  • Just bought a f31 335d touring and i love it, heads up display, Harman sound system electric tailgate, blue Brembo callipers, reverse camera, front sensors in silver 67 plate. Only 0.2 seconds slower than my RS4 Avant from 0 to 60. 0 to 60 on the BM is 4.8 seconds.

  • If anyone is thinking about buying one of these you won’t be disappointed. A low mileage one will hold its value very well and make sure you get adaptive Msport suspension spec.

  • Great video JJ and having a 2017 F30 335D myself I can endorse most of the elements you have touched on but there are least two versions of the iDrive and the basic one has a much smaller screen. I would say that the options list is huge on these but in my humble opinion adaptive dampers are a must as the stock springs on the xdrive are a bit soft. Ride is hugely improved with the adaptive setup and definitely get rid of the run flats in favour of MPS4's which improve comfort and grip enormously. One huge thing with these is changing engine oil and filter which should be done much more often that recommended by BMW's 18,000 mile suggestion. I would say no more than 10,000.

    @mlgboy1@mlgboy1 Жыл бұрын
    • Great information, thanks Mark. Fully agree on servicing them more often than BMW recommend - seems madness to do them at 18,000 miles. Also, excellent shout on the MPS4s.

    • @@JJonCars Well, Audi is having issues at the moment unfortunately. Away being fixed just now. It's getting old now and needs more attention and time than I have to give it. Plenty of life left in it though so planning to sell it. It's a beautiful car and I will miss it. Celica. What can I say. 25 years old and still going strong. It too is away having a few bits done to it just now but it'll be back soon.

      @markb7346@markb7346 Жыл бұрын
    • @@markb7346 Any thoughts on what's next after the Audi? Can't go wrong with Toyota reliability, and I always liked those Celicas :)

      @JJonCars@JJonCars Жыл бұрын
    • @@JJonCars That's a tricky one. First question, will car prices come back down to previously normal levels? Audi has increased in value by 66% in the past two years so now is a good time to sell but a bad time to put a load of extra money into something special. I was looking at Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 diesel auto Premium. About £7.5k for a 2011 with 75k miles. Audi is worth about £5k so probably best for me personally at the moment to stay around the £5k level until prices readjust. So to get the Hyundai, I'd have to add £2.5k. So, I've got a Peugeot 3008 2.0 Hdi 11 reg 54k miles £5k. It'll do for a couple of years until prices sort themselves out if they're going to. Thinking it would be best for me to stick to one special car, the Celica as my main car and have a less special but perfectly adequate and functional reserve car. Ideal for sharing with my partner when necessary, for transporting the dog, towing the trailer etc. I do about 15k miles a year so thinking to split that between the Celica and 3008, 7.5k miles in each. This will let me use the Celica more which I absolutely love. Celica only has 117k miles on it so the engine has a lot of life left in it. Clutch and gearbox are very worn but the clutch isn't slipping yet. Thinking to maybe get the Celica gearbox refurbished and fit a new clutch and all the other replaceable bits between the engine and gearbox replaced. That should transform the driveability. If I'm using the car more then I'll be more inclined to get it done. Also, need to get the wheels refurbished and the rear spoiler, door handles and mirrors re-painted. Looking at getting it wax oiled too. After all that, Celica should be amazing and ready to continue for another 100k miles. What do you think?

      @markb7346@markb7346 Жыл бұрын
    • @@markb7346 I honestly think you've got the right approach there Mark! Having the Peugeot as the sensible runaround and the Celica as the fun car makes sense. You can't drive two cars at once so it makes sense for them to be quite different models. I think eventually prices will come down, but there's almost no point considering that now - personally if I were to be buying another car I wouldn't let it put me off. Though I am sad that I can't go buying £500 KZhead project cars now, as you can't get anything for that money. I'll have to stick to reviews haha. Look forward to hearing the progress on the Celica, it sounds like a car worth spending the money on. I do the same with the CLK, making sure it has everything it needs :)

  • Nice review of the popular estate car out there as I’m looking at 2015 onwards 320d tourer n interesting to see comparisons to the 330d…is the road tax n fuel costs that much higher?? As the police use them then they must be good!! Liked n subbed!!

    @gord8743@gord8743 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks Gord! For the 320d efficient dynamics models the road tax is £20 a year, but other 320d models are very similar to 330d for road tax - something like £130 a year. But if you get any car that was sold new after April 2017 the road tax is the same flat rate so makes no difference. Fuel costs, the 320d will be a fair bit better on fuel, so I'd say it depends how many miles a year you do?

  • Hello! The biggest problems are with the crankshaft's bearings They are undersized, so beside the changing intervall of 30K kilometers, you have to change the bearings too at about 200 K, and at about 250-300K the CP4 high pressure diesel pump too. (I have changed the timing chaing, the bearings and the CP4 pump for a "precausion". :) If your bearings or timing chain, or the CP4 collapse, your wallet collapse to... :( I hope my piezzo injectors will work for a long time, not only for 300K kilometers.

Tbh though I'm not that clued up on the reliability differences between the two, but the N57 is a more modern and refined engine. Not one problem has it given me, it’s been totally reliable (it as had 2 EGR cooler recalls to be fair) still drives as well as it ever did, averages 38/40mpg towards 50 on a run, plenty of space for the family & goes like the clappers. My advice would be not to scrimp on the maintenance, change the oil at least annually, use premium fuel & they’ll run & run. I’ve absolutely no intention of changing it anytime soon, especially with all this EV nonsense being shoved down our throats, I’ll keep what I’ve got.

    • Correct - the 330i was a 2.0 4 cylinder (as was the 328i).

  • Are these cars clumsy ? Even with M package. Bout to buy one. I am a little concerned with its power also.

    • Not sure what you mean by clumsy :) Concerned about having too much, or not enough power?

    • @@JJonCars no, just a lot of body roll ? And unresponsive due to the electric steering ?

    • @@johnjohnson1997 yeah, to be fair the steering I'm not as big a fan of as old hydraulic, but I realised after the review that it does weight up in sport mode. Didn't notice much body roll

  • New version has messed up the steering feel, and has electronics that steer or brake the car into unnecessary dangerous situations. Since covid, the service costs have doubled. Very expensive to maintain it now. If running costs are so high you might aswell buy the D3 Alpina version, 40hp more 170mph+ and much beter handling and ride.

  • I had a 318 many years ago. Nice car but the seats were rubbish! Killed my back on long journeys. Plus servicing was a tad on the high side. Having said that, when I come to change my Tiguan I may have a butchers at them. 👍

    • Along with lots of other equipment, they definitely skimp on the seats too, so maybe they were the entry level seats. You could probably pay a good chunk of money for adjustable seats. A shame as you'd hope a BMW would be a good long distance car!
