Horizontal bullet spread actually may have sense if a special choke muzzle is attached on shotgun barrel. Anyways, nice video! I liked it!

A shotgun in real life can still be lethal from as far as 50-70 meters. Depending on the type of ammunition (buckshot) and choke. Of course, slug shot could have even better range I think. So San Andreas' shotgun range maybe was not that illogical.

8:54 Remember that there are 3 shotguns in GTA Vice City and each one has an advantage. The Stubby Shotgun has higher damage but shorter range, the Pump Shotgun has longer range and lower damage, and the SPAS-12 has a higher rate of fire.

For any of y'all struggling with the "100% accuracy" gold medal requirement on missions: _use the pump shotgun._ Even if just one pellet connects the shot won't count as a miss, and the pump action is slow enough that you're unable to spam shots and potentially miss. And it has plenty of firepower to get thru the singleplayer missions.
The ridiculous part about it,i'm still remember i get 200% accuracy objective when i play the ps3 version

About 6:53 There's a unique thing about GTA IV, when you shoot a vehicle's front with shotgun it'll take 7 shots to explode it. But when you hit the area which is a little bit up to the rear tires, it'll take 2-3 shots to explode it.

When I think the delay in the sixth edition of the game series depends on the reviews and the exact details you and your kind of legends have provided, it's amazing as always my friend.
The horizontal spread of GTA III could be explained by there being a choke on the shotgun. A choke is a device put on the muzzle (the front) of a shotgun that changes the spread of the shotgun.
The only shotgun I hate the most is the one from GTA III because when you complete all of Salvatore's missions. His goons will be carrying it to kill you if you go to their territory. And it's impossible to do side-missions if it take place there.
The infamous "Saint Mark" hood.
Mafia hoods become literally un-traversable. You _need_ a mod that takes away those shotguns.
Another tip there's cheat (I like dressing up ) keep typing the cheat until u get green shirt and hat guy character after that enemy gangs won't hit you

I'm guessing that GTA III and VC shotguns used Duckbill muzzle while SA, IV and V used Choke muzzle Duckbill muzzle is more on horizontal spread while Choke is more on increasing the range just like you pressing your thumb on water hose, causing a smaller volume of water coming out with increased range

I was thinking that too, but there's clearly no muzzle attachment on the shotguns. I think Enigma's right either way, it's not "realistic" per criteria of the video.
i think another big part is coding of the time only allowing for it to have a single axis of spread. but i like the fact you brought up different attachments that create this effect realistically.
i think it has to do with the aiming system in vice city and 3, they arent as fluid and free as san andreas and later. Yes though a duckbill muzzle is a possibility
There are different kinds of chokes for Shotgun in real life. Example : Horizontal Chokes, Vertical choke etc.
I think it was done that way for the auto-aim mechanic on primitive consoles. Gameplay over realism.

Love your vids, just one thing: IIRC, the stubby shotgun from GTA VC is the one with the same parameters (power/range) as the GTA3 one, whereas the pump and auto shotguns have greater range but less power. My guess is that they threw the GTA3 shotgun stats on the VC stubby shotgun and came up with new parameters for the other two.

In 4 and 5 (5 especially) any gun's destructive power depends on where you shoot. And the heavy shotgun is EXTREMELY effective against vehicles. Aim for the left rear wheel ;-)

Now, there is a real life shotgun attachment that is simply called a "duckbill" which supposedly is designed to spread the pellets in a horizontal pattern in front of you. I think that is what the older GTA games are going with.
