Sinai is one of the UK’s most versatile sound systems. Deep Medi, Tectonic Recordings and Young Echo are some of the labels and collectives to have hosted the roaming Sheffield audio installation, which bridges the gap between traditional dub sound system culture and modern bass music.
Founded by Huw Williams, Sinai Sound System began life as part of the travelling speaker stack for legendary dub outfit Iration Steppas. Over the years, Sinai has grown in size and reputation, travelled the continent and endured a devastating flood in its hometown.
In this film, FACT travels to Sheffield to hear the story of Sinai Sound System and follows it to Bristol’s Trinity Centre as it prepares to provide the audio at the fifth birthday party for Batu’s Timedance label.

this mans got real love for his rig and i totally see why
Reinier Basson anyone in this business wants the best and after spending so much money you’d have to love audio and your equipment why would you not baby it? There is nothing like that feeling of hearing your system just rock!!
These guys make a huge difference. If you've ever been to a gig where the sound has been set up carefully it's mind blowing.. you can tell straight away and it puts a huge grin on your face
i wish i could listen to some jungle blasting through dem speakers
not me keep it reggae dub
proper oldskool '94 jungle vibes yessss
kurupt fm bruv
Maybe Jungle Dub as a compromise?! Such as Longsy D´s Dangerous Dub
@@NBGalder Recomendate some Dub and Jungle to Listen Please ;)!!!
It's one thing running a PA system but Sound System is definitely next level. About a decade ago my son came from a night out talking about the bass in a club he'd been to, so I booked tickets for Iration Steppas at a venue in Leeds, Mark Iration was playing along side OBF from France (I believe). The bass was so powerful that it even blew me away and I remember Iration before he was Iration. Over the years he's certainly come on in leaps and bounds. One love, sound system culture 😃👍
Ah man, I was coping alright with lockdown until now... now I just want to stand in front of this surrounded by happy people. One of the most incredible experiences I've ever had at a night was hearing and feeling this sound system, split into two, in two corners of a room that couldn't have been more than 15 x 40 ft, at Hope Works. Just continuous uncontrollable grinning and full-on body vibration.
As a DJ I’ve always thought that the quality of the audio is as important as what is being played. So many nightclub have rubbish sound when sound is the actual product they are pushing. Hats off to you sir for taking the time to make amazing sound!
Only recently discovered there are 'sound system scenes', Blows my mind that things like this exist. A relic of the past.
Incredible, ended up in Mexico City to shoot a video for a sound system crew, one of the most incredible nights of my life haha
30,000 people go to a festival in France every year, just for this kind of vibes. Still strong around the world :)
Teckno doc on youtube is great
@@SinaiSound Which festival is that?

they used this at my first ever rave. changed my life
Sinai is by far the greatest sound-system I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing
Big up to Sinai. If you get the opportunity to see Sinai in action please do. The boys that run it are humble and absolutely on point. Awesome video, well filmed, well presented and well put together.
I'm an audio engineer out of work due to the pandemic and this makes me miss live events even more than I already do :'(
Yeah, Why Im watching this 🤪 ? Stupid feed raccomendations
i dont think anyone realizes how powerful systems like these are...

this is easily one of the most interesting and fascinating video productions ive seen lately..... the audio alone on this is a fantastic. superb job.
Great content... those pictures of the flooded gear are enough to send a shiver up your spine lol
I used to run sound years ago for DnB events. Speaker location and phase cancellations was always a fun game! Your operation seems very good. Keep up the good work.
The clearest sound system I've ever encountered was in the main room at Ministry of Sound. Loud but so clear incredible.
Incredible soundsystem. Had the pleasure of playing on Sinai in Sheffield. Big up Huw and Sinai crew.
The quality of this video is pristine!! Graphics are awesome. Sinai Sound System is next level. All this right here is Fiirrrre!!!!! 🙌🔊💚🔥🔥🔥
Have had the pleasure of playing on this system a few times - unbelievable bass weight and clarity. great bunch of guys too!
and big up Mark - many funny green room conversations over the years :)
Since their upgrade to Paraflexs and the couple lil tweaks calum audio added to the original cut sheets, sinai sound is running the same set up as the B.S.System by Babylon Sonic Research in PHXAZ lol
Heard nothing but brilliant things from this sound system, and now i see why.. Love the dedication and passion that goes into it
Mate, havent even watched entire video can tell you ur the MAN. The Sinai lore is rly appropriate for such a devices of peace as soundsystems. respects and best wishes from Lithuania, after living 3 years in patchway of Bristol ;D
This is who I want to work for! Couldn't agree more on their technical stuff, this is just amazing!
