Roger the genius, Roger the destroyer: always Waters over all. During the 6 gold years (73-79) what PF would have been without Waters? Who could have created those 4 gold LP ? (The Dark, Wish you, Animals and The Wall)
@lolafox18083 жыл бұрын
It was a four-part chemistry not easily defined. I dislike Roger's solo efforts, but like the rest of the member's; and as with the Beatles, PF was truly a product of all five, then four. This particular song is an all time favorite, and influences me to this day. Before I would go out playing live in the last few years, the two live acts I would listen to for inspiration were Type O Negative and early PF, especially Floyd pre-72.. I found both impressive. To be fair, Roger can be brilliant, wrote my favorite song of all, Set the Controls.. which done live back then was an ultimate classic for me...iconic. But Roger is acerbic and satirical, bitter, wounded, and channels these into his work. All perfectly valid. But for me the music must speak louder than words. Cheers

Roger sharing the stage with the guy who replaced him is probably the most diplomatic thing that’s ever happened in music
Two bass player replaced Rogers, Pratt, live, and Tony Levine in the studios!
@@danlevy8134 wait when was Tony Levin working with them????
@@Gumbo72203 Momentary Lapse Of Reason, Session bass. When Endless River came out I read that both that album and the Division Bell had bass collaboration in the studio by Levin, uncredited! Levin is huge! And Guy Pratt is as huge!
sometimes I have the impression that Roger moved on with his life and resentment, meanwhile Gilmour still has a grudge against him
@@igoralencar2494 yes of course, he moved on with his life after being the biggest Ass**le and a musical genius of the group! But without PF he is nothing! On the other hand Gilmour, Mason, and at the time Wright, they continued creating beautiful music!
Nick was always the neutral zone between Roger and David
That´s right, he was the neutral pol of Pink Floyd together with Richard Wright!!!! Bernhard from Germany
@@Bernhardist Well at the risk of starting a flame war, probably less so Richard Wright. It was after all at the behest of Roger that Rick was fired.

When Roger hit that gong and raised him arm, the chills of Pompeii ran up my spine
SAME !!!
Absolutely! It's the same Roger, chills ....
Same.
When it broke, I laughed my ass off lol
@ Trannon Goble "YES! Pompeii is still a favourite!!!"
The moment Roger's mallet broke at 8:02... Priceless!
That was awesome, he lets out an angry "Fu@k!!"
A perfect reprise of what happened during Pink Floyd’s live performance for KQED nearly 50 years apart!
Reminds me of Nick losing a stick during Live at Pompeii and not missing a fucking BEAT! Legend.
Nick casually having a conversation with Roger while keeping a monster beat going👍👍👍
A true professional!
@@camillazapolsky8940 : unlike Roger

I’m so jealous!
Jeaulous😡😏👍
A Roma si dice: buciodeculo😁

This is the song that really shows what a great drummer Nick Mason is, it would be nothing without him.
Yeah, he wasn't flashy or fast, but he had perfect tempo and was very creative, that's why he's so great
@@fernandomaron87 His tempo is all over the place. Even on the albums there are sudden tempo shifts.
@@redrick8900 I definitely notice this too, but I find the tempo shifts add to the song in a sort of way.
@@joshuas8779 A enjoyed it too but it's very blatantly not perfect tempo.
@@redrick8900 I completely agree in the sense that it is not perfectly in time, but to me perfect tempo means his tempo is perfect for the song. Just my take.
This is probably the trippiest live performance I’ve seen from the modern day, and I absolutely love it
You should see a band called hyryder out of Indianapolis Indiana
Ditto MAN
It was a great gesture from Roger giving that support for this new life of Nick. I really appreciate see this. Hope one day, David does the same for Nick.
According to Nick, David’s given him the same warm blessings as Roger.
The god has retired, but i know he supports Nick.
@@elecmaster6 Sorry what retirement?
@@spitfireaace I suspect David is completely done with anything to do with Pink Floyd. The only reason this latest single was released under the name Pink Floyd was to generate attention and donation revenue. I don't think there will be any more Pink Floyd tours or concerts, let alone new music (unless David finds some other worthy cause, which is not likely to happen). But it does look like he's not completely retired from music, as there are some rumours that he is working on a new solo album. We might hear one or two Pink Floyd songs in concert, if he decides to have a concert, but it will the same mellow classics written by him, like Fat Old Sun and the like.
The moment Nick and David do something together, legally it is Pink Floyd and that brings with it a whole host of contractual matters - so it is just not as easy for David to do this as Roger.
These kind of happenings make present day still worth living
Very good . (cycadelic )
Am I the only one who had a little cry when Nick Realized Roger was right behind him?
DanOfTheNorthEast, I’m fairly sure it was all carefully rehearsed spontaneity.
I certainly did. And Roger wasn't touring with them so how would they rehearse?
Richard Grace, he would have been there at the soundcheck.
@@mine7292 you so fucking negative...True Floyd fans aren't negative.
@@mine7292 Being in this biz I've seen dozens of these 'surprise guest' appearances, and yes they are rehearsed soundck'ed to a large degree. But something as little as Roger going up on the riser to hug Nick is just spur of the moment spontaneity on Roger's part. And Roger knows how to treat his friends and fans.
Guy Pratt and Roger Waters sharing stage.
Cool moment. Happened once before when David and Roger played that set for the Hoping Foundation. Guy played bass for the parts of the set in which Roger played acoustic guitar.
Exact thing I instantly thought :)
Very cool to see Roger and Guy on stage. Wonder if Guy was a little nervous playing this particular song with Roger.
@@xtrict yes :) maybe Roger was a bit frustrated to not playing bass knowing his ego
@@ToniMtl78 I guess if Roger only hinted at wanting to play the bass Guy would have borrowed it to him in a flash.
Just saw this show at the Beacon last night, glad I caught it, I've seen Pink Floyd 27 times as well as going to see their solo acts. Nicks selection of songs were awesome to say the least. The large majority of which I've never seen played live, if you get a chance go see this show, 2 thumbs up
I had tickets for Memphis, TN and was going to take my daughter there for her first concert and it got cancelled during Covid and never resheduled. Huge bummer for us.
This was such a killer tour. As a huge fan of early Floyd it was an indescribable joy to see a live show more akin to their pre-Dark Side days. I felt like I had a front row seat at Pompeii!
This aint PF b a long shot

