Ukraine frontline: What the winter killing fields are really like

Richard Pendlebury and Jamie Wiseman report from the Arctic war in eastern Ukraine, where the daily artillery barrages are accompanied by sub-zero temperatures, frostbite and pneumonia. They visit Thunder company, of which only 26 original soldiers remain out of the 126 who were deployed to the front. It is a deadly game of forest hide and seek.

    @jacobhuff9069@jacobhuff90693 ай бұрын
    • I wouldn’t call this stark. It’s typical imbedded journalism, what they want you to see. Give the public just a little bit but still make it look hopeful. Same as in Afghanistan and Iraq. The battlefield has become a total horror show with drones coming from nowhere and everywhere. Total revolution in warfare and this report doesn’t show it at all.

Seriously, I sincerely suggest you watch some other content from creators (and translators) with military background who know what they are talking about. After a few minutes, they say "AR-15 assault rifle". Which it is not. It is the semi-automatic knock-off of the American M-16, which indeed has a fully auto firing mode. This video was far from excellent and got several basic facts wrong like the one I explained.

    • The sad part for me is the EU and the US starting to lose interest and not caring who wins. The best case scenario for the Ukrainians is that they will go back to the Donbass scenario of holding the line indefinitely or until, after a few years, Russia has replaced its losses and has another go. If we'd just been honest and said ' we'll help you not get overrun and after that it's your problem' rather than 'we'll help until you win', they would not have got their hopes so high only to be (apparently) let down. There's a familiar pattern to western led wars in recent decades: we go charging in all guns blazing right up to the point it becomes a difficult protracted conflict and then literally run away, leaving chaos in our wake (Afghanistan, Iraq). It sets a bad example and (imho) encourages players to take action. China has noticed this and so, obviously, has Russia.

Majority gets ak-74 but it's not that strict in the Ukrainian army so soldiers can buy any weapon they want with their own money. Same with uniforms, armor, and helmets. This soldier had dismembered limbs, if they had shown it unblurred, youtube would have blocked the video and place a strike against the channel. It's the same as showing real life nudity of any sort, it gets blocked and a strike placed on the channel. Take your complaint to KZhead management, not the channel.

  • That M45 Karl Gustav is a machine pistol. It's more for police or security details. I believe it's chambered in 9 x 19 parabellum, so for short distances it's ok, light and not too accurate. But to shoot across a field at somebody 200 meters away, you're just guessing, with such a rate of drop for that round, you might have to aim over their heads like trying to guess it's ballistic arc. I wouldn't even bother at that range. It's probably on viable clearing trenches where your enemy is 20 feet away.
