3 HRs Watching Airplanes, Aircraft Identification | Plane Spotting Los Angeles International Airport
*** SEE PINNED COMMENTS FOR AIRCRAFT IDENTIFICATION ***
3 hours of watching airplanes landing and taking off at one of the world's busiest airports, Los Angeles International Airport KLAX/LAX. Perfect for relaxation, background noise, an afternoon viewing or however you want to enjoy.
I spend a lot of time and effort getting footage for these videos, documenting this world of flight for future generations of aviation geeks and citizens of this world alike. Why is it important to me?
Aviation itself in its many forms, is a very valuable gift. Travel by flight allows this world to become closer, to learn of each other, to become more profitable not just monetarily but also in knowledge and insight and to use precious time more efficiently as well. Yes, that realization may not be quite so present when standing in a lengthy line at the airport prior to the actual travel experience, but then shame on us as humankind for being so nearsighted and not allocating space, people and resources to give this gift the priority and prominence that would make it truly even more effective. The abilities that aviation allows should be treated as an investment for every community.
Aviation is multi-faceted and various types of aircraft allow for greater flexibility in a variety of situations but airliners tend to grab my attention the most. Certainly, there are other methods to get from place to place but consider how the hundreds and thousands of miles that in history past that were once a great divider and an obstacle to human achievement and connection are now so non-existent that people hardly give it a second thought... this is one of aviation's great gifts to mankind: the ability to cover great distances around the world with incredible speed. With airliners, people go global. How long would it take to travel the same distance through some other slower method?
And so it is a lifeblood of this world so ingrained in the way the world operates that to remove it would effectively cripple the world as we know it and as it has now been built because of it. Flight allows us to explore, to follow dreams, to visit and learn of distant lands, to gain more accurate viewpoints, to vacation far away, to see distant clients, friends, family and relatives, the list goes on and on. It is used by the rich, famous and the unwashed masses alike. It is natural that people either realize the value of it and treat it as special or couldn't care less and take it for granted. In truth, a reality this momentous deserves to be celebrated and so I take the time to document and celebrate it in as many forms as I am able and in as many opportunities as present themselves.
Personally, I find in aviation a best friend and something that has been with me most all of my life. It provides a rhythm of life for me that I have found few other things can provide. So many adventures, advantages and opportunities have come to me because of my interest in flight. Through it I have met many wonderful people which I may not have otherwise. Aviation inspires me to eliminate barriers and set goals in my own life, to dream and be the best I can be. There is always more and more to learn of it and through seeking to understand more of it I have learned how to study and to better myself and to attain knowledge in everything from science to personal discipline. In short, it has become a viewpoint that connects me to the world around me. I echo the words of great aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry who said, “I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things. ”

KZhead was being difficult and wouldn't allow me to post this any other way. Hopefully it's not too hard to navigate. Please let me know if you have any corrections... @@OHAREAVIATION BEAUTIFUL, Jay! Thank you. I'll check the list over carefully on your behalf! Did you use your "eyeball" or the "N-number" to ID the aircraft?
Fell asleep watching Wendover Productions and woke up to this. Can't say I'm surprised, haha.

