just used to do its own thing....... any time of day or night. When I checked to see if I'd accidentally used the A word, nil, nothing, nada....... So it went packing back to Amazon. The replacement however is much more user friendly. I agree with you on the 'wake word', problem would be, how to enable it to follow you constantly and then recognise that you are actually looking at it... that would be some serious sci-fi stuff. I agree with what you say about the aesthetics though, it's about right for the price, and that means..... Echo show .. 11... 12...13....14....15 and so on.
Would you recommend this over the studio? With the current trade in deal I could get this for £64 or the Studio for £40.
Aside from my personal dim view of this item. You are by far the best tech channel in the UK. The whole rustic, witty feel of the channel is blighty gold!
Cheers for the kind words Kris... and I've seen your other comment too, and I agree, but don't you think my theory at least lends an explanation to why they've done it?
@@StusReviewsUK thanks For reply Stu! yes you are right, begs the question what on earth they come up with next.
No idea, but if it turns out like anything I predict, then I’m excited!
@@StusReviewsUK me too!
Great review. More importantly though, your single malts seem a little on the thin side.
After u use it for a few times it’ll give u the option to by pass the wake word so then just use the command
Nice Review. interesting Information.
I think a saw right said fred at the end:)))) lol
Great video. Your point on the annoyance of the wake word is so true. The only problem is I hadn't realised how much of pain it was till you've highlighted it lol. I'd drop £300 for a Pro version.
It’s one of those ‘you can’t un-see it’ things... now you know it’s annoying, it will forever be so! #sorry
I don't find it annoying at all. The only thing I find annoying is being limited to 4 possibilities
Great review made me buy one
Amazon has this weird notion, that they just don't want us to have it all. We are not getting the Echo Dot Kids Edition, we don't get the parental control panel, we don't get the Echo Glow, we don't get the echo show wall clock, Disney Edition. They even don't have the normal Echo Wall Clock in stock in the UK store anymore. They also deprive us of a stack of Echo Flex modules, like the combined nightlight/motion sensor and the clock, that's available in the US. I originally thought, it might be due to lack of CE certification, but some of the stuff can't even be explained with that.
I know... annoying as hell! I’d love to try out the glasses and ring!
@@StusReviewsUK i use a service in the US called amforward to forward parcel from there. The only issue is, if the glasses or ring depend on an US account, like the Echo Glow Light does. That would be a bummer. The Echo Dot Kids Edition, that we got for our kids room, worked just fine as normal dots .... just having no access to the parental portal features.
Amazon can't keep the flex and attachments in stock for the USA either. I had to get mine at a Best Buy store.
I like the idea but I certainly won't be getting one. My echo sits in the hall and can hear its wake word from almost anywhere in the house due to its paper thin walls. I suspect most UK homes don't have a island worktop in their kitchen and this is where I see this working well. In America calling mom while doing all the chores around the worktop (and living the "America dream") it'll be amazing. IN the UK where we tend to move about more and move to different rooms the "follow me" functionality will just end causing the screen tosmacking the wall. Now if it came in a fully working drone... That I WOULD buy! Great review!
does this rotate a full 360??
I'm thinking about getting one to replace the Echo 2nd gen and Fire HD 8 Plus with wireless charging dock due to my cats. They like to push them off my counter top. I will move the 8 plus with the wireless dock to my bedroom. Not sure what to do with the old Echo. I want the premium sound and a heavier and more durable smart speaker. My old echo has been having problems hearing my voice commands lately. I think I've got it! I'll move the Chromebook to the counter and set the Echo Show 10 3rd Gen on the dining room table. It's round an black and I've drilled a hole in the center for chargers and AC adapters.
Great review. My only comment would be if the speaker did not have a wake word, how would it know that I was talking to it. Even the television would be having it do stuff. It's bad enough watching video content that use the wake word.
I bought this for drop ins but with this newest version you have to get an OTP code to verify your number...that they have..I have straight talk can't get those & they can't help me get past this challenge. Some phone providers don't offer an option to get the code to verify your number even though they have it...😵😪
I used Alexa Guard for a few weeks last year and had to disable it. Unfortunately UK homes tend to be build closer together than US ones and I think the number of false activations, due to neighbouring properties, may be the reason that Amazon has removed this from the UK / European market.
That’s a great point Martin!
Thanks for this, very interesting, but sound boomer than usual, I feel, perhaps balance as very sibilant and brassy at the same time. Perhaps it was an echo joke?
