  • So amazing to be watching this go through all its phases (so far). Getting to see it start from just a fissure, and the watching how it keeps building up structures. Don't usually get to see these things in the making 😊❤

  • The subsequent episode began at 09:19:10, but at 09:20:04, a new vent opened in the crater wall, and the lava fountains from the central vent then did not get significantly higher than the crater rim. So it seems that the new vent allows the pressure to be released continuously. Perhaps the violence of this event led to the formation of the new opening. It is really amazing to watch this evolution.

  • In 1783 another fissure volcano on Iceland called Laki erupted. It was shooting lava fountains as high as 1,400m. This eruption was so large that it altered weather pasterns all over the globe, causing famines in Europe, Northen Africa, and even India. The Mississippi river froze as far south as New Orleans, and many historians credit that volcano and the resultant famine as a key component to the start of the French Revolution.

I've heard estimates of the rim to be 200 meters. That would make this display at least 500 meters ( or about 1650 feet) high.
