Hi Friends Welcome to Viktors Reality:
today I compare the Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED 34" QD OLED v1 panel vs the Odyssey G9 49" QD OLED 2023 / v2 Panel. I set both monitors as follows below to make it a fair test.
Since the new G8 OLED Software update 1504 disabled SDR Peak brightness I kept both with Peak off (even tho the G9 OLED on stock firmware does have the option).
21:9 vs 32:9 has been an eye opening experience. As there is much more information displayed on the OLED G9. This is our first time seeing tge Samsung Display QD OLED 2023 v2 panel on the 49" OLED G9. In this specific test in SDR mode I am seeing 20-30nits higher on the G9 on average.
G8 OLED - Software / Firmware 1504
Peak Off
G9 OLED - Stock Vanilla Firmware
Peak Off
Settings for both monitors:
50 Brightness
45 Contrast
10 Sharpness
23 Color
Warm 1 Tone
Med Contrast Enhancer
SDR Peak Off ( Due to G8 Not Available )

QD OLED v2 is finally here! Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 vs OLED G9 21:9 vs 32:9
Thanks. Can you please make and HDR comparison as well on the Brightness.
Hope we get some 27 inch and 34 inch v2 monitors soon!
I got an oled g9 and i love it Especially because of it’s variety of use With one click i have 3440x1440 for games which look better in that format, for instance Remnant from the Ashes or Division 2 Racing Games or others like Hogwarts look pretty good in ultrawide I had the Aw3423dw, the dwf and the LG 45“ with the rubbish solution ppi The Odyssey is the best and combines all of them I am convinced that it may stay for at least one year, maybe longer The SW is clunky, but after a while it’s (just) ok And with an icc profile i made, the picture is very comfortable for my eyes By the way i reach 21:9 by playing a game in window format Therefore it depends of the size of the window you adjust. Could be not exactly 3440 From the monitor itself there is only the possibility of 16:9 or 32:9 I don’t think that there is another way to go for 21:9 Hint: choose a dark backround and disable vrr, because of the Gsync flickering With a 4090 you don’t need vrr
Be nice if you do a video on the Neo g9 qd oled vs a 4K oled tv like the c2 or something I personally think there is no monitor visually better than a 4k oled tv until I got the Neo g9 qd oled only monitor that has visuals just as good with high refresh rate I have a Sony a90j but man this Neo g9 oled looks so good
Exact comparison I needed!
the video that killed console gaming
I have the oled 49. Stunning monitor. Gaming and productivity. Just... love it.
Nice Videos sir! Is there any chance to do a comparison of the 57" Neo G9 against the Oled G9? Compare overall image quality in HDR games. Thank you for your awsome videos!
Just got my OLED G95SC. It's my 1st 32:9 and have to say it's great. So far all of the games I currently play now look amazing. Great video like your content.👍
I too like the look. Its different and with oled its even better.
I had an original g9, got tired of the edges of the screen being stretched in games and switched back to 21:9
did you have any burn in issues until now? I just got mine yesterday, though the worry of burn in is real when using it when seeing that samsung warranty does not cover burn in.
@@mindlessmasqueradeit's been 3 months since I have been using the monitor and I have not had any issues or burn in. I am still very happy with it. I also use it everyday for work and gaming.
It sure looks impressive but it comes with a cost. I have a RTX 3070 and I'm still not brave enough to run ultrawide considering the big fps hit.
Hi can I know please how you setup the monitors like this ?
That upcoming video with peak brightness on will be interesting and tbh I can‘t quite believe what you are saying that the G9 will be brighter with peak brightness on. It sounds logic to everyone that doesn‘t have a G9, but the fact is that at least for games that are not very dark the monitor will be WAY darker with peak brightness on. I really hope you include games like Forza Horizon 5 at daylight when doing that video.
I honestly think sometimes that my monitor isn't large enough vertically. Obviously because it's ultrawide but maybe that 3840 x 1600 has that perfect width to length ratio for ultrawide. We're so focused on the horizontal periphal vision, but what about the vertical?
I sometimes think so too, but I have noticed that perhaps we should be getting closer or further from the monitor depending on what we're doing. If we're playing an immersive FPS, like 50 cm might do the trick, while for general relaxed use perhaps 60-80 cm is more appropriate. In the end 27" is just fine if we sit close to it, and the same principles should apply to a 34". That said, my perfect monitor may be something like: 38", 5120x2160, 21:9, 360 hz, OLED That'd last me for 5-10 years (or until something crazier comes along lol) But yea, I think I will start moving the screen closing when playing immersive games when I wanna be swept up by the game. One limitation however, is the very slight curve. That one is hard to do anything about, but we can at least find the sweet point of distance.