I both same one from marketplace work 4 days very fine after 4 day sad " We can't find your amazon account " :-((
My Alexa is very hard headed. She does her own thing and don’t listen 😂 to me. I’m going to start charging her rent being she’s her own person 😂
My echo dot is like that 😂
Nice review, Stu. I won't get one for the same reasons, the main one being nowhere to put it. Also, I have Google screens everywhere. BTW, do you know Paul H.?
You might want to watch until the very very end... that will answer your question about Paul 😉
@@StusReviewsUK I was wondering. Both of you seem to have the same mains plugs.
I love it the sound is amazing great base
Absolutely!
I got one from a friend , he got it stolen. I used it one day, set up everything after that the device can’t recognize the account. Any idea what is gonna happen?
Think it looks pretty cool, though a tad like the old iMac, it’s just that screen, the bezels are far too big at a time everyone else is shrinking theirs plus the top bezel being bigger than the bottom bezel is unnecessarily annoying. As it is all said and done a screen based echo, think they’ve missed a trick. The motor would not be enough for me to upgrade.
But... is my theory right?
I love the design!
Hi Stu. It is really strange that Alexa guard is still not available in the UK. It’s been available in South Africa since they launched it. I’ve been using it for as long as probably 3 years or so.
Has it! That does seem odd. I’d imagine it has something to do with GDPR and regulations. I know a few 3rd party security camera software don’t do things like store recordings in the cloud because of regulations. (Reolink).
Sincere question, do people actually pause between saying the week we’re done the command? I have always just rattled it off all at once.
I do, mostly to ensure that she’s heard me say the wake word. I hate it when I reel off a command and she hasn’t heard my say ‘alexa’, but I do appreciate you can ask the command with the wake word (hasn’t always been that way).
Mmm I really want to like it but I can't. I have the same problem you have: a rustic house so it won't look good anywhere. On the other side, I do like the Google Nest Hub Max much more. It doesn't look too futuristic and it looks good at a corner in the kitchen, with a very wide view of it: no movement needed actually.
May be posible in Bangkadesh.
I have one and I love it
I would assume [Bleep] Guard was removed in the UK due to privacy laws.
In the intro when the show turns to face the camera I got chills. Lol. No thanks for me. Great video however.
This could spell not just the end of the 'Alexa' wake word, but with face recognition it could allow one device to manage ToDo Lists, Calendars, Alarms, Reminders, etc for all members of your household. This would make it simple for private personal information to be kept private and for users to place Amazon orders using their own recognised account. Parental control and privacy would be based on facial and/or voice recognition and passwords no longer required. Your Alexa personal assistant could get to know you better and adapt its behaviour accordingly.
👁👄👁 the future is here
I wish they had a wood grain one.
Definitely a Marmite item and I'm on the 'don't like' side of the fence. I think it looks ugly. Personally, I think it would look much more appealing with the screen on top of the speaker which would then pivot on its own axis and, as you said Stu, what's with that bezel? I would like it to look like the iMac screens and have it with no bezel at all!
I have got the Echo Show 8 and no reason to upgrade to this.
I think you are on to something. The wake word does tend to annoy me sometimes and to just look at her and ask for what you want would be great. Also a great vid Stu keep up the great work look forward to your vids.👍
Thanks Robin! 👍 we will see in a year or twos time whether I’m right or not! 😂
It reminds me of an iPad attached to a HomePod. It’s a bit like the Facebook Portal because the camera follows you. £240. Ouch! That’s expensive. The bezels need sorting. 🧐 It would really look at home on a kitchen island. I’d like it to have a male voice. If you’re bored of saying Alexa change the wake word. 😂 @ Hibbert at end.
Can I view my outdoor cameras with this ,say 4 at once as long as they work with Alexa ????
Is it just me, or does this resemble the design of the iMac G4?
And a whole new generation of helicopter parents where born.
I do think the end of the wake word should be a focus point, yes. If you talk to most home automators their focus are on automation i.e. not having to use voice commands. I certainly avoid doing voice commands, even for my clients. I rather teach them to do automations or rely on their daily routines to either time or trigger things they want to happen instead of using voice commands. I fully agree with your argument.
As much as I really really want to get this, I think I am going to hold out for a 2nd Gen version of it.
Smart
So an echo show 4th gen?
This is the 3ed generation
When will the next version be revealed?
