Hybridation is the biggest threat the balearean goats have. When people moved away from the countryside, they abandoned their domestic herds of goats, and these run up the mountains, mixing with the pure goats that were in Mallorca island since the neolithic times.
In this episode we will share the problematic, what hunters are doing to preserve the species, and other problems that we encounter along the way.

The species is the same (Capra hircus) whether is a Mallorca boc, a domestic goat or a "hybrid" (as it is the same species we cannot really say it is hybridization). The Balearean goat of Mallorca are considered a subspecies (race) of the domestic goat. So the management you are doing is to preserve the phenotypic characteristics of a race variety in a feral introduced domestic animal indeed.

Thank you for sharing this great experience and for your efforts in helping to control the hybridization. In the UK, I understand they are having a similar problem with reds and sika. Reds are native. To save the reds, all the sika and hybrids would need to be removed. Sad that the meat can't be at least shared. Was the decision not to permit sharing based on actual evidence of a problem?

The hame have 600 goat, the others people hunt goat is different lucky me that used meal and milk get permemnt❤
the PRC is a modern great cartridge but this rifle design is just 🤮 for hunting purposes.

Never hunt mother and kids or any pregnant animal, rules for hunting according to my grandfather...
