Thank you guys for the love and support. What do you guys think who is better, Rhodes or Jadeja?
Jadeja And Jonty Are From Different Generations That's Why Their Comparison Isn't Worth It, Both Of Them Have Done A Tremendous Job In Their Respective Eras, In Case Of Rhodes, He Is The Father Of Modern Fielding, So Comparing Him To Any Other Fielder Is Worthless And In Case Of Jadeja, This May Offend Someone But He Is The Best Fielder Of The Post Jonty And Ponting Era, He Can Do Everything Diving Catches Quick Reflexes Catches Jumping Catches Running Catches Quick Throws Direct Hits I Don't Even Remember The Last Time He Dropped A Catch
Agreed. Jadeja is the best fielder of this era
Jonty Rhodes is uncomparable to anyone.
@@CricketStories007think azhar name comes first then Jadeja and robin singh afterwards
Obviously only one jonty rodhes he's best fielder and energetic also no one can beat jhonty rodhes 🎉
In my school days we all started to like fielding just because of Jonty and everyone used to think they are Jonty when they save a run 😃 Such was his charisma..... a true legend and there cant be another like him for sure!
A LEGEND!!
@@CricketStories007 For a fan, I'm amazed you spell his name wrong!
I Definitely Agree!
True
"Aye Jonty!" was the default chant when someone fielded extremely well in backyard cricket after school. What a legend!
True
Thanks for this tribute! Not many people know that Jonty had to fix his batting technique to get rid of his hockey tendencies. Once it was fixed, he averaged 50 in Tests before concentrating on ODIs.
yes, good point, and fact. great post.
What Sir Don was to batting, Rhodes was to fielding! What a fielder..used to save atleast 10-15 runs for SA almost every game..he was, is and will remain the benchmark and reference for fielding ❤ The most influential acrobatic-star of Cricket!
AGREED!
Rhodes transformed the game - he is a legend
Exactly 💯
Man, every kid i knew playing cricket as a kid wanted to be Jonty Rhodes on the field...Man was a cricketing hero!! SA Legend
What a team that was where Jonty Rhodes had fielded with his exceptional ability beyond Cricket play imagination and Late South African Skipper Hansie Cronje with his flair to hit the balls for super sixes & I feel fortunate to view all those exceptional matches.
One of the best South African sides of all time
I was a huge fan of that team. Hansie Cronje is still my favourite captain.
Undoubtedly greatest fielder in the history of cricket
Exactly, the GOAT
He was a wonderful fieldsman, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but saying he is "undoubtedly" is more than a bit too much. Ponting and Jadeja are believed by many, including myself, to be better all around fielders, That's just opinion as well, but the fact that those opinions are held by a lot of people means we really can't say Rhodes was "undoubtedly" the best.
@@outandaboutintheworl do Ponting or Jadeja have world record catches in a match? Do they have 100 catches in ODI... No!! So Jonty is the best undoubtedly and undeniably. Just give credit where it's due.
@@user-yr9ik4fc5sRhodes took 105 ODI catches. Ponting took 160 catches. By your own measure you're completely, hopelessly wrong. And total catches is a stupid measure, being a product of games played and catches generated more than a player's catching skill. But even if we pretended it was what mattered, Ponting is 55 ahead of Rhodes.
The best fielder! His fielding was like a batsman getting a hundred or a bowler getting a 5fer! He changed the complexion of the games with genius fielding moves
Exactly
I used to watch South Africa's match only to see Jonty Rhodes miracles on the field
One of the best
When Jonty was in the field - you could see the batsmen fearing to take the normally "safe" single. He was phenomenal - taking down brilliant batsmen that was on track to score huge numbers of runs when there was not a real chance for mere mortals to take the catch or runout.
That 90s SA team was something else. Kirsten, Gibbs, Kallis, Cronje, Boucher, Rhodes, Klusener, Pollock, Donald and De Villiers. They were good at tests and incredible at ODIs. Its sad that they didn't win any of the Word Cups in the 90s.
They were one of the best at that time
Special Thanks To 22 Off 1
That was unfair and shocking
They came very close in 99 world cup. Klusener was the man of the series I think. I remember that tragic semifinal where klusener celebrated prematurely and the team lost. And in 2000 match fixing scandal hit Cronje among others
@@shrikanthpai6604 Well That's Painful , Victory Was In Their Hands
When people think of batsmen, Tendulkar and Lara always come to mind. When you think of bowlers, Warne (RIP) Ambrose come to mind. Fielders only Rhodes comes to mind such is his influence
You my good sir, are a legend! Thanks for the memories and honouring Jonty! Literally the only cricketer renowned for his fielding though he was a great batsman too! I stopping bowling because of Jonty, spent more time on my fielding and bought his pants when his fashion line dropped 😎
He is a legend!
Absolutely, Diving and jumping wasnt part of this game. Rhodes transformed this and took it to next level...!!!
Yes!!!
Thanks for bringing attention to Rhodes, I feel he is often forgotten as time has passed. In the 90s Rhodes' fielding was legendary. Square of the wicket I still don't think there has been any better since when it comes to saving runs and catching. I think Ponting was better at direct hit run outs and as an all-round fielder. None was better at saving runs at cover than Ponting.
