  • Almost every one uses way too much water! It might be nice while working on your piece, but I guarantee you that they all will end up with cracks and broken off parts when they dry!! All clay shrinks when drying and the water makes the piece not only dry very unevenly, but makes the clay very, very weak! Tip: use as little water as possible and put the finished piece in or under plastic (make sure that air can come in). That way it will dry slower, which prevents it from cracking and makes the clay dry more even throughout the whole piece. Enjoy!

    • @@kiv4692 Probably best take Air Dry Clay. Because waterbased clay is less strong if it is not been fired in a kiln. You CAN use waterbased clay, as long as you are a little more careful. Air Dry Clay is a bit easier for little projects like this. But, it is also more expensive. Good luck with it and remember you really enjoy the creative process!!

    • I'm not easily triggered, like ever, I don't normally need trigger warnings, but that voice came out of nowhere, in the middle of a really relaxing video, and started advocating su***de, body shaming and mental health issues stigmatization in such a powerful passive aggressive manner, that now I know why trigger warnings are needed. I feel like if it triggered me, someone who usually doesn't get fazed, it could really harm people. And I don't care if she thinks that she's funny and quirky, people like this shouldn't be allowed a public platform. Edit: spelling errors

  • Message to all of you looking to get into sculpting: I’m a 17 yr old who understands that buying clay whether that the pure earthen clay or polymer clay and everything in between can be so expensive. I make my own clay from the dirt in my backyard. I can elaborate if someone comments that they want me to, but that’s too much to type right now. All you need is dirt, any kind! Soil, red dirt, brown dirt, mud, anything. And purify it either by using a dry method (physically exhausting, might i add) or the wet way (takes a while but so worth it.) you can make anything and even fire it using a homemade kiln (make sure you read your areas fire/bond fire guidelines). I don’t fire mine but I’ve come up with my unique way of curing the sculptures. It’s really fun and as a Wiccan witch, i feel so connected to both the earth and our Creator. You can also use Crayola air-dry, works well too. But i will forever make my own clay than buy a huge block for like $70 a pop.

  • 2:58 I do that too when making clay pieces and sometimes when I don’t the pieces fall off anyways. It’s easier cause you won’t get paint on paint when painting a part say your doing the cheek which is next to the smile you would probably get cheek color paint on the smile if it’s close.

    • Most of them use crayola air dry clay, I use it to and i highly recomend it! The tools you can get at amazon like a set or just do what i do wich is using things i just have lying around like a box cutter, my fingers and stuff yk, and its smart to use like wax paper under, i use a like mat but i used to use wax paper and it works really well! Tip use some water to smooth out the clay, hope this helped:)

    • Any water based acrylic paint should work, but like the other comment said, brands like apple barrel and decoart work the best :D
