  • Vaporwave used to give me 80s and 90s nostalgia in 2016. Now it gives me nostalgia for 2016.

    • I started listen to Vaporwave in 2018 and 2019 so it gives me nostalgia for those years. But I wish I listened to it during 2016 and 2017 since those were the best days of my life and had an 80s phase.

    • Damn, that's so true, specially with games and movies. While people were playing Age of Mitology and Warcraft 3 I was still playing Age of Empires, Warcraft 2 and Diablo 1 and other games that my computer could run. I got late to every cyber-party ever, and to be honest, I don't even regret it most of the time, it felt so good to appreciate things in my shitty computer back then.

    • It's probably because we identify these sounds from a time period that has long passed and we empathetically sentimentalize for the people who lived it. It's like cringing when we watch someone do something awkward, we didn't do anything awkward but we can put ourselves in the shoes of the person who did

  • I remember when this mix had barely any views, and I still clearly remember the very first time listening to this. I was listening to this on the bleachers in my high school gym back in Ohio, just laying and totally vibing out. The fact that I'm having pure nostalgia right now over the very first moment I ever heard this just goes to show the power of nostalgia and vaporwave coming together!!! Whoever is first listening to this mix right now, I hope you can remember your first time listening to this one day! God bless

    • I’ve been a fan of Vaporwave for hmmm, 6 years now? …anyhow, last year I came back to my home, Minnesota, after i spent a summer fighting wildfire in California for the federal government. I came home and me and my boys went up to our buddies cabin and I put this on in the background. I hadn’t listened to vaporwave in about a year at that point and so I went back down the Vaporwave rabbit hole again. And still am on it! Love it! And I also beat Out Run because of this mix.

    • Yep, I remember finding this mix when I was going back to college for the spring quarter in 2017, I listened to it multiple times daily for months. It was my first quarter at the school I had transferred to on the other side of the country from where I grew up. So it was a series of new beginnings for me. This mix brought me so much happiness and comfort during those times and I will always think of it when I listen to it

  • i realized that this was my time - this music, this graphic - this was part of the formula that made me who and what i am today. i was lucky enough to live in this age of cassette tapes, analog telephones with 20 ft cords, 8-bit video games, E.T., Ghostbusters, Goonies, Star Wars at the movie theatre, neon malls, and pretty girls with ponytails wearing acid wash. I can flip thru my photobooks and find this! I can open my old dusty tape cases and find this music! This is the closest thing to time travel I have ever experienced thru a video. See you in the eternal ocean of etheric synth waves .

  • vaporwave brings me back to a real stage of my life, being born 1990: my very early childhood memories of interacting with media, like watching TV very early in the morning. In the early 90's when there was still 80's stuff (shows, soundtracks,...) around and the commercials were still 80's-esque too. I remember watching teleshop commercials of household-tools and some music-CD-collections of 70's and 80's classics. I was about 4 to 6 years old and it fascinated me, watching all these commercials. Vaporwave incorporates the sound and feel of that era (or the era before, which i basically witnessed diffusing with its last cultural attributes being slowly washed out into the later 90's and ultimately disappearing around 2000). i will never forget the feeling of the 90's.

    • Daniel Gibson We don't get sad, we get nostalgic (look up the word). The issue with today is that they are killing languages and compressing communication down to emojis and new-speak so people can not communicate properly and do not know how to express them selves in detail. The result becomes that you think we/people are "sad". We are not sad we are just romanticizing a time that has past, a time where stress and worry was not a everyday battle. A time where you were not buried in responsibilities. It does not mean we hate our lives we just get a pleasant feeling when a familiar sound transports us back to then we were younger. It will happen to you to. It happens to all humans. It's memories, they transcend space and time.