This man ❤️❤️❤️and the crew. So much knowledge shear Sending love from Georgia 🇬🇪 massive
THIS is the content we need!! Love it
Fascinating man, some good sounds throughout the vid mate I enjoyed that.
Subdub changed me forever too, always be a mecha! Seen you guys a few times too, keep doing what you do! Love
thanks so much for this video! best i've seen from music editorials in awhile! great production, tunes, interviews, footage, and the passion these people and artists have came through loud and clear d-_-b
I Like Sinai. You're ever so open about your machine. Shows self confidence. Well Done! And best of luck in growth.
Love this, good musical inspiration for the New Year. Hopefully we'll be witnessing Sinai back in full effect in 2021! 1♥️
Big up Sinai crew🤘🏻 Witnessed this very rig for my eyes a couple of times ❤️
So thankful I experienced SUBDUB Iration Steppas at Leeds West Indian Centre prior to COVID music event suffocation. Place was rattling to pieces 😆
This is going to be a great watch! 🙏
Would love to hear that soundsystem! Thanks for this great video!
Salute to these guys, the next generation keeping it moving & innovating, nothing but respect!
This sound system is mental. I heard it live at the international DUB gathering 2019. What a time! Peace and love!
Bravo! Thats beautiful man!
Heard this at Outernet for the 1st time and it is arguably the best soundsystem in the world.................Absolutely mindblowing!!
Ive been there too, sick night… 😮
as an engineer who's worked in shitty clubs, fighting to make them sound how I want them to, this is my idea of nirvana. aside from load-in/out lol
I've had this experience, all the clubs I worked at had systems (usually CVA) that were built to a price and never maintained (mostly because management didn't want to invest in new drivers because profit margin blah blah blah). Either that, or having systems that were vastly underpowered for the venue, so had to be driven hard in order to get any decent coverage, and then ended up sounding shit. I find that privately owed clubs care more about their systems than high street venues.
@@therealchayd Mama Jamas where I live just bought some "ProSound" from Maplin, flung them up on random support columns and called it a day. Wasn't terribly refined sounding or bassy but it "did the job".
@@TimpBizkit I guess they'd be adequate for fill speakers if anything, It depends on whether they're a music-oriented venue or mostly a bar where it's just background music and no need for high volume or sound qualty.
My favourite live system of all time is Dillinja & Lemon D's self-built Valve sound system. So rich and warm. Built with such love and a degree of obsession. It blew me away live. These Sinai guys seem to be similarly impassioned and obsessed with sound reproduction. It'd be nice to hear the Sinai system too.
Woooow you are amazing guys. All my rissspekt and love. Thanks for sharing all this. Amaaziiiing video. Amazing vybzzz
Saw Sinai a couple times at YNot Festival, that bass hits differently!! Big up
Much love to Sinai for trying to make something for some of the best music out there. I remember seeing the old posters online for Deep Medi shows with this system, much love from Alabama. Real bass weight music will stay around.
I went to the deep medi nights on this system. They were just as good as you would think! Magic
This is my kind of rig! As a sound tech, rig owner and audiophile, I've been trying to figure out a way to bridge the gap between what you hear with clarity, depth and space in the studio with high end speakers, and bringing that to live sound world. You lot overseas have the ability to travel around europe with your soundsystems, to many different audiences, but alas here in North America, its just not the same. Thank you for the in depth look at all of the gear!
Unfortunately you will only get that in a night club if you spec a system which can reach high spl levels with minimal distortion in a room that has been acoustically treated like a studio which is rarely done .
Great Insight Into Sinai .... You Guyz Are Too Humble 😊 ....Bless 😉
been to so many events where sinai have done the sound, they are the most amazing team and have the most amazing rig
Haven't heard it, but whats not great about it and who would you say has an amazing sound system?
anyone who was at outlook or dimensions last year knows that this is the best soundsystem in the world!
Was wearing a baggy lightweight shirt on the night of the rupture takeover and the thing was literally getting lifted over my belly button whenever that kick hit. Truly powerful
i think this is why i cant hear properly in my right ear aha
Had the pleasure of hearing this most weekends in Sheffield
last year was sounding quiet af but the sinai's came thru as always
Never heard this system but I heard tsunami bass more than enough times in NY nd proper sound is everything for sure!!
You have a run in with sinai sound once and you're hooked for life!
SINAIIIII Never disappoints
I enjoyed their set at Rototom 2019 so much. Mad tunes!
Awesome! Great wee video. Pleasure to see it in action at Outlook Fest Uk:) Thankyou
This is the coolest thing I've seen this year.
was nice to see Alix Perez on the flyer
Quality documentary big ups!
Issa beast! Keep it coming
The true heart and skill of this system is Huw.. Large up
Heard sinai by accident a few years back in Notts when they were powering a Tumble audio event. Haven’t heard anything like it since, incredible set up
Sorted must relive it . Good sound quality this end . Live to feel it again .
