  • As a skater, having a longer break beforeWorlds means time to rest and get healthy rather than churning out performance after performance. The stuff they are doing is massively dangerous and as an athlete, I always appreciated time to regroup and get healthy. The comments about Ilia being too technical are ignorant. He is only 19. Nathan Chen did the same thing and over time, grew as an artist. I thought the performances were incredibly uplifting and Ilia’s programming was absolutely mesmerizing.

  • I think Kaori is the best skater in the women’s event, but Loena’s programs are so much more entertaining it’s hard for me not to root for her. I have a feeling Ilia will win the men’s event because of how much his PCS and GOE increased between worlds last year and the GPF this year. I don’t really think this increase is fully deserved though. He’s improved but no where near the amount his scores suggest. I’ve never really enjoyed his programs besides the 4A.

    • Jonathan's computer microphone (rather than his usual microphone) was likely selected. The computer can sometimes default to this, and you have to go back and "select" the correct mic. That's what it sounds like when one guest has RICH volume (Dave) and one guest sounds like they are speaking from the other side of the room (Jon). As someone who has podcasted for years, I can grant that it's not intuitive to check the other guests levels, but the host of the show needs to do that before the show starts being recorded. And the co-host needs to make sure a) the correct mic is selected and b) if that;'s not the problem, that his "input/output" volume needs to be much higher if the mic isn't directly in front of him. I'm sure they'll get it worked out.

  • Welp, Worlds has concluded for the 2024 ladies, and perhaps some people can start taking off their rose colored glasses -as it pertains to Amber Glenn. Big jumps and speed is a terribly boring combination, when artistry is practically non existent. I’ll never understand why the American crowd at 2024 Nats was so excited to back a skater who’s not even a little bit close to being the complete skating package. About Amber, I don’t care if she’s popular on Instagram, I don’t care about her sexuality choices (or whatever alphabet letter flag she wraps herself in). The Americans have had too many blonde power jumpers over so many years now, that it’s really boring. To be fair the non American skaters (power jumping/speed minus artistry) who have been winning everything since the Russians were banned, ,make watching figure skating feel more like a chore. Maybe now the only American figure skater with heavenly artistic talent, will get the respect she deserves. She just won the 2024 Worlds silver medal (deservedly so), she’s 17 yrs old, and deserves a lot more respect from those that were happy (at 2024 Nats), to see her crown go to Amber. Well, there’s no accounting for taste. Congratulations, to Isabeau. You may had to endure some physical growing pains, mental pains too at 2024 Nats, but you’ve since proven to the world that you are the best American figure skater, and you’ve proven yourself to thousands of armchair critics. Bravo! 🌹

  • Spare me the handwringing and whining from people that think Ilia gets overscored PCS… by 2022 Kagiyama already had practically the same PCS as Nathan Chen to like almos 9.5’s… And what is Ilia competing against, one thing is Cha or Uno who have actual personal styles but it’s lame and crazy to be annoyed by Ilia’s performances and be clapping like seals for Adam’s pantomiming to sound effect gimmicks and Kagiyama’s Imagine Dragons and that recycled Free Program music. Hope SLBourne gave him a discount bc even her can’t make that stuff interesting. Also, hope Chock and Bates have another fall but get a WR 🥇 regardless, whatever it takes to get ice dance kicked off from the Olympics 🤌🤞

    • And Yuma and Nathan were both way overscored. They are not Jason Brown, Lambiel. Buttle or Chan. They are great technicians and decent skaters but it is ridiculous the overscoring technicians get.

    • I disagree, we get to see quality skating without the "inflation", "technique issues (pre-rotation, and all toe jumps being "loops") and "doping". I think we've got the most interesting competitions now, we get to see real technique (Levito excluded, her jump technique is painful to watch), and great choreography instead of using the same choreography for 5 or 6 programs without changing anything (Tuktamysheva - albeit, she is my favourite Russian skater, by a long long way).
