Doja Cat opens up to Ebro in a vulnerable interview about her experience becoming one of the world’s most famous artists, building a fanbase, and navigating it all while continuing to create new music, visuals, and live performances.
On her latest album, ’Scarlet’, Doja Cat solidifies herself as not just a pop star but also a talented rapper-something fans of her early work were already aware of. Doja Cat also shares with Ebro details about her life growing up, what inspires her creativity, and even how hypnotherapy helped her overcome nicotine addiction.

She comes off to me as someone who just wants to be creative. She dosnt want to be an idol, or desired, she just wants to creative and share.
And that will automatically turn her into an Idol because a lot of people will look up to her. Specially when she is following her heart and its callings. I love this girl's energy and creativity.
That’s what most artists want they’re just too scared to stand against the machine
Yeah. Uh huh lmao
11:47
She did mention that went something like - She use her face as a canvas and puts on some make-up not to look good but to be artistic and creative. That was hot and she's hot!
It's so rare to see an artist call out social media fans like this. So many artists let these fanatics disrespect and attack others and never try to reign them in because they feel they will lose support. Doja does not cater to fanatics. She is secure and knows real fans will respect her and not treat other women this way. This girl is a REAL Person.
She literally caters to fanatics! She talks about comments and haters ALL THE TIME. She talks about this narrative for the ENTIRE interview. “People said” “the comments are going to say” she’s constantly addressing them while claiming she’s not. Constantly. It’s annoying!
That's not what catering to fanatics mean. She is speaking about online culture which is becoming more and more destructive. If you don't get that it's a you problem.@@evanliveshere

This interview made me love her even more! It also reminds me of what Zendaya said in an interview one time "I stepped away from music and focused more on acting because fans latch onto a character, whereas if you make music it's all you all the time, and people expect and dissect so much more of your personal life through every lyric" She doesn't owe anyone any explanation!! Appreciate her art, or don't. 🤷🏻♀️
I love how she speaks. Doja actually sounds sensible, educated and down to earth and not like these other celebrities that are on their high horse. I like how her online troll persona she presents is different from her interviews. You can see the professionalism. She just wants to make music and be free of constraints.

Is anyone else obsessed with her voice? ugh i love it
No
It sends me to orbit every time 😍 she's lovely

This is exactly why I never gaf about the negative things people say about her. REAL artists that actually draw, paint, etc are always thinking outside the box. Just like he said, “It’s ART”.
I feel the same about politicians. People get too caught up in their personal life.
You better care about following this wide male skull
Go take an anatomy class of male and female
I'm so tired of people saying that she's changed because when I watch any interview or IG live of her I see the same personality, sense of humor, mannerisms that she's always had she's unapologetically herself and I love that
“Fans” got mad when she called them out for their invasive and inappropriate attitudes, then they started escalating it from there. I love that she stands up for herself but also has fun with it. Real fans know whats up❤
Exactly
I think most people can’t separate social media from real life lol she can portray whatever she wants on socials and really be her true self in real life!
“She’s changed” is a lazy way of saying “she doesn’t fit into my personal standards anymore so she’s doing something wrong”. It betrays the kind of person who wants to control everyone else’s reality because they can’t control their own.
She’s always been random I been listening since no police but I am not a fan of her personality I don’t care what she does on her personal life I only care about the music just here for the beats 😂
I don’t even want her to open up honestly. People don’t deserve her, and I would never want to see her insecurities to be exploited. She’s a human being at the end of the day and you can’t give all of yourself to the world cuz you won’t have anything left. I just want to listen to her music and support her as a fan, I’m not her friend and that’s okay.
Exactly, I love seeing the art she does show us and that should be enough for us

This interview was so vulnerable, good for her. That takes a lot of courage.
Celebrities don't owe us anything. Good for her for standing up for herself and hopefully starting to shift that culture.
well, yes, they owe us their money and everything that is good about it, celebrity, fame, the possibility to keep on doing their craft and if they want stop and not work for the rest of their life. don't be an 1d10t simp. have a little rational thinking.

she’s so misunderstood by so many people and it’s unfortunate. she doesn’t hate her fans, she’s not a satanist, and she’s not trying to be offensive on purpose at ALL. she’s just a very creative and talented person that likes to joke around and be herself. i don’t get why that’s so hard to understand
I'm old enough to remember Madonna going through a similar situation. The media loved to hate Madonna.
However, the devil she disguised herself as in the music video was bizarre and disgusting.

Last night was my first time ever seeing Doja live.. I left speechless. I saw Britney Spears live at her peak. I’ve seen Beyoncé multiple times- (never thought anyone would outperform her). The fact that this interview REALLY shows Doja Cat as a MUSICAL ARTIST like, she is an artist. She is really her for the music specifically. Like, whatever to social media -- she really cares about the music, sound, art, visual, and all that. This is SPECIALIZED
It's crazy that Doja's dad, through the film Sarafina, is an icon to so many Africans. He really stood out in a film that so many of us watched repeatedly in the early 2000s...and "Crocodile's" daughter is now one of the most talented musicians of our times? Wow! I love this makeup look on her with the auburn hair, hair or no hair she’s still beautiful
I really like this interviewer because he doesn’t try to make Doja look bad he really tries to justify what people assume about her and i can see that it changed many opinions based on this comment section.
Been a fan since I saw “Go to town” when it came out and I have loved her ever since, no matter what she’s done. I see her being fully herself all along thru the rollercoaster of fame and I absolutely respect and appreciate that. And that’s what’s an actual fan does.
"I an way too f*cking famous and I'm doing what I can to separate myself from what I built." Incredible. More celebs should feel that way. She's not saving the world nor does she have any desire too. I'm glad she isn't looking to people please and explain. She also isn't looking to be worshipped. She just wants to make music and put on a good show and from videos I've seen she has done her job.
just because she sits for an interview doesn't mean she really says anything to explain anything- a bunch of empty answers that doesn't mean she's opened up or became vulnerable, honestly borderline gaslighting and for some of you that say celebrities don't owe us anything, not if they care to have fans- as many as naive and sheep there is luckily for some, no matter what they'll keep a fanbase regardless,
This made me really understand @DojaCat on a level that social media didnt allow alot of people to see. Im glad she was candid and honest and she is SUCH A GIFT and creative person! Real ARTIST REAL ART!!!!

