Shipbuilding giant Fincantieri specializes in a process called "jumboization," where cruise ships are cut in half and lengthened to meet the growing demands of the cruise industry. The jumboization process involves precise engineering and the use of massive equipment, including skid shoes and hydraulic systems, to move and support the ship sections. Fincantieri's Renaissance program involves the lengthening of four ships for MSC Cruises, each undergoing this complex jumboization process. This engineering feat not only increases the passenger capacity of the ships but also requires meticulous planning, construction, and testing to ensure safety and seaworthiness.

  • The ugly neologism "jumboization" is just plain silly. The word you're looking for might be "enlargement" or prehaps "lengthening." No ears. No trunk. No fat grey belly. Just accurate suggestions of what's being done to the ship, see?
