  • To this day one of the best soundtracks ever.

  • One of my all time favorite games out there. As you start off exploring, fighting the each Colossus with some heroic, valorous music. The last Colossus hits you different. It's an immobile one that stands before you. As you finally get on top of it's head. You realize that It's been able to see the beam of lights appearing from the previous fallen Colossi far out into the distance, one by one lighting up. Always worth recommending this game to anyone if they get the chance.

  • Shadow of the Colossus is one these stories where morality is so blurred and wondering if everything if we are doing is even worth it. I recall this song plays also AFTER you lose your dear horse, Agro and confront the last colossus. *P.S:* Stultifera navis - Golden Age Will Return Again from Arknights. Not exactly full song, but I'm curious about your take on this shanty.

  • This piece is remarkable in how short and effective it is. The context for when this plays is not just the colossus the player is fighting, but also in recent events that the main character has just experienced as well as what lies just ahead. It's an acknowledgement of that lingering feeling you might have had about the nature of the task. I feel as though words couldn't do it justice, so suffice to say that the entire body of context sets this encounter up to be very, VERY emotionally charged. Thanks again for covering this!

  • Ah Malus... felt like a real emotional fight after what happened just before this plays... even tho Malus had zero part in what made it sad XD

  • You're right. This song is a lament, more for the collossi and even more for the invested player. Sad, haunting and unsettling when playing(I was 17 when I played this first time) for the first time.

  • Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games of all time. It's one of the first times that I truly felt a sense of regret with every 'enemy' I killed. The music especially transports this feeling that what you're doing is wrong. Most colossi are introduced with beautiful, regal and majestic themes, and though you get a heroic and triumphant change when you find a way to challenge them, the ultimate moment of the kill has none of that. It's sad, mournful and makes you feel like something important was lost. I have many favorites on this whole soundtrack, the Prologue, The Opened Way, Swift Horse, The Farthest Land, The Sunlit Earth and of course, this theme of the last colossus.

  • Hearing organs in video game music is always so cool because they usually represent something somber or corrupted. There's a fantastic video by the channel Sideways talking about why organs sound creepy and I think it 100% applies here and in other songs like Sullied Grace from Kirby: Triple Deluxe (Side note: maybe try some Kirby music? It tends to be very cheerful but boss themes especially will go surprisingly hard)

  • There's something captivating about Colossus. Perhaps their size or greatness. To me this music feels like it tells the story of a resting Colossi (??) and later, atfer a short pause, slowly rises one more time, now towering over us all. Also Buff Pikachu XD

  • Oh man I always wanted to play this game. Its something so simple but awesome I love the idea behind it. Funny thing about organs. I remember as a kid watching pirates of the caribbean and loving davy jones' theme. And then this one time when in school we went into church, our music teacher went to go play on the organ and was blown away by it but also couldnt help but imagine her as davy jones during that moment lol.

  • This is the ost that made me want to compose for games. I've always said this game itself is a symphony. From the quiet (environmental sounds only, no music) exploration, to these foreboding pieces that tell you you're getting close to a colossus, to the actual engagement of said colossus, to the climactic action of climbing it, and ultimately the somber ending after it falls. All different movements in this symphonic masterpiece of a game.

  • The first time I played the game I didn't fully appreciate this song at the final colossus. I thought it was a weakness that the song was so slow and subdued. Looking back on it I think it's perfect. How solemn and reverent it sounds, but also feels like tragedy and inevitability.

  • Thinking about the organ in this track Koh Otani may not have explicitly intended it, but I think the use of organ as well as bells (like church bells) you hear throughout the game evokes a reverent or religious feeling. Two scenes where organ is very prominent is when you hear from Dormin, a dark deity, at the beginning and end of the game. And maybe it's no coincidence that a pipe organ is the largest musical instrument, often built in places designed to make you feel small.

A lot of games have incredible music like Elden Ring or Nier, but to me none of those tracks sound as 'Timeless' as the Shadow of Colossus tracks. Keep up the great work bro, I'm enjoying your videos a LOT. Also, my dad built 2 organs himself so i can't get away from it.
