As someone who works with bio-metrics quite a lot, thumbs never scan well. Index or middle fingers are always what we recommend. Also it's the natural oil in your skin that makes fingerprints easier to read, so if skin is very dry most sensors won't pick up the print as well.
Great info. Loved.
My thumb prints have never had an issue being read on any other device, don't try and excuse them if that's what you're doing.
Additionally, I found more females fail to register fingers than males, can anyone like to hazard a guess why?
specially ultra sonic devices. they need a medium of interference to propagate the wave and do the bounce-back read. moisture does that. excessively and you fuck the signal to noise ratio and the "image" gets messy too little and it has problems reaching crevices and performing a accurate read.
The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner needs to be only touched instead of pressed for the best performance. It will instantly unlock the phone.

The display is absolutely fantastic, battery lasts me all day while at work and all the way to the bedroom to sleep. This phone also has the best built in audio I have ever heard from a stereo format device, its incredible...
Tomorrow will be exactly 4 years since this video was released. I upgraded my S8 to an S10+ around the same time. I really liked the S10+, and my only real complaint was the same as one of Linus", but different. I really disliked the under screen fingerprint reader, but mainly because it was on the front of the phone. I loved the rear fingerprint reader on my S8. It worked really well and my index finger just naturally found the fingerprint reader whenever I picked up my phone or took it out of my pocket and the screen had turned on and unlocked by the time I could see it. I never had to touch the power button unless I wanted to turn the screen off. But with my S10+ I would sometimes have to press the power button before I could use the fingerprint reader, but other times the screen would wake up when I picked up the phone but not realizing that I turned the screen off when I pressed the power button. A couple of years ago, I considered ditching Samsung and making my next phone a Pixel just for the rear sensor, only to discover Google wanted me to to remain a loyal Samsung customer when the Pixel 6 ditched the rear sensor. I can't be the only person out there that wants a phone with flagship level features, but with a rear fingerprint sensor. Hell, I might even switch to an iPhone [shudder] if they included a rear sensor. Instead I upgraded to an S22 Ultra, a phone I really like. Ironically, I find myself using a pair of wired earphones with it far more often than I did when I used a phone with an earphone jack. Fortunately, USB C adapters are pretty cheap. I still want a rear sensor, but at least the underscreen sensor works better than on the S10+. Maybe, I will come back to this comment in 2027 to complain the DNA scanner on the S27 Max Ultra+ takes too long unlocking the holographic display.
Personally, I don't prefer a motorised camera setup. Just saying
i agree more moving parts on your phone the less durable it will be overtime, like my iPhone 6s+ home button/finger print is completely dead cuz ive pressing it since 2015.

@@rukunas146 You cannot fix a hardware defect with software. I'm so tired of hearing this crap.
@@rukunas146 What? How do you fix a hole in your screen with software?
There is. Bezels make it impossible to get a larger screen without fattening the device. With small bezels we now have phones with close to a 7" screen and the same footprint as older phones with a 5.5" screen. I hate the random notches and pinhole cameras but it is that way for now.

Samsung hate notch so much, they're literally punch a hole in the screen
They don't hate the notch, they just don't want to be Apple's copycat anymore
That's why there are dead pixels on the screen?
It's just a notch anyway. They just put a notch on the corner on the phone, and it's almost as deep as the 3XL's, which means it takes away more vertical space than a regular notch by making the whole notification area much thicker. It's not great.
By definition its a cuttout not a notch. A punch whole doesn't block your notifications. A notch does. A punch whole is out of the way in the corner where your eyes don't focus meanwhile the top or side is an area where our eyes focus. That's why KZheadrs and news networks out their logo in the corner because your eyes aren't focusing there anyway. So no they are not the same thing. A cuttout is way better than a notch.
@Brandon B. I literally just explained how its different. there are two key differences. The size and the location. The cuttout is smaller than a notch which by definition makes it way less intrusive than a notch. The cuttout is also placed in the corner which is out of the way where our eyes don't focus. Meanwhile a notch is placed right slab down on the top or on the side. hence a notch will block your notifications. A cuttout will not. A notch will eat into an area of screen your eyes focus on. A cuttout will not. The corner of a screen is a dead area where our eyes don't focus on. Thats why youtubers, news networks etc place their logos on the corner just like the s10 cuttout as opposed to a notch in the middle/on the side. So its very much different and way better than a notch. Its out of the way and way smaller not even a mm^2 of space unlike a notch which is typically much larger and in the way.

