More than two years on from Myanmar's coup, the country's military is facing a countrywide armed uprising - and troops are struggling to hold ground and recruit foot soldiers.
So, the military’s strategy is turning to the air, with devastating consequences.

I feel so sad as a Thai citizen who couldn't help these Myanmar freedom fighters. It made me feel so ashamed that our Thai government and Myanmar were just as great as best friends from hell. These poor innocent people have to endure so much pain without any help from any part of the world. My prayer goes to every single Myanmar citizens who respected in democracy and freedom.

Russia is a criminal country lead by the KGB mafia. I visited Myanmar 3 years ago and it is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to. The people have suffered and are still suffering tremendously due to criminal leaders supported by a criminal state like Russia. Supply them with some manpads to defend them self against airplanes, we all saw the effect that had in Ukraine. My heart beats for the Myanmar people and I hope they will soon taste real freedom and democracy.
Can't wait for the dismantling of the criminal gang occupying the kremlin. However, I can't help but wonder if it is Russia as a whole or the leadership that's the problem.

Stingers can only take out slower air craft like helicopters. To take out jets the rebels need anti aircraft missiles like SAM systems but are way too expensive

It's unthinkable how an air force pilot, who'd be a father or son to someone, can fire onto innocent civilians. Simply unthinkable.

What are the surrounding Governments of Thailand, Vietnam, Laos doing to stop this crazy military cruelty.
ASEAN members have this policy called "non-interference" in the internal affairs of other member countries. There is also division within the bloc on how to goad the junta and the opposition to talk peace. The Indochina countries (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand) wants to 'persuade' the Myanmar junta to negotiate, while Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines wants a stronger approach to pressure the junta to the table. The lack of unanimity is favoring the Myanmar rulers.

One of the underlying reasons for this is that China wants to control Myanmar. Their motive is amongst other things access to the Bay of Bengal/Indian Ocean from Myanmar, which would give them a great geopolitical advantage. This is why China supports the military dictators and oppose democracy. Russia supports China in this endeavor.

And it's absolutely clear that those governments don't give a flip about the people, just the political influence and potential bases for military.
Not quite, it's complicated. Russia supports (the Junta's army) the "Tatmadaw" because Russia sells weapons to them. China indirectly supports the "Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army" (MNDAA) an ethnic Han Chinese rebel army from Shan State. There are many other ethnic rebel armies from Shan State and other regions, The Karen armies, the Tai Shan State Armies and many more being passively supported by Thailand. If the MNDAA can take control of the Sea Port regions from the Tatmadaw and declare a union with China then India will have a problem with that, for this reason India low-key supports the Tatmadaw.
The junta got direct support from the PLA during the coup. The CCP supports both military groups and has gained concessions from both.
India should invade Myanmar and restore the civilian government. The can keep peacekeeping forces there for a while until reforms are completed, as they did for Bangladesh in the past.

Freedom and Democracy for the people of Myanmar. What I don't understand is why NATO countries have not gone beyond sanctions. At least instititute a no fly zone in their airspace, forcing the military to fight on the ground. China and Russia are helping them and the former will greatly benefit should they stay in power, so why not provide the citizens with 1/3 the assistance afforded to Ukraine? And what are the Asian countries doing?!
Why the NATO and EU's lukewarm attitude? Disappointment. The Myanmar people supported their army in the Rohingya massacre. The prevailing attitude now is: "Now that you are at the receiving end of the atrocities by your OWN army, why should we support you?"