3840x1600 is LG 38GN950
This is my first 32:9 and combined with Oled games are in totally new level its like a different game one bad take is that it does not come with a 21:9 option you have to add it in windows registry
The g8 has a good price now do KZhead recomend or wait for the g9? Thanks
hey Victor great video as usual, I do have a question hopeful you or someone in the comments can answer, I have a s95b and it supports 16:9 21:9 and even 32:9 aspect ratio however when I use lets say 21:9 everything's is zoomed out in terms of FOV vs 16:9.. I was under the impression going to 21:9 from 16:9 was just wider you see more of the screen left and right.. is it just the tv or will the same thing happen if i buy a native ultrawide monitor? thanks
You need to adjust your fov option. On a tv it will fit the 21:9 to the length of the tv. But if you need it to be closer adjust it via game options. A Lower number is closer while higher say 120 is further and more can be seen.
I just swapped from the standard non oled g9 to the g8 OLED. I am actually glad to be downgrading in size as i felt the g9 was a little big despite being immersive, also hard to run even with a 4090 at max refresh rate - i feel regular ultrawide is better for most gaming cases like FPS games - story games were nice on the G9. The only downside for me is the fact the G8 is only 175hz and the g9 is 240hz
What did you think about the 1000R? The new G9 has 1800R which is much less but I'm wondering if there is a big impact between 1000r and 1800R
I bought the 45'' 240hz lg oled back in january this year now I am holding out for my first va panel that 7680x2160 on 32:9 on a 57'' from samsung I wanna compare the 2 I was gonna go for a S95c but I am more interested in the higher resolution monitor than a another 4k tv right now.
That Neo G9 will be awesome! Congrats
@@QDoledgamer I preferred the curvature on the old g9 to the curvature on the g8 OLED. But it was just many years using the screen I got used to it
7680x2160 is gonna be a massive hit to fps, good luck getting 60fps in some titles even with a 4090@@ployth9000
for me, 32:9 causes a lot of eye strain after a bit of use plus trying to find compatible games with proper FOV option is quite difficult too
I still have trouble on certain games for sure. 32:9 is a different beast but it use it or take advantage of it
Great video! New sub from Peru thanks bro
Thx... Saludos! :)
Can you make a video 4k 32 vs ultrawide? Which is better
please compare g8 qd oled vs lg c2 woled panel . tnx
Hi - I'm on the Neo G9 and considering either an upgrade to the LG Ultragear OLED 45" with the 800R curve or this Samsung G9 OLED. For both gaming and productivity, which would you recommend?
I would get this G9 OLED. That curve on the LG is too strong for the size. The 57" Neo G9 coming will be easier on the eyes as its wider. Plus the LG is lower in brightness. The LG is great dont get me wrong and can be had for around 1499-1599 on a good sale but the G9 has much more brightness and impact. But get what you want friend. If you see the LG in store Im sure you will love it. It all comes down to that curve for productivity. I cant edit on my 1000r neo g8 so I wouldnt use the 800r LG either. Just my 2 cents.. Im hearing of 38" monitors coming out not oleds (not sure) but the size will make more of an appearance.
21:9 and 45" is a sweet spot....vertical height is a lot better on 45" 21:9 plus 800R is awesome for immersive
Ive owned quite a few 49 Inch Ultrawides. They are impressive. However, way too wide for 99% of people. Downgraded to a 34 ultrawide 1000R and still very impressive without moving my head constantly.
I honestly prefer my 21:9 OLED G8 over the 32:9. Its just too wide. My fav game right now robocop is just too wide
There are significant price drops on the Alienware DWF in Europe in the last 1.5 weeks or so, with ample stocks at many places. Also price drops in the US, but not to the extent it's happening in Europe. I speculate this is a sign of something new from Alienware soon. DWF successor (or a new product entirely) with Samsung Display's QD-OLED v2 panel about to be announced, perhaps at Gamescom 2023 in August? One can hope.
I believe gamescom they will push some new things. Last yr in late 2022 they released the G8 OLED, G6, G70B etc... they will have something
I got bother monitors and sent the Samsung g9 back. Hard to explain but it just doesn’t have that POP that the Alienware does. The Alienware is just a better monitor imo.
There is one thing some people are bothered by the new G9. The 1800R curveture instead of the 1000R. What do you think? And do you think they will release a 100R in the future?
Not qd oled. Not yet. The neo g9 is 1000r but thats matte mini led. But the LG 45GR95QE can do it.
currently in the market looking at Alienware AW3423DW and the Samsung Odyssey Oled G9 it’s such a hard decision it’s so painful to choose one or the other. which one would you say you enjoy more?