This video by far has the most positive comments section of any video i think i have ever seen. Positive Vibrations!!!!!!1
dope! more videos like this please.
That was freaking awesome!
love the animation and break down guys. nice one.
I remember you from when i helped Patrick of I O J, may he rest in peace, and drove the sound van for him and Sammy Dread. I remember thinking all the time how knowledgeable you are, and i got to get to know this guy. you may well not remember my AKA,of DUBWISE007 Keep doing what your doing, even the helping out of other sounds system, bless.
Wow I would love this I love everything about sound and the engineering behind it all
Would love to feel some jungle/Drum&Bass/Liquid with that sound system. 🤩
I'm afraid I'd never be able to listen to dnb with my own speakers after that 😁
@@lazarj well....yep that would deffo be the case but ooohmydays
these lot did the sound for a deep medi night at brixton electric and boiiiiiiii, the way the bass passed through your whole body was such a buzz ! biggups
Amazing work, it took me years to perfect my PA. 3 ways cross over to three different speaker arrays (high, mids, lows/subs) mcIntosh 2300 power amps. Vintage shit but sounds amazing.
this is beautiful
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. In purpose built track cars, rubber bushings are replaced with solid metal mounts in the subframe (connecting the suspension to the body) to improve the feedback the driver receives from the road. Interestingly the equations for "waves" are analogous across science, whether they be electrical, mechanical, or audible waves -- all being magnitudes of energy over time and space. Respect to Sinai for pushing the craft forward
You can see how much he loves what he does and how much skill is involved
100% you can hear the passion in all of the teams voices, its for the love
I really like the rubber-based feet for the TT's. Back in the day ( early '80s) I was young and dumb and using a pair of BFI Bullfrog PA's with a monster Project One receiver. In order to isolate the TT from all the shaking I took two rectangular kitchen sponges and cut them in half, then placed each sponge on a saucer and each saucer under a foot on the TT. When we threw a party I'd wet the sponges and never had a problem again with records skipping.
Fascinating!
best sound system I've ever heard
intro music? amazing job ;) greetings from méxico
So dope and inspiring. Hope you to catch one day. Come to Cali!
cracking sound system! big up
Very informative love the story
Super cool! Respect!
Wow! My name all over the place, I love it.
Epic love you guys big inspiration! Long with g.o.d soundsystems n white noise audio ! Wouldn't be building me rig right now without looking up to them since I was a youth 🙂
Danced all night to these guys at Hope Works
big inspiration . forward!
Sinai kept me awake some nights and I just dont mind at all.
Great video. I own a 5-way, Funktion-One Evo 7 system with 8 2x21" horn loaded subs and 2 double infrabass horns.. Pretty versatile, but it's been collecting dust as most sound systems around the world. Dreaming of getting it back on the sand floor.
The Infra-bass speakers are dope! Helped a guy set up 4 infra-bass in a symphony hall. That feeling stays with you for years.
BlessUp ALL sound system.......Nuff Love
Amazing Soundsystem
Everytime I see one of these sound system videos it just reminds me I want my own. Then I remember Ive no space to store the huge speaker stacks. Still have the ridiculous wattage amps though so maybe one day...
That is one badass rig!
Very good guys. Almost Saxon, nearly Coxone 💯❤️
Great video and big up Huw. Is there any plans to do more videos like this but with other big systems?
That was awesome
Excellent 🔊🕪🎶👌🗻
NICE! Sound techs are Artists. I love this field. It's working with something invisible and temporal. I can't count the amount of people I've encountered who think it is just plugging stuff in or turning something on, lol.
This sound system sounds great in my headphones
I experienced the soundsystem at Dimensions Sub-Dub Arena. The energy of the soundsystem was so intense the air started heating up from the vibrations. Unreal to actually start sweating from the energy of the music hahah
while i was watching the video i was wondering what were the best soundsystems i've ever heard, and i came up with the Sub Dub arena one (and Berghain, just as good); only after reading the comments i realized those guys were the owner of the soundsystem lol
While it's an entertaining idea, it wasn't the vibrations heating up the air. Even if you crammed two dozen 15kW M-Force subs into a tiny 500 person venue, the vibrations wouldn't heat up the air (but you would pass out from the agonising pain).
Francesco Spinolo are these actually good, or just powerful? The best soundsystem I’ve heard had a great body load but not too much... and yet you could hear all the elements through the highs fairly evenly.
Great!
Sofa Sound brought me here. Big up Sinai.
S/O from Czech Republic!
Big Sound Bless up

MESSENGER SOUND SYSTEM is my true love but you guys got it too!