The more you are nitpicky, the Better you are a reviewer. He is not a customer to ignore them. And mind you, Linus is the king of nitpicking

On a side note, I absolutely love my Asus Zenfone. Never going back to Samsung.

Slide up motorized camera, no thank you. Moving parts = more problems. I like the pill cut out.
thing is, it is more likely to dysfonction after a certain amount of time, but almost everyone keep their phone for 2 years or so and not longer, so it wouldn't really matter
Actually, the pill cutout is ugly, a normal notch would've been nicer, but even better if there was no front facing camera at all, you don't need to take selfies, and if you do you don't deserve a high end phone.
Wonder Lamb actually is used to deny facts
Then the samsung fold accident comes out
@@aaronlad7697 I think a notch is more ugly especially when you consider that there are often channel logos in the top left (or bottom right) corner on TV and on KZhead, so you are naturally more used to such an offset "thing" on the screen, definently better than a fat notch in the middle in my opinion. And when you watch 16:9 content there are black bars on the sides anyway unless you zoom in.
I have an S10. But it's from 1998, and it's green. And it's by Chevy.
I see what u did there 😂
@SofaWolf good one.
2003 s10 here
So it's a pile of shite then...
@@gh8447 I mean probably not I dont think shit can handle 1000 degrees of combustion temp
9:15 so thats why my phone soft reset after setting it up... I remember it pissed me off.
4:17 just a thought, did you clean the forward facing camera?
I have an s10, I actually like the hole punch , its tiny, doesn't bother me while watching videos, and does what I need it to do, I'm not a selfie taker so the quality doesn't bother me at all, I got used to the power button location within hours. all around, I love this phone, it's the best one I've ever had
Imo the s10+ is the most attractive looking notch in phones I've seen so far personally
saaame
Funny how back then a small itsy teeny weeny dead pixel on a screen can be such an eyesore, but now a huge gaping hole is fairly acceptable. For me, screen cutouts are still not good design. I don't care if there's a bezel to house the camera. Function over form, that's how it should be.
@@techiedreyn3621 a dead pixel is usually a way different, bright color. and or is in the middle of the screen, making it much more annoying than a cutout at the side i agree that a notch isnt ideal, but if i had to choose between the s10+ and one of those mechanical phones i'll easily pick the s10+
@@Marpurrsa my point is that screen cutouts are not supposed to be a problem in the first place. Why do oems insist on this stupid impractical design? Do our lives suck that much if we have to live with bezels?
A phone without a selfie camera? Consider me in!
and 99% of the population out
HurtJuice especially teenagers plenty of friends who can’t live without a selfie camera
vivo is on it. vivo apex
Never used it
@@chredu these vivo guys are legends
Well linus, almost no company used the motorized cameras anymore lol, so that definitely aged like fine milk. The problems with the fingerprint sensor got resolved with software updates. I got the s10 5g in 2022, and I gotta say it's still a great phone, will probably use it for a few years.
btw also random battery drain is also a problem on pre 2017 asus zenfones,
Honestly I'll take the hole punch over the notch any day. I'm happy with my S10
he was a bit to harsh with this review, he didn't even look at some of the fixes for the problems he mentioned like with the fingerprint scanner there is a problem with screen protector and that's why it won't work good
Honestly I prefer the decision I took over others, because I don’t want to regret my purchase and assume I know a lot
Denial
Fucking same dude I got the s10 plu and that pill shape just melts away when co suming content
Yeah I've had the S10+ for over a week. I always forget it's there unless I look for it.
Is it just me or does the dude at 7:41 look like he is about to crank one out?
No its not just u
lol i immediately looked at the comments to see if anyone else noticed.
Aren't we all?
That's Colton. He always looks like that.
Haha I have to admit the thought did cross my mind as well lolz
The only thing that bothers me is the high power button, but cases fix this problem and if you don’t like a nice infinity display than the cases will fix that problem too
After 2 years I got a used (by my brother, but in nearly perdect conditions)s10e comincia from an Honor 9Lite and Im REALLY happy with it
The speakers on the S10 with Dolby turned on is amazing
What? everyone uses phone's speakers for basically everything
@@Leo-fz7kz ... should I even or no?
I never use phone speakers for music, but only for KZhead and other casual stuff.
@@Leo-fz7kz so why is it their and why manufacturers trying to improve them? To omit is at some point and call it revolution?