I find that many who fall asleep watching KZhead wake up to this....
@@OHAREAVIATION LOL
Before 9-11 I used to hang out at the end of the runway off avation blvd. You could literally park 200 feet from a 747 as it hammered down for take off... the rumble of the ground.... the sound ... the smell... great memories
cadillacbluez Thanks 4 watching!
I HAV DONE THE SAME AT LONG BEACH CA. THE GUYS N I WUD WATCH THE AIR FORCE PLANES TAKE OFF B4 WORK. NOW THAT I DONT TRAVEL I KNOW WHAT U MEAN.THE SOUND MAKES ME MISS ALL THE TRAVEL. HAVENT FLOWN IN A LONG TIME. I MIGHT BE SCARED NOW. Maybe someday.
The A340 takeoff into the sunset was gorgeous!
I love filming those types of shots... if only the camera could do it justice. Thanks for watching!
I lived near JFK when I was a kid. This brought back memories. Thank you Jay.😊
Mary Stroughton you’re most welcome! Thanks for watching!
Incredibly good, for so many reasons. Different views, time of day, airside, weather & so on. Just enough of everything! Perfect; absolutely loved every minute of this. Best one I've seen in a long while, & believe me, I watch alot!
Kate fromaust Very happy to hear such a compliment! I do take much time and effort to make these videos and only wish i could do more. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for your introduction in the description. I feel exactly as you do, because we need to appreciate the fact that we're so privileged to be able to travel far and wide today. For those who complain that the noise of airplanes is too much, because they live under a flight path, all I can say is take it or leave it. We all have choices, and if we choose to buy a house in a flight path, we'd better make sure we do our homework before we move in, and make sure we learn about the environment around where a house is located. Sometimes, the price is low, because people kept moving in and out without knowing what to expect before they even moved into the house in the first place. I live under the approach path for PDK Airport, and I love hearing those business jets. I try to guess what type of airplane is flying over me, but I've still got a lot to learn, because there are so many. Thank you for bringing us these marvelous videos! I also can't thank you enough for all the information you include. I miss flying so much, but hopefully, next year, I'll finally get to travel after many years. Keep up the wonderful work! Heather
Heather, Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for watching! Aviation has been a passion of mine for most of my life and I love to share the joy I have for air travel with as many who I can. I wish you safe, wonderful travels in the near future! - Jay
We have to bear in mind something that is a bit of a horror and and the downside of air travel. That is when you look at a map demonstrating the daily flight patterns crisscrossing the United States connecting City to City by using red lines. The United States is almost solid red from the concentration of the red lines and we've had it that way for years. But now we have China and it's emerging middle class of about 300 million that will be tapping into 3 billion + population to turn them into hungry travelers using fossil fuels to fly those Jets two destinations daily. And don't forget about India with their 200 million middle class tapping into their million-and-a-half population doing their damage to the environment after the USA past and present populations have done their damage... I just mentioned only three countries now factory in all the other ones... I think we're toast
That shot of the 747 with the mountain behind it and the orange sky. Wow! What an awesome wallpaper that would be.

Congratulatios again Jay, you certainly do an outstanding job that's highly appreciated for sure
Thanks always, my friend Jorge! I certainly try.
Many thanks for posting this marvelous video, Jay! I can see by the results, you really know what you are doing with regards to the technical and artistic aspects of videography. I am envious of your skills. The amount of personal time involved must have been enormous. And your hints about the filming (despite no film involved!) location are appreciated.
Michael H. Thanks 4 watching! I can’t say the exact location but there are some very good hotels just east of LAX that welcome planespotters. Yes, I took 3 days to film this and then a week to process the video but I’d say it is well worth it.

The push-back sequence starting at 2:14:44 is very interesting! It looks as if the front nose wheel is one of the points of contact. The nose wheel is allowed to rotate while being engaged.

Thanks for posting this. Here in St. Louis prior to 2000 TWA, AA and SW were the major carriers flying in and out of Lambert Intl. After AA bought out TWA (my dad is a retired TWA captain) it's been them and SW mostly as well as some regionals and UPS and Fed Ex. Since 2000 the airport has been a lot quieter. We used to have a lot of international flights when TWA was around. We do get a fair share of military traffic. Boeing F-15's and 18's are built here and Scott Air Force Base is right up the road. The big airports on the east and west coasts, Chicago and Atlanta get all the heavy commercial traffic. Thanks again for posting.
daveinstlouis Thanks for watching! Best of luck to you in St. Louis. 😎👍
This can be very relaxing and therapeutic, much like listening to rain/thunder to relax or sleep.
Perhaps that is why I have so many people say they sleep to it.
Thank you Jay, fir this video the effort you put into it is clear. Loved every minute of it. I could watch again and again! Great to see all the plain ehnthusiastics out there, I am not the only who won’t get tired to watch landing departures
Thanks 4 watch!ng : )

Love seeing our Air New Zealand All Black livery B77W, and that TN A343 taking off into the sunset at 32:23 was stunning
Thanks for watching! I certainly had a great time filming this one and hope to return and make a similar video someday.
Beleza Maravilhoso!!! Diversos aviões pousando e decolando!
Never seen a air New Zealand plane but it looks cool also love the way a380s land
;-D
Proud to call it our national carrier😍🇳🇿
I loved those mountains in the background even more than the planes!
GoldGhost Games And Stuf Mountains + city landscape + planes... can’t go wrong!
I seem to spend more time in the air then on the ground. Also seems to be where i get the best sleep. This is very relaxing and oddly comforting video. Thank you
Thanks for watching!! Seems like this has been the case for many who have watched (and slept) thru this video.
Excellent LAX Plane Spotting. :) Really love the Qantas 787-9 Yam Dreaming arriving from Brisbane.
Thanks for watching, Syed! Gotta agree I really like that one myself.

