RETIRED DANCER'S REACTION+REVIEW: ITZY "Mafia In The Morning" Dance Practice!

WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?!
Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this KZhead name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛

  • I'm such a sucker for their comeback, I'm not a gg stan but Itzy gets a lot of attention and it's justified. I'm sorry but I can't relate with the people who don't like this comeback. Have you seen this choreo. Their charisma, the attitude, the skills, this makes a strong title. The song too is interesting. If it wasn't Itzy maybe I wouldn't have a lot of interest in the song. But the girls make it a perfectly formula. That is their essence and that's why this comeback is a success in my opinion. I love the risk they took with this slightly different concept. I'll definitely watch their stages, I can't get this choreo out of my head.

    @leoniemelodie7@leoniemelodie73 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly they're almost same level with Boy groups when it terms to choreography and stage presence.

      @yourstzuyu4414@yourstzuyu44143 жыл бұрын
    • @@yourstzuyu4414 I think it's different for gg and bg but I'd personally put them at the same level. I think Itzy has more stage presence than lots of bg because their attitude is on point and their dance impactful. The work they put into it really shows. Some bg with hard dances aren't as fun to watch perform as Itzy.

    • well, I think majority of the backlash is really against JYP himself and mostly in korea. But this has been brewing, for years (we're talking since Wonder Girls) people have been annoyed with JYP bc his music (at least what he produces and writes) is ALWAYS retro or throwback or stuck in the past. With this release, while it might be new to a lot of newer kpop fans DOES sound like a 2010s era song (along with their wardrobing). Same when Black Eye Pilseung stopped writing for Twice and when he took over the songs def were not as successful. I also think people get annoyed with JYP a lot bc he's been shown to be rather cruel and dismissive to a lot of trainees and idols under him over the years (nvm whenever he goes on competition shows how wrong he's been on some trainees who went on to become rather successful) and ESPECIALLY when idols under him come to him with songwriting ( he is INCREDIBLY dismissive to anyone who tries to write under him). He always finds the need to tell people how good he is a songwriting or dancing......personally, I think he's always been a little insecure about his looks (even tho he can dance he's never looked good dancing even tho he has good technique). Honestly, I think in korea there's changing wave of sentiment and people are generally tired of Company heads constantly selling themselves and being in front of the camera

      @703elee@703elee3 жыл бұрын
    • They said the song sounds more like a bg release than a gg release because its rap heavy. In other words, they want to segregate songs based of gender. Other than that, JYP is criticized for giving ITZY simple lyrics.

    • All you have to do is look at the results. This song grew on me and the haters normally wouldn't listen to it twice so their opinion doesn't matter. Not Shy had the same effect and it did better than I had expected even though it's not my cup of tea.

    • @@703elee thanks for this info. Yeah I’m fairly new to kpop, late 2018. I knew bout the backlash when it comes to writers like Black Eye but not the a full extent. It’s a different side of ITZY I seen, I like all their songs casually but this song hits me the most. Say it’s new, say it’s mature, it’s different for me. But like you said JYP has always been know to throw it back with this writing and producing style which I have seen

All the live stages, tv shows , etc. Sure they have their breaks in between comebacks but hey, if you're doing harder choreos like this form the 2 years of performing(not included pre debut) i mean , man... They just need appreciation of their hardwork... As if thinking that it's too easy for her, which I don't mind. But this one seems she is going full out and enjoying herself. I know from dancing myself, when you're into a dance or a song, it comes off in your movement versus if you're dancing to something that you're just not that into.

The lyrics are what ultimately drew me in though. 마.피.아. Is literally an acrostic poem Lia sings in the bridge. It means "Finally the inevitable morning comes." They are pure talent. I think they say, the more hate you get means the more talent you have. They embody being different, and breaking the barrier. We should embrace them for doing what is only considered a boy group concept.

  • Yuna’s part at 5:20 the lyrics talk about her being a wolf and the choreo reflects that with the other girls’ movements showing a search and then looking at her cuz she’s saying she’s the mafia and tricking you. And Chaeryeong is even doing wolf ears.

  • In the first time I didn't like the song, Yeji's "rap" wasn't my fav thing. But now I hear more the song and I like it. Love Yuna parts, love her.
