For those who are interested in how Patong Beach looked like in May 1988. They were just "building" the beach road and Bangla Road. I believe we did stay at the Sea View Hotel, facing the sea for some150 Baht/night.

Great vid thanks. I was there in 1984 it was paradise bangla had about 15 bars it was the best place to be on the planet . Travelled in Thailand for 36 years love the country and the thai people, but it will never be as good as the early 80s.

My 1st trip to PB was in April/May '88 and it was fuggin paradise.Dooley's Bar, the Expat bar & hotel. I stayed at Norwegian Bungalow's (long since gone) @ 200 Baht a night with ceiling fan.What else?The Kangaroo bar, Ned Kelly's,Banana Disco, The Paradise Bar near the beach.beach chairs 20 baht,bar fines 100 baht,The insane Hard Rock cafe.Great friends were made.Kloster beer 50 baht most bars w/ "condom" to keep the beer cool.Everything cheap and primitive.All developed to hell now.Too bad.

- About April 1989 was my first time there and I thought I'de found paradise. Stayed in the shamrock park inn. So many wonderful memories from that time

- It's an absolute hell hole now, 50% Russians and massively over developed, stinks of sewage 24/7.

I was there August 1983, and none of this was there. Only a few hotels and open beach bars. We were like the second ship to have Liberty at Patong.

- The Chinese have Cambodia. Myanmar is many years away from anything decent. I travel these places.
