People in Indian-controlled Kashmir are casting their ballots as the fourth phase of India's parliamentary elections begins.
Voting is being held in the region for the first time since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government stripped Kashmir of its semi-autonomous status in 2019.
Modi's Hindu nationalist BJP party isn't running any candidates in the area.
The decision to bring the Muslim-majority region under direct rule was deeply unpopular among residents - and some are choosing to boycott the vote.
Control of Kashmir is disputed between India and Pakistan, who have fought two wars over the territory. An ongoing decades-long separatist insurgency has left tens of thousands dead in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

BJP didn't fielded its candidates because it may become Referendum on Removal of Article 370 in Kashmir that may become handy for pakistan or Countries that are against India on this issue But the turnout this time around is about 40% which is highest in 3 decades in 2019 it was just 15% so in a way democracy has won in Kashmir

Pakistan Army directly & indirectly devours 54.7% of national resources (Stephen Cohen, 2003). Pakistan Army must keep Kashmir cause & anti-India campaign, terrorists alive for its own survival which helps it to devour huge resources (Pamela Constable). Punjabis constitute 62% population of Pakistan but Punjabis only have 26% Punjabi land. Punjabi politicians & bureaucrats also know that Punjab can not survive without devouring resources of other provinces. Kashmir cause helps in the double-devouring process. Col. Lawrence Sellin, PhD., Writer & a Veteran of Afghanistan & Iraq wars rightly observed: “Article 370 was most useful to Pakistan: It helped Pakistan spread poisonous militancy and misery in Kashmir. In rest of India, DW is concerned about minority but in Indian Kashmir they are concerned about majority. They made a documentry about Pakistan minority in Sindh but then for some reason removed it from KZhead. This is unbiased journalism. Such companies should be booted out of India. Interesting - the reported in Srinagar is contradicting herself in a single statement. That is some kind of an achievement. "In the past the Kashmiris have not turned out to vote because of fear of separatist movement, this time around they are turning out to vote in numbers to protest against the BJP's move in 2019"- which ironically is why they are able to turn out to vote. Sometimes when you are instructed to create a narrative you have no choice but to sound ridiculous.

Most of the videos by DW are not from a neutral point of view. This video is also one of them. Some reasons I can think of for doing so are, lack of quality journalists, channel being run or sponsored by people belittling India, or for getting more views on KZhead by making something on India while also angering Indians. I have unsubscribed from this biased channel, hoping to never see their videos again in the future, except for using this video as an example of how hatred is spread by a news channel.
