Sewing is a fun activity that allows you to create unique things with your own hands. However, the sewing process can be difficult and time-consuming. Sometimes you just don’t know how to do this or that operation so that the finished product looks neat.
It’s good when you are trained in tailoring, but if not, you have to guess by trial and error how to lay a line or process a cut... Over time, everything works out and you can
teach sewing tricks to beginners.
I share with you the tricks that I use myself.
1) How to sew a wide elastic band into a cuff:
Sometimes the sleeves or bottom of the legs are gathered into cuffs using elastic. There are different ways to do this, here is one of them.
Take the fabric for the cuff and fold it in the middle. We put an elastic band on top so that one edge is located in the middle of the cuff.
We place the ends of the elastic one on top of the other in the form of a ring and sew a line.
Here's how it works.
Then we fold the fabric - the elastic is inside. Sew, straightening the fabric in a circle.
It turns out that the elastic is stitched into the side seam and is located inside the cuff.
2) How to quickly unscrew a belt or pulley:
Take a strip of fabric of the required width, fold it and stitch it about 10 cm.
Using a pin or a special device, turn the stitched piece inside out. Next, we continue the interrupted line, constantly pulling out the tip.
As a result, the belt is stitched and turned inside out at the same time.
3) In order to sew the lace evenly and without distortions, you must first stitch it from two edges on the front side of the product.
Make a slit on the wrong side of the fabric, turn the edges under and stitch.
4) Many products are processed with binding. How to join the ends to make it unnoticeable.
To do this, we lay the end of the line right up to the beginning of the line.
We fold the ends of the binding at right angles and sew a line diagonally.
We cut off the excess fabric and smooth it out.
5) To ensure that the allowances are the same width when cutting, you need to attach small round magnets to the tip of the scissors, which will regulate the even allowance.
6) You can easily thread a needle using a square sheet of paper folded diagonally with the thread inside.
7) The ideal processed right angle on the fabric can be made as follows. Fold a corner of the fabric diagonally. Then again.
We sew along the folded corner at right angles to the diagonal. We cut off the excess fabric, leaving 0.5 cm from the stitching.
We turn out the corner.
I hope you find these tips helpful and make your sewing process more comfortable and enjoyable.
All the best!