Wonderful words by you about this amazing cricket player. Respect. cheers mike.
He was my favorite player growing up. He is not only a great player but also great ambassador for the sport.
❤...thx for your program...❤...he is a legend...🇿🇦
Who is many thinking ponting is better fielder? No one comparatively with Jhonty
Both are legends
@@johnsebastianerinjeri5260both are legends but only jhonty excellent fielder
Ponting is excellent, but if your intention is to compare with Jhonty then NO
Jondy rhodes was my hero. Henry olonga from Zimbabwe. Bret lee Hanzie cronie
A GREAT VIDEO with a great commentary track for one of the GREATEST LEGENDS of the game …..the only real magician to ever play the game….. All hail Jonty Rhodes …….🙏🙏🙏
One of the best of all time🔥
Jonty rhodes in an interview said that suresh raina is a very good fielder. He also said that diving in indian grounds is difficult back then coz of less grass cover.
Jonty, the national treasure of South African cricket.
Jonny was & still a legend & I'm 🇦🇺
Thank you so much for this video. Very well done. Jonty is no longer a man, he is a legend and one day he will fall into myth but his name will last forever.
He is the best of all time
I think Jonty Rhodes brought respect and admiration to fielding, when the games was mostly about batting and bowling. The massive names in cricket with just batsmen and bowlers. But Jonty brought his own style and commitment to fielding that set the stage and benchmark for future generations. I grew up watching him in action, and he stole the show. Suddenly we were there not to see the batting prowess of bowling tactics, but to see Jonty demolish a team by stealing a small chance and devastating the batsmen. Its Jonty. The quintessential fielder.
Absolutely South Africa was kinda one of the top teams in terms of bowling and batting - but likely not in the top three or four... But Jonty Rhodes changed that with his fielding. Jonty revolutionised fielding.
I watched his first class debut season in 1988 when fellow university student club cricketers kept talking about his running between the wickets and freaky fielding. So we went to Kingsmead where Rhodes for Natal made a good score against Western Province ..later he fieldes and i was unlike anything I had ever seen.in terms of speed across the turf , anticipation and acrobatic catching. He built up a huge local following with fellow cricketer/rugby player Errol Stewart who was similarly athletic. Haven't see anyone since Jonty with the same explosiveness, agility, speed in that point /cover point area.
Maybe H. Gibbs
One day cricket was exciting, 50 over, for those who remember. Test 5 day cricket was an absolute display of cricketing skill. Loved it because you could watch the tactics develop, only great player survived 5 day. SA politics destroyed proteas cricket, really fantastic to see some glimpses of the return of SA to world class. Just as the Bok team has made South African great again, now that the teams can select from all its people, the culture of sport is coming back. Would love to see athletes get back in a strong presence. Jonty was respected around the world and made fielding an important skill for the teams.
I watched Jonty walking off a hockey field bouncing the ball on the end of his stick which was vertical, remarkably he was chatting to one of team mates and wasn't even watching the ball.
"The Muhammad Ali of Cricket" Jonty changed the game forever. I still miss him.
He was one of the best
I captained Jonty when he was just a 16 year old and the talent was already there. He played his first game for us, (our 2nd team) in a Sunday league, as he played school cricket on Saturdays, and scored 170 something not out. Incredible cricketer and a superb young man. I have nothing but admiration for Jonty and his entire family. I also played hockey with his father, Digby Rhodes and he was my wife's headmaster while she was a teacher at his school.
🔥🔥🔥
Jonty was the best fieldsman iv'e ever seen. Ponting was a great run out man (as was Rhodes), but Rhodes took some of the best catches of all time. He was dynamic in the field & set a very high standard for world cricket.
its about time we bring up this legend
Jonty was an all-rounder without needing to bowl at all. On his poor days he used to save 5-10 runs plus holding onto all his catches. In his good days at least a game changing run-out, gobbling up half-chance catches and solid batting contributions.
Changed way of fielding in the ground. The catch shown before inzamam run out was super stunning, confidence he had in running out inzamam was phenomenal.
Yeah!
SA was an indestructible team back then with Kirsten, Gibbs, Pollock, Donald, Kallis, Rhodes and such legends. I miss the good old Cricketing days!
Yeah
Lance klusener also

Yeah, true
he is my hero. NO 8 all the way
He truly was the best in fielding ✌️hands down the best in many eras 🎉🎉
Commentator Trevor Quirk: "That's very naughty of him to run against Rhodes."