True Artist that is totally free in her expression . Her music isn’t a mess either she understands melody better than most .
she’s done the most boss move any artist would wish to be able to. she set a boundary over her personal life and the fake para social relationships on social media because it’s just extremely toxic and unnecessary, so now she can be free and create her art without having to put any expectations on herself. nothing you people say could ever make me hate her because she’s the realest. love you doja
The way she went hard to try and alienate every single fan base and released a solo album thinking it was going to tank and being okay with that is iconic. This girl is unique and stands in her truth. People do not get a say in her private life.
she couldve set that boundary without blocking her predatory boyfriends victims or promoting a ne0 n4zi by wearing his merch on her instagram with well over 20 million followers. this woman is stuck in a victim mentality and gaslights people by pushing this whole parasocial narrative when in reality, all they want her to do is take accountability. she has a vast reach and her demographic is mostly young people with accordingly malleable brains, so yes, it absolutely does require her to explain herself. instead, she plays dumb and continues to rage bait for attention with no care for the moral implications of her actions. and you all fall for it - every single time

10:25 I think Doja so justified in what she said here. She doesn't have to explain herself to anyone, and the people who actually care already know what her intentions are, anyone who it needs it be explained to probably isn't interested in listening anyway. There are some people who just want something to be angry about.
This is my absolute favorite interview I’ve ever seen her on. I’ve loved her since her hot pink era and been loving her even more since the dawn of the scarlet era where does whatever she wants however she wants and seeing her take the time now to clear up things she didn’t even need to clear up and really get into how her brain works shows how much she cares and how passionate she is about her craft. THIS INTERVIEW is exactly why I love Doja
I never want fame, because of how she described and said " I too F***ing famous" and it's true, I've been a fan of hers since their first album and the her comedy on social media is what I miss most. Many are just no aware of her before the fame, but her comedy was gold and never to be taken serious. The mental capability and the close support she has is fantastic, she is self aware and continues to grow as a human. They are a great human and artist!
i went to her concert in Omaha last week and my biggest regret was not bringing the biggest bouquet of roses for miss doja cat. shes so talented and doesn't deserve all the negativity shes received. album was amazing and watching her perform was pure entertainment and one of the best moments of my life. it was like watching a movie with a happy ending. makes me happy to see that shes opening up more to us. the world is truly lucky to have such a talented beautiful queen making music for us.

I love she choose the path where she is being herself not for the records or the fans. She just want us to enjoy her music, not to being crazy fanatics.

It's good to hear her speak genuinly about herself & the silly things people are saying about her. She is very gifted & I love what she does. ❤
this interview made me love and respect her even more. i appreciate her realness and willingness to share her creativity with us ♥️ supporter for life here

I think she is coming better and better all the time, the more she gets the feeling of freedom, not just pleasing people. I like her voice, her talking voice is also so soothing, she would sound good with a small band, like Amy Winehouse and Sade had, their bands, she can handle the stage alone, her presence is, there is just one of a kind of her. She is so young still she has all the time in the world to do what she wants. She has the perfect voice for jazz music.
Honestly this lady is something else. I appreciate her movements. How conscious she is about public life and how she's one definition of "making the job work for you." No one is perfect and I appreciate that too.
This absolutely was a amazing interview hands down I love how respectful he was towards doja and asked atucal questions bout her art and not tried to get dirt or gossip from doja
Doja is honestly one of the best and most unique musicians around. She deserves the success she's getting!!!
I REALLY thank Doja for this interview, it clarified a lot of important things and hope everybody understands and gets what she says. She is a real one, I love her
Doja sounds like is such a sweet heart with a hard exterior. Just because people like what they do for a living doesn't mean they like having a ton of fans, stalkers, and paparazzi following them around; it doesn't mean they enjoy having every single daily and life decision they make scrutinize and talked about on the news and social media. Let's respect each other's privacy!
I love doja cat for so many reasons. She's professional, immensely popular and very down to earth. Even she doesn't care about the haters, still she called out them but in a different way. That's what clever artist does.
She's so articulate and wise everything people say about her isn't true
I've know Doja since "No Police" and "So High". Since then, every thing about her has always been art and being in a state of not giving a f. Her music was always catchy and her performances were always her giving it her all. She's also always been a trickster and a troll since the beginning of time. Never took anything she said into offense (maybe because I personally have horrible humor as well, lol). It's refreshing to see her open up about these things. Her fans know she loves them and they will keep loving the raw & authentic version of her.
these reason i love her work so much is because no matter what mood im in, i can find one of her songs that fits my vibe at the time bc shes so versatile and great in any style
I was there BEFORE SO HIGH and I will always be here for her and her music I love everything she does. Her sense of hunor 😂 gurl if u dont get it fly away