You get all that stress and depression hit harder then ever before. you fall into this deep cycle of listening to this to relieve your emotions and just relax, but then you get hit harder back to reality every time. then you go back to listening because your life is a mixture of failures and sadness. My parents were divorced, the bullying at school got so bad, i had been sexually harassed, i was forced to go live with my mother against my will, all of these - as you can imagine - didn't go well with the already lacking mental health of a 12 year old, hell, I was suicidal even. i never actively tried to commit suicide, but i did do dangerous shit because i didn't care about my life or where it could go but then, i stumbled across this piece of art, i looped it over and over and over, i really couldn't get enough of it while i can't say this was the sole cause of me getting out of my depression, this did help you know how sometimes listening to music while you're walking feels like a euphoric music video, just pure bliss? that was this mix to me i didn't have the feeling of everyone's eyes constantly on me when i listened to this - it temporarily made all of those feelings go away, even for just a second 6 years later, I'm turning 19, I'm alive and in a much better place now despite the concurrent challenges of my life It still feels like a dream when i listen to this, but not a bad one It reminds me everytime how grateful i am to be alive It reminds me how all of these years later, i can still listen to this wonderful mix Friend, even though i'm a complete stranger to you, and you are just one guy who uploaded this mix 7 years back, just know you've really captured the hearts and nostalgia of everyone who listened to this mix. Thank you

I have a job opportunity that can possibly turn into a career there too. I don't have any solid plans beyond chasing my dream and doing everything I can to control the parts of my life that are under my control. Some say it's reckless, some say it's bound to fail but something deep inside me is telling me not to back out of this opportunity. Every fiber of my body says this is a risk and might be hard but it's worth taking. I'm going to do it. See you all on the other side.

  • Music like this really reminds me of my earlier days back when I was living with my mother. I lived in a less than decent 'trailer' (It's actually just a small house) that looked like it was built with rotted wood and those weird flimsy wavy looking sheets of aluminum or something. Every house on the block looked decent compared to our house. I stayed there a lot before I was taken into foster care. In fact, I barely even knew my grandparents despite me living with them for the first few years of my life. I was around 4 or 5 years old when I was taken there. It feels like I have been there for longer than I actually was. I didn't know what the internet was and I didn't know anything about the new stuff at the time. We relied on one of those boxy A/C thingies that stuck out the window. Our TV was pretty ancient and we didn't have cable so we used DVDs most of the time. Because my mother didn't have a stable job, we relied on food stamps, but even then I wasn't fed much. I always ate whatever was already made. I never stuck to life outside of that small house. I always remember I would go to the Valero that our house was just behind and my mom would just do her own thing while I just wandered around. I was lucky to get ice cream from the freezer just beside the slot machines, which my mom would sometimes spend time on every few trips. We went everywhere whether it came to the local food town or some apartment complex. I always seem to remember the nights I would spend out and about because of my mother or at home. It was probably because of the constant arguing between my mother and some guy she claimed she was in love with. Not only that, It was the time where they smoked and had friends over and got high. Of course, I never understood what they were doing because I was just only a kid. Sometimes I'd stay up till 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning because I couldn't sleep or some fight caused by my mother and her boyfriend that scared me and my brother half to death. I remember once one of her boyfriends got violent towards her. It ended up with one of them arrested after what felt like hours of them fighting. There were good sides to living there though. I had a bunch of toys and did whatever I pleased. I'm 14 now and it feels like it's been an eon since I've ever got to experience life there. Not that I want to, but there were some sweet memories of being in that house that I would love to relive. Whether it be dancing my heart out with people or just having some peace and quiet. Back then, I didn't have much of a connection to reality as I do now. I miss not being connected. I miss not worrying about my looks or what I did. I miss not understanding the truth of my mother and her friends and how she acted. It's something I wish to go back to. Despite those downs that I dwell on though, I always look up at what good things I have now. I'm under the care of my grandparents who love me very much and always work to make this household perfect for all of us, I own a chihuahua that I love very much, I own a bunch of electronics that allow me to pursue my hobby of art, and I'm living a stable life. Even if the present doesn't contain everything that I want, I'm still grateful. I've strayed far from the music in this video, despite it pushing me to write this. My advice is to be grateful for all the good you have (Including this video, of course), and never let your mistakes, emotions, or past get you down. Enjoy the music.
