A better way to instal radiant heat in concrete!!

We started installing our radiant heat tubing a different way than how we used to tie it to the wire mesh. This barn is 56 X 56 and we installed all the tubing with 2 guys and my back did not even hurt from bending over to tie the tubing to the wire mesh. Now the wire is just up off the bottom about an inch and that is where you want it on the tension side of the slab.
Nice job👍I would recommend to put the manifold on and pressurize it during the pour. just in case a pipe gets damaged you can see it and make the repair.
It will always make my 'skin crawl' when I see untreated lumber buried in dirt. Love your content!
The really neat thing about that stapler is that there is no battery and charger to chase around. Super cool.

I used a FLIR to find where I can go into the concrete. Heat the lines up with hot water and they’re easy to find. It will also show if you have any flow problems. Works great!

It has been asked below but no answer yet. What brand, type, and thickness are the foam insulation sheets you are using under the concrete slab. Nice job by the way! I have a 62' x 34' and a 125' x 50' shop concrete slab to pour in the near future. I like how you ran the radiant floor heat tubing. Considering doing the same thing on mine. 👍

Thanks for educating some of your viewers about the installation of radiant heat, not familiar with it living in NC, unusual to experience long periods of cold temps. Appreciate that the BB crew/family work in such concert with each other. Speaks to leadership. I've used the same stapler. I found it jams less if you don't let the staples get too low. I'll add staples when it starts to use the last strip.

That staple gun is pretty slick and a real back saver. Over time the rusty wire reinforcement will rub on the PEX with every heating and cooling cycle of the slab, I would be concerned with future leaks. I would have used plastic chairs to raise the wire off the PEX tubing so there would be no future issues. Why didn't the first truck with the longer conveyer stay so each subsequent truck could dump in getting you into the back corner without having to use the Brentwoods?
There’s no need to be concerned with leaks from the pex rubbing the wire. Very minute/if any movement
If you use AMPEX, it comes in many R values and there is no stapling, staples, etc. It comes with a heat welded vapour barrier on top which friction fits the pex tubing. So its a very fast install
I ran rear mixers and some Oshkosh front mixers probably about 10 years ago, but I have never seen a conveyor system yet I have dumped into pump trucks and pumps

When you push that foam or any board through the table saw you should hook a few fingers over the fence that way if it kicks back the board won’t pull your hand into the blade.
Brand X is only about 15 minutes from your location! Better watch your back! LOL 😂 You might end up with some concrete shoes to go swimming with! 😊 Fin crete happens in the winter because on a cold day, when the truck is loaded at the plant, if they add very hot water when first batching the load, the drum is cold, and expands quickly, causing the fin crete to fall off as the steel expands. It’s a little tell about who rinses their truck good, and who doesn’t. Sometimes!😳😉 The joys of traveling Rt.34 in the winter!
Do you need to pressure test the pex pipe after you pour the mud? Have you thought about using a pex pipe uncoiler?

Love your floors! So if when its all done you check it with the laser, what would you say your deviation is +/- I always run stiff mix and lacking skill I'll set some 1 1/2 conduit screed pipes on home made rebar chairs, I'm slow AF setting up for certain. Most of my outdoor stuff runs a double thickness frost block and fiber mix 4.5 5k . not had any cracks. Friend wanted pro-work done for a small machine shop, they were an inch high on the edges, can't figure out how unless they used a home depot 2x4 screed
Thanks we like to stay within 1/4" when we pour. The screed chair and pipe work good if you lack wet screed experience.
I've got a basement that is about 2/3 of the footprint of my house and the remaining 1/3 is a crawl space open to the basement. I want to incapsulate the crawl and put down foam board. Should the foam board go under the vapor barrier or above it? I have no intension of covering it with concrete and I also run a woodstove in the basement.

What was the purpose of the plywood planks? The wheelbarrow wheels weren't rolling on them, the concrete poured from the wheelbarrow's weren't poured on them either. So, what was their function?

Love Supply house, order by 4pm and we have it usually next day here in CNY! Out of curiosity, how come you don't pressurize the pex tubing prior to pouring the concrete to monitor for possible line breaks? I do see the crew is super careful while dumping the brentwoods, but it seems to be common practice amongst others. No hate, just curious. Great pour!

Mechanic shop will have a boost in it? How do you suggest to your customer to bolt the boost to the floor when it has radiant heat? If be scared of pierced the tubes?
I've seen bondo hang a plumb from the wrafters after the pex is placed, and before the concrete is poured. The plumb will hang directly where the lag bolts will go into the concrete without hitting the pex

Question, some guys put foam board along the edge vertically below grade, sometimes one or 2 feet question, some guys put foam board along the edge below grade, sometimes one or 2 feet below, I’m thinking it will help prevent thermal loss from the edges of the slab. Is that an optional thing, or do you just not believe in it?

I was always told you want the tubing suspended in the floor.
Radiant heating should be better choice than forced air no recirculating of any irritants.

rebar chairs yo. your pex would perform better if properly embedded in concrete, not to mention the mesh....also , since you're using 6" mesh, its just as easy to just zip tie the pex to the mesh which also holds it together....
I thought that you have to fill the system before pouring concrete and keep it under pressure!
I'm curious what happens to the styrofoam board under the concrete over time.
Nothing, it´s denser foam type for flooring and Styrofoam is mainly susceptible to sun, temperature about 40 degrees Celsius (maximum you ever should let go into floor heating) cannot cause any damage to polystyrene foam.

Those gray 90s just bring the pex out of the slab. The orange tubing connects to manifold directly. I think they get a crimp collar on a barbed fitting.

You don't do a counter spiral layout. I imagine you get uneven heat in your slab .

ok Bondo,, how many times have you stapled your toe?
Tape your floor insulation seams. Less chance that a smaller piece will float during the pour and it creates a much better vapor barrier. We put plastic down over the dirt first which is code here, I think.
Should have taped the vapor barrier joints and perimeter to make it more effective. 6 mil probably won't last too long. Use T&G insulation and stagger the joints to keep it from floating. Have you tried using fiber mesh, superplasticiser and shrinkage reducing admixture in the mix and then no need for control joints?

Not criticizing ,but I did not understand why you did not tape the seams of the insulation.

Why are a few of the radiant tubes not straight? I know there is a reason. haha.

Why would they build something in front of the 'loading docks'? The one truck dock seems to be aligned with the new door, but the second dock is not! Maybe if they only have small box trucks using it, then they might be able to back in, but semi's or if another truck is at the left dock, you won't be able to get into the right dock!
Maybe I left that comment to early and they are putting racking in and not going to use those docks!
Better hope theres no sharp edges on your wire mesh that will poke holes in your plastic tubing.

Why not use styrofoam that is meant for radiant heat and then you don’t need to staple? That is how I did mine and it makes it simple.
The foam with the Chanel’s in it is double the price of this foam and the staples are cheap. I have to be cost competitive as I have other contractors bidding against me on these jobs.

not enough zones, they could probably get away with circulating just the outer perimeter on mild days, your install is inefficient & energy wasting!
One zone per thermostat, I don’t see a problem with that
