    • Personally, I think it's a combination of things.. He is DEFINITELY considering retirement, and this may well be (one of?) his last film(s). But he also said in that interview that there was a special exception for the perfect script, penned in gold, and handed to him by an angel, that he might reconsider. Well, Sonic 3 may not match that exactly; but it is a family movie, which Jim has been very vocal of supporting since his role as Grinch, and it's an EASY cash cow. I think Jim has a bit of a personal spot for the Eggman, being both of those things. Regardless, Variety has since confirmed he is returning as well, coinciding with the trailer release.