I’ve got an idea. Invent a time machine so we can all experience those early PF concerts. Well... what are you waiting for then?

It's fitting that this is the song they play together. It's the only song in the Pink Floyd catalog to feature all 5 members.

@@caioramalho22 Yes, there are Syd's guitar recordings in the studio version
@@caioramalho22 Yes, Syd and David. The only song studio official in five
Doesn't Jugband Blues feature all 5?
This was also the 1st song they played together since Roger left. In 2002, Roger invited Nick to perform Set The Controls on one of his solo shows.
The fact that Guy Pratt has to remind Roger there’s a final verse and had to go get him to come back 😮
I wonder what Roger thought of sharing a stage with his replacement lol
I guess having a huge ego doesn’t necessarily mean retaining a reliable memory 🤣
I wrote that somewhere else but this post is more lively i see :D I actually think that Roger was well awared that there is a second part as he wrote that song. but later i can see Roger's showing that Gary is still playing so he had time to rest and drink out of the stage and quite frankly, i can see him little bit frustrated. that's my guess :D

The bassist and the drummer is always going to have that special thing
Then why did Roger all but kick Nick out of the band during the 1980-1985 period. He treated Nick badly, and he treated Rick even worse. There should never be any drummer recording Pink Floyd albums other than Nick Mason.
This is great!I sayjust fuckin' stupendous!Too bad dg won't stop being weird and play these songs whilst he can.

Always loved this song, what a fantastic version, gives me goosebumps listening. Legendary!!!!!
Roger, an absolute musical genius, and a great guy. I think we all have so so much to thank him for. Thank you Roger for making our life so much better.
Funny fact, Pink Floyd became boring when Roger took control, and there was barely no more instrumental music because he always has crap to say

I took some good LSD to see Pink Floyd back in the 70s. So amazing, it felt natural.
@@richf8972 It's not the reason why I listen to it. There's more to it than an altered state of consciousness. PF is more about philosophy than chemically induced happiness.

God i wish Roger had been there for the entire concert, when these guys combine its sonic magic & would almost count as a Floyd live album. Roger the genius, Roger the destroyer: always Waters over all. During the 6 gold years (73-79) what PF would have been without Waters? Who could have created those 4 gold LP ? (The Dark, Wish you, Animals and The Wall)
Cheers

Don't fall into that trap. It wasn't any one man that made it happen.
Roger was crap without the rest of Floyd and the rest of Floyd was crap without Roger. Such a shame when egos take control.

This is honestly my favorite Pink Floyd partial “reunion”. Better than David doing Comfortably Numb with Roger, better than Rick, Nick, and David doing the Syd Barrett tribute, and way better than David and Roger’s charity benefit reunion (I’m not talking about Live 8). This was spontaneous and cool to see. Seeing Roger hit that gong like old times just feels the most like what a Pink Floyd reunion could be. Just the remaining members of Pink Floyd rocking out to the early material and having fun paying tribute to Syd, the man who inspired them to not only be songwriters.
That was definitely a treat!
