Guys, as discussed in the video the rating for these coating is calculated differently. No, running the test differently will not change the result...
But does it fill in scratches that are already there? Maybe it's better as a way to repair them than as a way to prevent them?
Are you completely sure the coating even stayed applied? All I heard from the results was "we can't even tell it's there", except for the totally precise and definitely reliable tip-water-off-phone test

Its fairly common for people who do that for a living not to use the tape: it takes ages to set up, risks pulling off paint/leaving residue, and isn't really necessary if you're good. They just paint up to the edge first with a precise brush and a steady hand. it's called "cutting in"
@@AngDavies painter's tape is specifically designed not to rip off paint or leave residue...if i paid someone to paint my house and didnt tape it up first, i'd say "all the edges better be crisp and straight, or im not going to pay you" the painters would go, "fuck, maybe we should tape up the edges and lay down some plastic sheets first like every other painting contractor that has ever existed"...

im sure that no layer at all of the product was left on the phone when applied.superfine surface,no time to dry,no porous material,anti-oil coating, etc, etc. i used rain-x(water repellant coating) on the ship front windows since a lot of years, same apply method as this, and it is a great difference if you apply the product and wait till is almost all dry before you wipe the excess. if you wait,it will last much longer and work better.take in mind the time you need to apply all the windows,or in this case, apply to an entire car before you can whipe the excess, versus the time you need to apply it to half a phone.there is no time for it to bond, nor a surface to bond anywhay,it will srink in a drop.
Hey Linus! Former car detailing guy here, I nerded out about it when I was doing it for work and wound up with a big supply of some different waxes, sealants, etc.... over the years I have used these products on various phones to minimize scratches and partially restore some dinged up units.... The results were varying, but one thing that I absolutely learned was that you should, generally, NOT DO THIS TO GLASS SCREEN DEVICES. The primary reason why is that most/all of these types of products include solvents and/or polishing agents that will, most likely depending on the products, strip the anti-grease layer off of the phone's display.... This means fingerprints. lots of fingerprints. if it doesn't do this it will not have the same anti-grease performance, and I think just adds more layers of material with different refraction indexes, and makes the grease show up more easily. My phones definitely cleaned up easier, and looked better than they did to begin with. The other concern I would have is that these products generally recommend gloves and avoiding skin contact, like you clearly realize given you wore gloves to apply it.... after a few bad reactions to exposure to various chemicals over the years as well (these not included, I think*) I'm also just more careful with stuff like that than I once was.... these products shouldn't be applied to something that you handle so thoroughly and so often as your phone. Fridges, shiny surfaces you *dont* habitually touch sure, but the phone just seems like a bad idea to me.

VaroCAL Strange he’d buy that in the first place despite having no anus. Who or what did he buy it for?
I have AvalonKing ceramic coating on a couple of cars and it's a night-and-day difference how it performs. The car actually gets cleaner if you leave it out in the rain for a little while because the water beads just carry the dirt away. The dirt doesn't stick very strongly to the surface. That's great because it means less car washes and you're scratching the paint less because you're scrubbing it less often. Continues performing like that for years, it's phenomenal stuff.

I own a business professionally paint correcting and ceramic coating high end vehicles, and there is a lot of misinformation out there. Ceramic is not a filler, that’s why in an automotive setting, you have to polish or “level” the clear coat so you’re applying ceramic over a near flawless surface, or as close to perfection as you can achieve. Ceramic essentially seals in the work underneath, so if you apply ceramic over paint without decontamination or correction, it will be hydrophobic, however there will still be flaws and blemishes underneath. If you want a filler, PPF, also known as clear bra, acts as a filler for minor swirls and scratches however rock chips and deeper scratches will still be visible. Also the misconception that you’ll never have to wash your car again is false. It’ll make cleaning much easier and it is far more durable and hydrophobic than any traditional waxes or sealants out there, but you still have to wash your car. There is a lot to this that I can’t even begin to explain in a single comment, but this video is full of false information. People only think it’s snake oil because they believe the propaganda and marketing ploys pushed on them instead of seeking a professional opinion or doing their own research!
Hi. I bought a windshield glass repellent sealant for cars. I'm applying it to my smartphone screen because oleophobic coating worn of and it makes screen silky smooth again. Do you think i can damage phone screen this way?
These coatings primarily help prevent scratches by making it harder for dirt that can cause scratches form sticking to your car. Dirt that's stuck to your car has a chance to scratch it however dirt that beads off with water does not have that chance. Basically reduces scratches by reducing the chance something will stick to the car long enough to scratch it.
User error on Linus part 5:47 instructions clearly states to wait at least 48 hours and up to a week to let the product fully cure. "The longer the better" 6:16 24 hours later...
Also I believe he didn't let it sit on the phone to haze a little. Like wax, a little hazing is needed as that's when you know the product has stuck. I currently have one of these cheap ceramic coating on my phone.. And I haven't gotten any scratches on the back of the phone from my cases, nor on the camera lens too. And I mentioned cases because I've had cases that would scratch the back, so does my mom and sisters

@@randomesteven3935 I agree. Having worked along side people who do ceramic coating as a business, they really emphasize the importance of letting the product haze.
