I've been saying for so long that Sean O'Malley makes Merab look easy. Sean's training camps are grapple-heavy fight camps. As he's had always prepared to defend takedowns and what to do on the ground. We've seen Merab get hurt by shorter guys who have rocked Merab from the inside. What happens when Merab faces the longest opponent he's ever fought with a very long reach and has great footwork. People who pick Merab the only reason they are is because his cardio and he will just take Sean down. My response is what happens when he takes Sean down? Because the last time Merab submitted someone was back in 2017. It's been 7 years ago since he submitted someone. He has no submission threats, has pop in his punches but no power at all, is quite short in the division. Merab also has barely ANY footage of how Sean is grappling wise. But anyhow, if you're only argument for Merab to win is he will just keep taking him down then you know Sean will likely win. As the question is.. CAN Merab get Sean down a lot and just hold him down for 5 rounds OR will he fail to get those takedowns, and start getting beaten up. Also Sean throwing more knee's now and a lot more teep kicks... intetresting.

Yeah, I could see it. Sean's distance management is very underrated. Wouldn't be too surprised if Merab's cardio shuts him out, but Sean finding Merab wouldn't be weird at all.
Merab's coming in juiced to the gills with EPO. His cardio is gonna be maxed out and chin indestructible.

I fully agree with you. It's MMA anything can happen but I truly see so much evolution in O'malley's skills. Every opponent has gone against Sean with the goal of taking him down. Look how he beat Thomas Almada. In a lot of his fights he's shown potential of what he's capable of and I really think he can cement himself in batamweight history. Ilia's acting all arrogant like he runs the UFC with no title defenses so I'd like to see Sean face Ilia down the road. Ilia should focus on defending his belt. I think Cory vs O'malley & the Merab fights would be so epic for his 135 fight list. I know people have been discrediting chito after this but going into this everyone held that loss over Sean's head and people still had a feeling chito could beat Sean, or Sean would be super boring. YET Sean went out there and put on a 5 round masterclass. Proving his cardio and levels to his skills and fight IQ. I've never seen Chito THAT hurt before and even tho Cory beat chito, it's crazy how Sean was able to damage chito that bad. He has very effective offensive aggression. Most people with feints and his abilities don't fight like Sean. Others need there opponent to come to them in order to maybe counter them but Sean's proven he is Effective fighting in pretty much every direction, either stance, crazy timing juking output which makes his feints work more because he actually attacks mixed with-in them. It's awesome to watch

I thought before the weekend that Sean would KO Merab, I still believe that. Merab will have to attack him more than he did Yan and not give him a chance to breathe and set something up. If he does what he did to Yan he'll get rid of him, O'Malley isn't as good of a defensive grappler and it would wear him down. But I don't think he can not get clipped by Sean before Sean is worn down enough. And Sean won't miss his shots after catching him.

Honestly I agree. Sean’s footwork is phenomenal, Merab would first have to get close, do we really think O’Malley is just gonna let Merab get in range? Merab gets caught by far less impressive strikers, if O’Malley clips him, then he’s gonna finish him. Think about it like this if Sean lands the same shots on Merab that he did on Chito, will Merab remain standing?

Styles make fights. If you think Merab is the underdog in this fight, you are delusional. Merab is reckless in the pocket, at a distance Merab has done just fine. The range on his td attempts is pretty damn good. O'Malley can absolutely win by KO in the early rounds, but him being the favorite is cope talk. Anything past the second round is merab land. With only two rounds to finish a fight, the cards will be stacked against suga.
I think the fight odds wise should be a pick em. I’m not too confident that past the second round is merab land if he isn’t able to do anything significant in the first two rounds. If it a slow pace fight like the Aljo fight, I think suga will still be live in the later rounds. Merab also doesn’t have great finishing threat on the ground. His foot work is laughable compared to Suga, Suga will clip him
@@BasedMMA if merab survives two rounds, that means hes already attempted 10-20 takedowns (lol, thats a legit sentence) Defending that many takedowns is already taxing, just getting up from 5-10 takedowns is even worse. If it gets to the third round, that by default means hes been able to enforce his strategy. Even if suga is one of the best strikers in the ufc, merab is no amateur, if suga is dead tired and he is not, its not a stretch to suggest that footwork won't help suga outrun the other 20-30 td attempts, while compromising his striking ability and speed.

Rewatch Cejudo Merab or Merab Yan and look how shoots those takedowns there almost half ass, he will get countered. If anything merab may just stall him against the fence in the early rounds
