We filmed this video about a trip to Dagestan, to the most remote mountain villages, where people still live in the old-fashioned way. The village of RUGUDJA is an avar village. We were invited by hostess AMINAT to see their traditional way of living on the farm and cook a national Avar meal.

I am also in awe how this hard working people make their living in this beautiful but harsh land. Look at this experience, expertise and craftsmanship of these ladies when providing this delicious food. I do rise my hat to you ladies and gentlemen! Thank you, exactly my thoughts. These people live full and happy lives. Actually better than most of us, they live under the law of the land, which is much healthier than our poisened environment. The only thing that worries me every time is the seemingly lack of greens and coloured foods - except for the nettle for the filling of the dumplings. I worry for their macro nutrients intake. So much carbs (flour), enough proteins and animal fats, but so little fibres and anti-oxidants. But maybe we don't see all of it. I love these videos.

I have a special love for villages of the world. They are different from one country to another or one region to the other , but yet similar in some of the aspects of culture, traditions, challenges, festivities, life enjoyment, food preparations etc. Villages are so very unique at times but, so very fantastic. this is so much more "living", compared to our "civilized" live! my biggest respect to this hard working people; they're rooted and in rhythm with nature.
Growing up in the 1950's and 60's I am old enough to remember my Grandma baking and cooking all day to make a meal. Today in America, few women do that today, I'm lucky to have a Thai wife my age who will sometimes cook 2 days in a row to make one dish, these women remind me of that kind of hard work. Young kids today do not understand the hard work of the older generation, no matter what country you come from. Today if you want an old world dish, you go to a giant supermarket and buy it ready made. If my wife of 31 years left me, I would run to a Caucasian village an marry a woman in her 70's just for the great food and good company. I also think I would enjoy the work and slower life. Thank you Ulengovs, I really like your videos.

@@cloverite I cook dishes all the time, we share the work, even when she does the cooking.
It might seem rather "unfair" to some people that your wife does the cooking(without knowing your family's dynamics) because in some cultures like American, both spouses cook, work, etc and that goes well with them. Just not every family has to be the same even in even one culture. Personally, when I was married I did the cooking always because I am a way better cook than my partner was and because I do enjoy cooking, he would do other house/family chores (although he would frequently forget them but I was not shy to remind him them). At that time (and 24 years marriage), we both worked with the same position and income. Greetings from Mexico.
Unlike now, at that time, also few women had the chance to work and live their life as they wanted. And besides, men are more than capable of cooking themselves.
@@teresamexico309 If you had read my replies to other peoples writing, you would have seen, we both cook and share all the house cleaning work together, so we can work in our gardens together. This 31 year old marriage is the 3rd for both of us, when we realized we wanted to be together, it was to share everything together.