Los Angeles is such a beautiful city with the mountains in the background.
I much agree! Wish all my planespotting backgrounds were this picturesque. Thanks 4 watch!ng
God bless the pioneers of aviation. While everyone is amazed we got planes up into the sky (as am I!) I'm more amazed at how they figured out how to land them!
The story of human flight is one of the most fascinating to me personally... so many challenges and obstacles have been overcome to make flight as we know it today a reality... Thanks for watching!
I am 83, my flying days are over, except for brooms. I never flew a plane, but flew in one. Now essentially penniless, but apart from various pains of old age and post-accidents, my feistiness and various experiences recognize your aficion, and the greatness of your work, Jay. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and the top of my broom.

Great job. So many different, fascinating airlines and designs to look at. The wild life plane was pretty wild. Like night shots with planes flying directly overhead and watching them land from that perspective.
Thanks for watching!! Sorry it took a while for me to your comment.

Okay now this is really amazing, Jay!! 3 hours filled with stunning airlines and planes filmed by you, wow.!! Lovely stuff! What an awesome spot there, lovely view on the approaches and landings. Really good work man! :)
thanks so much for watching, mylos!! I don't get out too often but when I do I certainly try to make great stuff.
This is just what I was looking for. It is overwhelming. THANK YOU. It's disorienting: it's not slow motion, but there's something slow motion about it. It's such a demonstration of power--the scale of it is so humbling. // Now, I just want to see a video of Fed Ex planes or 1) Fed Ex planes, 2) DHL planes, and 3) UPS planes.
Thanks 4 watch!ng glad you enjoyed it!
The view of the mountains is awesome
Excellent video in all aspects, including the description!!! As simple as that. I particularly love the fact that the registration numbers are clearly visible in the daylight shots. Makes for easier stalking..., I mean tracking the aircraft in the present time. 😁
Xavier Blackman Thanks for watching! Haha yeah, there wasn’t enough room for all of them in the description so i decided to write an essay of a description instead 😆 XD

Wow! The mountains on the back on approach is incredible!!
Eye For Flight Love having an impressive backdrop for filming and LAX certainly has the best I’ve seen. Love those clear days when you can see the hollywood sign.
Really spectacular spotting! Highly enjoyed watching all the different airlines and heavies!
thanks for watch!ng I had a lot of fun making this one.
That Qantas A-380 @ near beginning of video wins the smoothest landing award... kinda like which diver at a diving event didn't make a splash when they enter the water - hardly any friction smoke rose from the landing gear tires as it touched the runway
Thanks for watching!
Great shot of this beauty. Very well done!

I love L.A.X. airport, they got a very nice carpet floor! I remember I layover there with my older sister and our nephew for the first time back in August 2007 when I first visited Boston. Then again I layover in L.A. when I first visited Thailand in May 2018 last year. I had been to California before, I've been visited there in a year of 2007 of June to July. I been to California 3 times (2007, 2012 and 2017). I've been visiting Los Angeles, Long Beach, Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco.

I am from india ..Its always a beautiful sight, have been so interested to watch planes and have amazed over how these big birds fly ! And i was thinking it's bcos i couldn't afford to fly, may be people who travelled in planes would not not feel this way. But only now i have realised there are many people who have flown in flights also share this same interest. Btw this is a very nice video,i have enjoyed every plane in this video. Thanks for the upload. Peace out .🕉️