You Should Have Made This Video A Bit Longer, You Mentioned That He Was From A Hockey Background But You Didn't Mentioned That Hockey Played An Important Role In Creating Him Such A Great Fielder, Fielding Is An Extremely Important Part In Hockey, It Requires Speed, Agility, Quick Decision Making And Quick Reflexes, So When He Entered Cricket, He Took This Mentality With Him Also You Didn't Mention One Important Thing His Run Out Against Pakistan Is Not Special Because Of The Superman Dive, It Also Consists Of These Factors The Speed The Self Believe Of Making It Before The Batsman Jumping On The Pitch Can Seriously Injure A Player As It Is Not Full Of Grass But Jonty Rhodes Went For The Selfless Side This Could Have Shown The Beauty Of Jonty Rhodes Runout In A More Detailed Way
Sure, thanks for pointing out
My childhood hero❤❤❤❤
First of the great fielders was Colin Bland of South Africa. Then there was Clive Lloyd of West Indies, both magnificent in the cover point and mid wicket regions hitting the stumps nearly every time. Then came this fella, Jonty Rhodes. He was like a fish out of water, taking catches horizontal from the ground and his hitting of the stumps running batsmen out was extraordinary. I do apologise I forgot to mention Derek Randall of England who was in the same mould as Lloyd & Rhodes, brilliant fielder.
He is also one of the nicest cricketers you will ever meet. Him and Neil Mckenzie always so humble.
Once that buddy picked up MOM for fielding . ❤❤❤
Crazy!!
Jonty Rods had unparalleled fame when he used to play .
Agreed
Monty set the fielding standard, inspired all of us to take up cricket during and after the ‘92 CWC
Yeah!
An absolutely a wonderful and a magnificent fielder of all times in cricket history what ever comes in fielding it will be after Jonty Rhodes 💪💪👍.
One of the best fielders
Legend. Remember these games.❤❤❤
Can never definitively say who the best fielder is or was. What we can definitively say is that Jonty is a candidate. Along with Andrew Symonds and Paul Collingwood etc.
Jonty rhodes has been Buster Keaton of cricket
Jonty and jaddu, two of the best fielders of all time.
I.met him face to face so loveable humble and awesome like a best friend that day❤😂
There will be no other jonty rhodes. Amazing athletic skills.
Yeah
Jonty and Ponting, best!
The Jonty dive still give me the chills
🔥
Golden era😢
Yeah
Jonty aaaaaaaaallllllllll the way Love you lots like jelly tots buddy.
Johnty Rhodes is the best fielder ever
He had amazing ability to out think any batsmen. His awareness and speed was second to none. He made POINT HIS POSITION.
Yup
Jonty Rhodes, take me home, to the place
Thank you !
He was the inspiration for all great fielders - Robin Singh, Kaif, Yuvraj.. Kaif probably most closely resembled him - having been picked more for fielding than batting (even though he was a fantastic batsman too).
Yeah
JONTY...Worth his place in the team bc of his fielding alone....but his batting wasn't too shabby either!!!!❤
Exactly
How he caught Parore in the evening at Auckland in 99. Best catch ever.
Yeah
Jonty rodes. ..the all time best fielder in world cricket
Yess
A fitting tribute. Well done.
Thank you so much!
What a great video, well done!
Thanks man😍🏏
Jonty has created a benchmark in fielding. Roshan mahanama from srilanka also one of the best fielder in his time
He was from another level.
Yeah!
Jonty Rhodes infulence transform modern cricket fielding
Exactly
my senior took me to a match in sec12, despite my 101 fever.... i always loved to field at closing positions... took a rhodes type flying catch to win the match.... and my inspiration was Rhodes... as a kid growing up watching Rhodes was true inspiration.. still @ 40, i field better than 20yrs kids..
That's great!!
G. O. A. T
Greatest fielder of all time.
Exactly
Johnty Siddhu
Whose remember the 90's legend Chris Harris? He is also a very excellent fielder at that time.
Neil Johnson and Lance klusener is a complete cricketing allrounder's in a true sense 🏏💯✔️🏏💯✔️
Yeah!
There will always a dispute for who is the best batsmen or bowler or keeper or captain. But when it comes to to fielding, Jonty Rhodes is unanimously and undisputedly considered to be the best. No one can be matched or comparable to Jonty
Exactly 💯
The best ever
Yes
God of fielding = Sir Jonty Rhodes ❤🙌
YESS
in the oxford dictionary next to the word fielding they should just put JONATHAN NIEL RHODES for those that even try to compare any fielder to him are delusional he is the goat period
For hitting the stumps.. Ponting was better. But for diving and catching balls, run outs as a whole.. Jonty was better.
Yes
Now its Jadeja for India
yesss, exactly
Yeah “for india”
The god of fielding ❤❤❤ legend
Exactly
Jonty might be the godfather of fielding; those pin point direct throws, phenomenal diving catches... But I believe Jadeja is a bit more versatile. Jonty is more of a natural; phenomenal reflexes. Think Dhoni level reflexes and Jadeja level flexibility and accuracy.
Keep making videos bro! U are doing well
Thanks man!😍
I'm so biased when it comes to sport, Ponting and Symonds were amazing but Rhodes was just a freak. There will never be another fielder like him, so many off balance stump throw downs. If anything went near him just take the dot ball!
Jonty revolutionized the art of fielding.
Exactly
Only Player people would go to watch cricket just to see jonty rhodes field he is the greatest of all time
Yesss
A poster seen in the stands sums it up so well. "Two thirds of the earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Jonty Rhodes".
Very well said
Till now, his name is used in local fields 'bhai kya fielding karta hai, jhonty rhodes hai kya?''
