A ~5 minute short documentary about a small group of veterans struggling to preserve an aging World War II era ship ashore Humboldt Bay. The ship can no longer remain at this site once construction begins on the wind energy terminal to be located at the site. Another location to move the ship has not been identified, and would cost an estimated $50,000 or more to move. Re-floating the ship would cost substantially more. If the ship cannot be relocated or refloated, the only alternative will be to tear it apart for its scrap metal value.
Good men Good LUCK !
Excellent work as always. Great job!
Thanks - that was a fun day filming out there with you.
Keep up the good work shipmates! I am crew on your sister ship in Portland OR USS LCI(L)-713. I knew Doc Davis and miss him being gone. You guys have your work cut out for you. The ship looks much better than it did when I visited her while she was still afloat back in May 2014. I remember meeting Leeroy and John was there too. If you guys need something we can do to help just let us know what you need and we may be able to help. I know the work looks so overwhelming but remember that it is like moving a mountain....you start by moving one shovel at a time. Jerry
Hi Jerry - thanks for the words of support! I'd suggest contacting Royal at RoyalBMcc@gmail.com Royal is the Director of this LCI group and would appreciate hearing your encouragement!
Need deep pockets !
They need to get it down to south California. Less rust.
That would help. But they just don't have the funds to move or refloat it. Once construction begins on a wind energy terminal at this site, the ship can no longer remain there.