You will probably always need a wake word. 1) if you have more than 1 echo device (I have a Show in the bedroom and the living room, and a Studio in the living room); 2) if you have more than one brand of device: 3) if you want to do different things on different device (example: play music on my Echo Studio while following a recipe on an Echo Show in the kitchen)
Come back here when you’re wrong 😉. I mean there’s already software that stops others listening when one is active… not too hard to implement across the system if ‘awareness/attention Is detected, don’t activate in other rooms’. Brand of device is surely irrelevant? And the last point is a rehash of your original point.
Personally don't like it as you have to open a Web page to get bbciplayer and youtube (so pointless voice assistance) can't get britbox. Looks good and sounds good but I prefer the nest hub max at least I cam cast to it. If you like it then great for you but for the money it doesn't do enough as a media player for me in the uk
Still a bit pricey though. Great edit Stu.
It is indeed... but do you think I’m right, that’s the question!
@@StusReviewsUK Sadly my wallet agreed with you.....damn you sir and your clever reasoning.
Whether we see it in this iteration or not, I’m not sure, but I definitely think Amazon will be using the data learned from this device to implement something like what I suggested in future devices!
This may be the future of eliminating the ‘wake word’
My Echo Show keeps watching me. Help?
Fascinating... Although you may think £240 is a fair price, in Australia it's $400! Very overpriced, especially without Alexa Guard and the care feature to keep track of family members.
Wait, I mean... technically that’s cheaper for us under the conversion rate (comes out at £220) 👀👀
@@StusReviewsUK Yes I'm aware of that and I agree with the exchange rate it's a bit cheaper, but exchange rates don't take into account that it's still 400 of a currency. I always relate currency back to the price of a can of coke. When I lived in England a can cost 50p (not sure how much they cost now) and in Australia they cost $1.50 (they're now $2.50, so I assume they're over £1 now...) With the exchange rate at the time they were "equal". But one is still 3 times the price of the other. Also exchange rates don't factor in costs of living and wages. Last time I was in England, it was drastically cheaper in London than here in Melbourne.
All very true 👍
I bought one today
I just think this is terrifying to be honest!
He called it!
I did!
@@StusReviewsUK BA BAM!
This must have been asked already, but what if there is more than one person in the room? None of the reviews I have seen address this, at all.
Have you ever considered making a short speed review like a 4 minute review Idk Or even a KZhead short or tiktok
I did do some TikTok’s, but I don’t think there’s much pull for tech stuff there! More snippets from my product shots than a different review entirely!
That bezel 🤮
I know right!
Mine is a piece of junk that can't answer simple questions or hear my replies properly. The follow me capabilities ate a joke top. It gets confused constantly. It's garbage.
That thing looks terrible. When did bezels start getting bigger again? It looks like the answer to a question no-one will ever ask.
I know right! Bloody awful 🤮 the device is 80% bezel. But... do you think my theory is right? 👀
In my view there is literally NO viable use case whatsoever for the swivel function. Its utterly pointless. At very best the far fetched positive for a 360 waist View, security camera is laughable. This thing is a gigantic waste of money for what is essentially just a larger slightly better speaker with a pointless screen spinning around. Amazon just make an actually TV show range already. This is the first attempt at taking a central 360 position in a room and until we all sit around the tv instead of infront of it this thing just doesnt have a place in our homes at all
Tracking your movement and following you isn't very good on the echo 10.
What was the "hidden secret"... 😕
Hidden secret is the prospective implications.
@@StusReviewsUK oh OK. I was wondering if I missed somthing. 👍 thank you (I just opened mine)
peoples names are basically wake words aye. I dont see the issue.
Very informative, but please: "in - oh - vay - tiv", not "inniv - oh - tiv". Your OCD? MY OCD!! :)
Theory right bezel wrong
100% As in the device is 100% bezel.
How to you pronounce "innovative"?
This British English way (the correct way).🇬🇧 kzhead.info/sun/iqyMnZmGpXiQd5s/bejne.html
Bezels are too thick IMO
So big. Make a pair of skis out of them. Amazon need to sort themselves out when it comes to bezels!
Why the pause between saying Alexa and telling her what to do? Just say "Alexa turn off studio". You don't need the pause.
Yes this is a fair point 👍, but the point still stands about the wait time, that you have to wait for her to compute that request before asking a second (even if you have the listen for further requests option turned on)
While no pause is needed, the pause does prevent errors.
@@Badonicus that is one of the most annoying things ever, when you reel off a request, only to realise she hadn't activated 😂
Where’s the secret
Watch the episode
It looks like a lovechild of a HomePod and an iPad... if you’re concerned about your privacy you shouldn’t buy an Amazon product... and it’s not that cheap when you consider you pay with your data... sorry, not a big fan of ‘her’...