The G9 OLED. If you dont update its brighter in sdr. Hdr being the same. Smart features sre also nice to have.
@@ViktorsReality hey nice to hear your opinion have you had any issues with your g9 i’m swaying away from it now as i’ve seen many many issues with these displays sadly
Does Freesync / Gsync work when you use the Picture by Picture Mode on the G9?
I have not tried. I know if 2 inputs or 2 pcs are connected its 120hz.
It's so weird on 32:9 some games looks not natural at 4:08 the signs became longer when driving on 32:9 monitor!!!
21:9 is the sweet spot, as there are far less issues in games, and also movies support that aspect ratio.
32:9 is amazing for productivity. It's literally two 2k slapped together, so you can have PC + Mac on one screen side by side. The only problem in this case is it's an OLED and they still not supported by any of the modern OS hence not good for this usage. Also movies gonna play as nicely on 32:9 OLED, as there's zero backlight bleeding. There will be literally no difference in a dark room.
@@1stRanger Even if there won't be any visible Black Bars due to the sheer blackness of OLED in a complete dark room, it would still bother me knowing the content I'm consuming isn't filling the entire screen. Also, consuming a lot of content that's not in 32:9 can cause uneven wear and tear on the display.
Actually 21:9 is a bit wider 16:9. It is really nothing special. I would rather go 16:9 (no issues) at that point or 32:9 (with "issues" that can be addressed by mods and fixes - on the PC. Not to mention that more and more games in the last 3 years support 32:9 natively). It's like comparing 4:3 to 16:9.. Initially 16:9 wasn't popular either...
Nothing prevents you from running a 21:9 + 16:9 for productivity. It's even more real estate.
I just recently bought both, I’m planning on stacking the g8 on top of the g9 has anyone done this and had any issues? I’m a tad worried if my 4080 can do it or not.
I didnt have any issues. Gitdatpc also has no problems doing exactly as you want to do. You will be fine
@@ViktorsReality Thanks for the confirmation Viktor! your video was great btw
I have great speakers next to my 16:9 32" display. I wonder where to place them with this kind of monitors. Be aware that great sound is also very imersive
Always a surround system. 5.1/7.1 dedicated speakers or the likes. This type of monitor requires a level of investment in your hardware besides the monitor itself... if you want the best experience imo ;)
What is stand used for the 2 monitors please i want to have the same 2 monitors the same way
I have it listed with the link in the description friend. It can hold 2 monitors and lots of space
I returned the g9 and got the g8, the fish eye effect gave me a headache😅 it looked incredible tho, but so thos yhe g8❤
bro when can we get the news on official release of OLED G8 V2.. if I can't get any news / promises on this, I think I may have to go for OLED G8 to improve my working productivity as my workload requires opening 2 browsers at the same time and OLED G9 is just way too big to fit in my room / table.. I might have to sleep and put that 49" monitor next to my bed if I were to buy it so imma have to skip on 49" idea..
No news yet but they were showing it in late may at sdc 2023. But I think at under 999 the G8 oled is great. If you buy just so your aware. Do not update unless you have an issue show up. As the new update removed the peak brightness option for sdr mode. Just in case you wanted a brighter picture
@@ViktorsReality hmm I see. If it's around late of May maybe I can still give it another 1 month or 2 so I guess I'll just wait for a bit more before I decide on this. Yesterday when I went to see for OLED G8 demo unit display, I realized that 1 of the monitor has flicker / some sort of distortion while playing a 2k UHD KZhead video. I'm not sure if it's a burn-in or video glitch or it's something else.. It appears from time to time. Btw nice video bruh, been subscribed for quite awhile since your review is always very detailed, keep up the good work 👍🏻
G9 looks like it has a lot of Dead space. It just blury on the sides. Motorcycle and rider is a lot smaller. And my place is dark so not worried about how bright it is. Even my old monitors are bright. And they are old. Although I going to upgrade now. Both these monitors look great and same brightness.
This is why I went back to 21:9, had original g9 and the stretching on the sides of everything gets annoying quick.
I'm tired of waiting for the Gen2 G8! I passed on a really discounted G8 Gen1 this week but really want the gen2 panel!
I feel you. Honestly if you can get a good priced G8 get it. They are still at great prices everywhere. On peak off in 21:9 its only 20-30nit difference. Hdr tho is a different story.
what is g8 gen 2?
