He just knows he has a phenomenal shot, so if he has a look, in most cases the best chance for his team to get a goal is if he lets it fly. Different players, different eras, both great. What amazes about Ovechkin is obviously the shot and goals but also his durability. Ovi has always played a physical game and he rarely gets hurt. He is basically a linebacker on skates.

And 24 of the top 25 highest goals per season among NHL players were before the 2000's. Guess who cracked the top 25 from 2000 and after...? Alex Ovechkin! Scoring was DEFINITELY easier back then, than today! Ovechkin is the GOAT of goal scoring!

@@kovrikl Единственной проблемой может стать сам Ови. Он уже сказал Леонсису и команде, что, не смотря на важность рекорда, он не собирается и не будет докатывать его в 3-4 звене или только на большинствах, что хочет приносить реальную пользу команде, а не быть пятым колесом и обузой. И что как только он не сможет эту пользу приносить - он уйдет. Так что единственное, что может помешать, - это травмы или возраст, который неожиданно накатит на него. Но пока не похоже, что такое произойдет в ближайшие 2-3года.

In the 80s, the performance per match ranged from 7 to 8 goals, and the most “fun” season was the 1981/82 championship - 8.03 goals (it was in that year that Gretzky set an all-time record - 92 goals in the regular season). In the first half of the 90s, the performance in the NHL was slowly declining (with the exception of the 1992/93 championship), and in the 1996/97 season there was a sharp decrease in this indicator - to 5.83 goals per game. In the 2003/04 regular season, the performance dropped to a terrible 5.14 goals. This may be due to increased competition in the NHL. After the collapse of the USSR, many hockey players who played in the countries of the Warsaw Pact moved to play in the NHL. The best players on the planet are playing in North America right now. During the Gretzky era, there were almost no Europeans in the NHL. In the 1983/84 season. Only 50 foreigners played in the NHL. Gordie Howe has been my all time great since back in the 60's and watching him play at Olympia stadium in Detroit. But there is no better player I'd rather see move past Gordie other than Alex Ovechkin. A tremendous and domineering hockey player whose talents are out of this world. I wish Gordie could have been there for #802.

I don't care if its history. That is the epitome of class and sportsmanship. The business and showbiz "entertainment" of the NHL makes me not want to watch anymore. Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with the game to begin with.

He's 37, hasn't slowed down at all, really, and has been healthy his entire career. If he continues the way he has, he's going to beat Gretzky. And he's the type of player to not retire until he does. He'll be like Jagr and Chara. Playing until he absolutely can't.

Политика и деньги у американцев по особому связаны)) Но НХЛ с приходом профи со всего мира и изменением правил стала очень сложной лигой. И для подержания интереса тут нужны новые рекорды, новые звезды и т.п. Я даже думаю, что если до 40 лет не дойдет до рекорда по здоровью, то его тупо до 45 подпишут и будут выпускать в большинстве на гол. Этот и следующий сезоны покажут, насколько 900 реально

Gordie Howe also had 174 goals in the WHA, so actually 975 pro goals of which only 801 occured in the NHL. The WHA and the NHL merged in 1979. The current NHL Stanley Cup Champions was originally a WHA team; the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise...
