    • + Words with silent letters e.g. comb, debt, conscience, handsome. + Different rules for the pronunciation of 'ea' (and any other diphthongs) e.g. leave, break, head, idea, early, tear, heart. + The 'ɜː' sound e.g. worst, heard, first, world, murder (which will also be different in the standard American pronunciation). + Fairy vs. ferry, hairy vs. Harry etc. + Garage, mirage, barrage, ballet, silhouette and other words which came from French. + Words which have the same spelling but are pronounced differently due to being different parts of speech (verb noun) e.g. delegate, graduate. Thank you for all you're doing. Much appreciated. 🥰.

I'm from the southern US and I have a southern accent that I can get rid of or accentuate but that's about it. Thanks so much. One thing though, I agree that the t in potato sounds like a d but we don't pronounce th as a d. It's a tha sound. Thanks again. Excited to see more of you videos. God Bless!!!

  • Unfortunately saying “the British Accent” has its flaw. It’s like saying only one item of food exists in the whole world. The UK possibly has more accent variety than the USA. I’m from the west half of the East Riding of Yorkshire, and I sound rather different! London English is a good benchmark for learning English as it is spoken in the UK, but I’d caution visitors that we don’t all sound like this. However, that said, I’d say our accent density is quite a cornerstone of our culture!