27 or 38 inch, qhd or qhd+, in worst case scenario -34 inch there should be. V2. Qdoled panels looks great
1440p vertical resolution in 2023 is crap. A 21/9 screen should have 5120 * 2160 instead of 3440 * 1440
Yea I agree. A bit more vertical space is needed for a better experience
It's coming for 2025, with DisplayPort 2.1 to help with this task. I had read an article that some brand was working on it with OLED
Could the sharpness be due to better rgb arrangement in v2?
Thats what I think. The pixel arrangment may have something to do with it. Also no purple haze on camera as with other older qd oled panels.
@@ViktorsReality 32:9 is too big for me, currently have the neo g8 but eagerly waiting for oled g8 v2. also awaiting your neo g8 vs oled g8 comparison
I literally want this exact monitor layout with these exact monitors. How did you mount them like this? Which monitor arm did you use? This video was amazing thank you I'ma subscribe :)
Hi, thx for your kind words. I linked the monitor arm in my description. Since they weigh under 30lbs the mount can hold both easy. They make tall, short, double etc.. I just bought a whole bunch for different configurations for future videos.
Really i keep finding myself constantly watching the bottom, but that also might be because ill b3 getting the OLED 49" in a few days,
Lol. Next gen oled for the win!
7:10 if I do find 32:9 to be too wide, is it possible to run a game in 21:9 to mimic the G8? Im mainly concerned about competitive games and visual novels which dont benefit from such a wide monitor
Yes, you can add a custom resolution (i.e. 3440x1440) in the nvidia control panel and then you can select it in games. Be careful though, because running games and movies that dont take the whole screen often will eventually lead to brightness differences in your screen (aka burn in) since those pixels in the black area arent being used as much as the others. So, try to use the whole screen whenever possible to prevent it.
I just ordered the LG 45 for gaming. I think the 57” would be to big in my home. Plus more games support 21:9 ratio
21:9 is way more supported for sure. Congrats man...
Wont lie. Love all the horizontal space. That is soo fucking cool especially when you playing face pace kind of games. But honestly I stay withe G8 due to the verticality.
So how's the QUALITY WILL BE IN ODESSEY NEO G9 57 INCH ?
The 57" will be better for hdr and clarity for the size but the oled has the quality of oled.. oled is oled and if its bright enough is the best .
Thanks for this . What’s your favourite?
I cant decide just yet... but the image is better on the 9. Its close as the 8 is awesome
Wow the FOV difference is huge, looks great.
This is really fun. Brighter too!
the way 32:9 is sucking you into the game is unmatched.. it's insane!
Is g8 oled sharper than g9 oled!! Because the depth density is higher in the g8 its 109 and in the g9 oled its 108?
I just think that the new pixel arrangement or that tad bit brightness increase is seen on the G9. But its too wide i prefer the G8 oled
Hello Vik. 😊
Hey Michael! That QD OLED life... Am I right?
After seeing this I think ill just buy a really big Oled TV with good refresh rate. There just isnt enough vertical to this monitor.
True.. that vertical space sure is needed. I find myself wanting more always
Me still waiting for 16:9 QD OLED
32:9 for life!! ;)
100%
we all need oled g8 v2 g9 too big
In DOOM Eternal gameplay, the view of g9 looks streched
Fov was a bit more back
The colours look off for the G8
Why not just get a 42 or 48 C2 and increase the FOV far enough? Now you dont just get the width of the UW, but also the height? And it far cheaper with C2 going on sale often.
True.. but those black bars (even tho its black kills immersion). Ultrawide to me looks nicer on an true ultrawide vs any tv even oled. But Its all just preference.. I cant play in super ultrawide for too long tho as I am still getting used to it
@@ViktorsReality What black bars? Are you speaking about the top and the bottom ones while gaming? No, am speaking about playing in 16:9 4K but setting the FOV far out. Its like zooming out in the game. You can see the same amount of width as UW, but even the height gets filled with content. That is more immersive than UW alone. Some games dont support FOV adjustment natively like GOW for example, but there are plenty of utilities you can download and change it yourself. This is the reason why I went with 42 C2 OLED and its not anywhere near as expensive as these and 120Hz is plenty enough.
hurry up and post the next vid of the peak on and off
Basically 32:9 is like 16:9 4K in pixel count, but those additional pixels make actual difference.
I could open 6 tabs of ms excel on 32:9, now i am an acountant master race, bow before me
Nice! 🤣
I'm still hoping for a qd-oled dual 4k 32:10 240hz someday
Yeah. I am not a fan of the Fisheye effect. And the height messes with me a little. Make me feel like I am wearing a hat.
Lol
G9 looks noticeably better in dark scenes.
It honestly could be a -1 or +1 in shadow detail on either monitor. I just wanted everything to be exact here. We csn always change a small bit to fix any crush.
G9 is Overkill 😂 for gaming for sure