@Gus Johnson its software same as Dolby surround on Windows or surround software for gaming headsets like the Logitech G933 and it does make a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference the Note 9 is proof of that. Go to any phone store turn on the Dolby Atmos feature and compare the Note 9 to any other phone out there I bet you hear a difference and its better on the Note 9. I had no expectations when I upgraded to the Note 9 but it has the best speakers I have heard on a phone since HTC first introduced front facing stereo speakers.
Dont want a slider - thick phone, moving parts, probably no water resistance. Don't want a popup camera - moving parts, probably no water resistance, and can break off.
Don't want a hole in the display-cuts off content and just outta place
@@blueshanks1 i have a crazy fix for that turn the phone upside down genius right
@@aripapi3087 wtf is that supposed to solve. When you see adults speaking, keep your bitchass shut
linus, have you done a review of the 2019 version of the Samsung Tab A tablet by any chance. Yes I still use tablets for some things that I can't use a desktop or laptop for.
Still using an S10+ and love it. Feels smaller than it is in the hand, still running fast in 2022
lol, the first wallpaper they showed off was the Kim Jong Un, literally the main reason I bought the S10+
Really Linus you prefer a mechanical front camera than the clear cutout on the galaxy s10 .
It is personal preference. He prefers it. Thing is he thinks using a punch hole or notch is backwards and, motorized cameras and double displays is the future. Samsung will not be removing water proofing from their flagships any time soon so motorized cameras is excluded.Maybe double displays which I honestly don't see it happening with a flagship.
Honestly, i prefer top bottom bezels, just make them more useful (like dual front facing speaker, just like *cough* pixel 3 *cough* but not the XL) and that would be perfect
“Clean” Lol
There a wallpaper that makes the notch the eyes of bender from futurama and it's the best thing I've seen
I rarely have problems with my fingerprint sensors
You can have them off me, when you pry them from my cold dead headphone jack. I would have an S10... but I won't when the S8 is still enough
1 week with the s10+ from my s8. Kinda wish i didnt buy it. lol If i didnt give my s8 to a family member the s10+ would be going back.
@@marianolopez101 I am kinda in the same situation as you are. What about the upcoming note 10, do you think It would be worth the upgrade?
@@willurban837 It all depends on what you use your phone for. To be honest, the S10+ is a nice upgrade from the S8. Plenty of new features to make you move up. The camera alone is a good reason to (rear camera, front sucks). What i do hate is the fingerprint reader, it's just garbage. It's going to be hard to get used to after 2 years with the rear finger print reader on the S8. The note 10 will for sure be a worthy upgrade. Hopefully by then they have a figured out smaller issues the s10+ has and fixed them.
I own note 3 for about 5 years, still running like new. Not a single reason to buy any of new phones. Samsung 1 vs samsung 20 000, exactly same phones XD I didnt get for what exactly we need faster cpus/gpus/bigger rams :-)
You’re doing the finger printer reader wrong, it’s instant
That's some interesting stuff you got there 7:25
*Antman intensifies*
Had a s10 it was shocking on battery life uk version. Interested to see your view on the s10 lite tho. Also people complain about samsung finger print scanner being slow but it works in all sorts of environments where as oneplus wont if your a bit wet.
I'm waching this on my new s10 and i love it ! Thanks for this aspect ratio btw !
Im trying to get one us it good
Get the extra granularity in the volume slider using the Samsung app "Sound Assistant". It allows for volume granularity because adjustment, double audio (like if you want both apps to be able to play audio at the same time), and a bunch of other features. It's also a part of the Good Lock bundle, which allows first party adjustment of the lock screen, task manager, and notification drop-down colour scheme.
another samsung app that does something that should have been integrated naturally.
@@kobalt8845 Some people didn't like it lol that's why now is optional

Video calls?
alexdesignovich They can add external webcams for that
@@christian_alexandar that's a pain in the ass
@@TheExtraSausage does anyone use video calls on a phone? Like, voice call, or video call on a tablet or laptop. Seriously.
True but i can't have a phone without a selfie camera. Also without it you can't do video calls.
I'm kind of happy linus was so critical of the phone as a Samsung fan. I am considering buying one and I want to know everything I can about the phone, not just the positives. I know some stuff is wrong now (camera software became better, fingerprint sensor isn't bad, didn't mention bezel mode) but I'm happy he was willing to look for the negatives. I would hate to buy a phone and find them myself.
100% satisfied with my s10+..... its excellent phone
Best feature is the battery in my opinion, that and the wicked display.
I also love how light the phone is even with a big otterbox on it