David Goldstein Many thanks! Lots more planned.
Great video Jay. Amazing view you got as they were landing. It allows you to see the plane in a more cooler way. keep up the good work!!!!! btw, u just earned yourself a subscriber move that 44k somethin up just one more. Blown away by the footage!!! AMAZING!!!! p.s. next time try to get the information for each plane (arriving from or departing to). Great Job!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! I will certainly try to do some longer videos like this in future... unfortunately the amount of editing time it takes to give details for every aircraft in this video would be a little exhausting and I also really don't have that amount of freetime. It would take a few months to put something like that together. but sometime soon I may do it for a shorter video.
Aircraft identification timestamps have been pinned in the comment section. Hope it is helpful! Thanks for your patience.
Thank You This is therapy, I have terrible anxiety flying. I've flown many times before and I still hate it. "Like Floating Giant's"
Thanks for watching! :) I wish you all the very best conquering your fear of flying... it can be disconcerting at first.
I love the video! I go to LAX from Seattle once a year to plane spot and I really enjoyed seeing your vantage points. Quality of the video is excellent as well. I have to ask, are you in a hotel for the shots pointing towards Westchester with the city and mountains in the backround? Thanks for sharing this! - Alan
Alan Pierce Thanks for watching! LAX is one of my favorite places in the world to planespot. I am not going to say the exact location but I can say that the long shots with mountains due indeed face north. There are indeed quite a few good rooftop locations along Century Blvd as well. Choose carefully.
Amazing video. Love it!!!

FINALLY! I made it through 3 hours and 15 minutes’ worth of LAX video, and hated to tear myself away from it. If it wasn’t for these annoying other responsibilities I have in life, I could have easily done it in many fewer sittings. However, I did spend a considerable amount of time attempting to triangulate from where you took many of your shots. It seemed as if you favored the roof of the parking garage next to the Hyatt Regency. But at times, it did appear as if you owned some super-secret James Bond decoder ring to gain access to the top of the old LAX tower. As I view more and more plane-spotting videos, the more I start to notice so many different points of interest apart from the aircraft itself. Especially with 3 hours’ worth of video, I find myself with a page or two of various things I have noticed, but for the sake of your sanity, I’ll throttle my enthusiasm. Another reason I am commenting so late is that it has taken me 3 or 4 editing sessions to keep my comment from getting too out of hand. Possibly you already knew this, but despite the different runway numbers between the north and south sets (6-24 north and 7-25 south), all 4 runways actually are parallel. After a bit of research, I discovered that airports with similar layouts do this deliberately to make airfield operations simpler. It is easier on pilots and traffic controllers to say, “24R” or “25L” than trying to differentiate 4 parallel runways by some other nomenclature. Since you are much more savvy with the commercial aviation industry than me, it appears as if Delta Airlines is defecting from Boeing and now seems to prefer Airbus aircraft apart from the Boeing 737. Is this true, or did Delta merely manage to land a better deal with Airbus at this time and Boeing was not able to offer something better? I have always found it interesting as to why a commercial air carrier prefers one manufacturer over another (apart from the intervention of national politics, maintenance package deals, etc.). As I stated, I have extensively slimmed down all I would really like to comment on so as to keep you from developing a real “I’m going to start shoving sox down this guy’s throat” attitude towards me. If in another video there might come a similar issue, I’ll bring it up at that time. For I truly enjoy your work, and as I have always stated, I am exceptionally thankful that you do take the time to produce the posts you do. Please keep up the great work; I am looking forward to viewing your next video! OH!! I have asked several others who manage to post 2160p resolution videos if there is a trick to doing it, and no one has been able to give me any special insight. However, all of them do state that it takes a long time to upload their videos. What some do, depending on the length of their video is to use a second computer, start their upload, and let it go for as long as necessary until it is complete (up to 24 or so hours for long videos have been reported). So, grab that old R2D2 cyber gizmo out of the closet, dust it off, and set it on the task of uploading your 2160p videos!
I very much love hearing all your thoughts and input on my videos!!! Please never stop. I especially enjoy the feedback and love producing these videos. It really is a shame that I am so busy these days and can't quite be as involved in the KZhead community I love so much as I used to be and was a part of for many years For someone like yourself I can certainly send you the location specifics. I'm guarded of it because I don't want people to spoil the location as other places of mine have been in past but I know you are the sort of person who could truly enjoy it. Delta does seem to like the airbus product a great deal... a holdover from the NWA days... they have a number of A330s as you well know and the A350 training is not too much different from the newer A330s anyway as far as I have heard. This certainly keeps cost down. I do agree that it takes a loooong time to upload these high quality videos. I've been doing some research on my own also. Hopefully with the next upload we will have some solutions. I have been looking into getting that software you mentioned as well.
@C-990 Buff - Thanks for your well thought out and appropriate comment. Probably, also thanks for taking the time to edit it down! I keep restarting it (the video) in the background to keep my VPN connection active. EDIT: Clarification of "it".
C-990 Buff I can't believe anyone actually watched all of this, you to get out more, if you're able to.....
