The sigh of relief when they heard “BTS hwaiting” (translating to: BTS fighting) at the end is so heartwarming. They work so hard for the things that matter to them. They make me so proud!! Love them 💜
It seems like that reporter was welling up with pride and finally he couldn't contain it anymore. It was such a sweet moment.
It brought them a little source of familiarity, cause they hear it all the time in their home country, so someone doing that for them when they're abroad probably meant A LOT. 🥺💜

I remember when they said that no man could help but unconsciously bow when coming into the presence of H.I.M. Haile Selassie I. Now they say when Namjoon comes into a room - same same. All bow. But the twist is HE bows too.

Our Shy Jungkook was seriously the only member who didn’t glance at his notes once. He maintained eye contact while giving his speech and did it so confidently. So proud of him.
I noticed that too. He recited his speech without looking at the script.
Honestly Jungkook really surprised and impressed me here. He was sooo composed and comfortable, and made his words seem completely natural and unrehearsed. So impressed!!
I think his perfectionist heart was still steaming because of the "focus on" moment and wanted to excel on this
Watching the difference in JK is so incredible, as Max pointed out when comparing one of their earlier videos with their recent(ish) post AMAs VLive JK really has grown in confidence and it's amazing to see and very evident here, too!

yoongi dons an air of nonchalance when he's proud of himself. that casual, nonchalant walk away, the :] face he made after finishing his speech, avoiding eye contact and looking down? he does ALL those things when he's proud of himself, when he's being complimented by the members etc.
Tae has a similar tell for when he's expressing something he feels very passionate about and he displayed it during his part as well /casual /related
I commented separately that I also found him to be not, as Max thought, disengaged, but he may have been doing the emotional distance thing like trying not to go there to unload (the difference is that disengaged seems to imply there is no underlying care either, whereas keeping emotional distance doesn't imply lack of care). I saw the sigh as something that showing that this is something he cares about, because topics you care about can sometimes be hard to talk about if they are handled too lightly. The emotional distance is meant as a protection.

@@404gram Actually, since I do actually vote, it's not a selfish desire at all. It's rather a desire born out of desperation since my options when voting are between death by gun vs death by knife. Neither of which i want to choose. And I have major depressive disorder triggered by the state of the world so wanting someone i trust to be world leader isn't selfish. It's common sense.

I started tearing up watching jungkook speak again. gone is that socially awkward, shy boy from a couple years ago. he's grown up so so well. the other members had that pride in their gaze when they watched him speak. in namjoon's own words, it's because "that's our baby."

Yoongi is who he is no matter where he speaks. His sigh will always be there even during vlives. Thats the way he is when he is relaxed. You mentioned disenganged, but this is his normal behaviour, he sees and hears it all but he is by nature shy and very much grounded. My bias i love how he presents himself, i think he was relaxed.
Agreed... this is Suga's way of processing. We all know he's going to turn a diss track on all of those haters in his next mixtape anyway. He will Daechwita those haters!
I think he was a bit nervous, and that is okay. One thing I've learned about him from watching some of their behind the scenes of their American award show appearances is that Suga gets more nervous than we would expect. He's got such a tough exterior that somehow it's easy to forget that he is human still and gets nervous too.

I remember how deeply anxious army were before this happened. everyone on the TL was having chest aches and butterflies in their stomach and feeling a little bit sick from the stress. meanwhile bts over there, vibing, chilling, confident as ever. SICK. my eyes started watering when namjoon started talking. I felt so PROUD.
RM has real leadership qualities, he would make a fine leader for his country one day just like he does for BTS 🇰🇷💜
did you notice Suga's little peek over at the lady's notes when he walked up on stage. If you ever rewatch this, follow Suga as he walks on stage.. he is so nosy and curious. I love it! he is my bias for a reason. That is what I would do too.. even if he was gonna hear it on a moment anyway. He still peeked at her notes. so funny!

You have always seen Yoongi speak, so it might be hard for you to understand his silence or his little mannerism. He and Taehyung/V are the 2 most misunderstood members when based on body language. They both have this air of nonchalance, disengaged around them if they are not talking. Just the way you initially thought, when V is not actively listening, he is not engaged. But he is. Yoongi is similar, even when he is not actively showing his engagement, he is there... but he doesn't feel the need to show it. Just like Taehyung. You will have to sit through a few Taehyung and Yoongi vlive. Among all the members their vlives are silent. If you watch a few of them, you would catch on to their mannerisms. Yoongi did his signature press lipe smile :]... an indication to comfort and a display of him being content/ happy with whatever he did. Tae put his hand over his heart, a sign he does in concert when he is overwhelmed with emotions.

This is a great comment. I love this channel, but sometimes it irks me when he insists things like this or no eye contact = disengaged no matter the context or circumstance. For me and many others these are signs we are actually listening extra hard rather than focusing on sitting up and staring at your face for show.
Namjoon is our president. He really is everything that a good president needs to be. I enjoyed your reaction and analysis, it’s always so interesting to see all the things you notice

Yoongi is not disengaged, that is his normal behavior. Anyone who knows Yoongi well knows this. He is also exceptionally good in dealing with journalists (especially shady ones) and doing these things . You also missed him comforting JHope after he left the podium by leaning into him. Another thing is that with his personality (Introvert) he listens and processes more. But when he speaks, he speaks with such depth. His speech during this press briefing was quoted by many media outlets around the world. Also, he took his earrings off. He tends to do that out of respect. Here’s something else…you can react to the full interview between PSY and Suga (on PSY’s channel) regarding their recent collab of ‘That That.’ Suga produced for him, but did not expect to be a part of The MV. Suga explained that it is not his style to meet people in person when he produces. Psy managed to get him to feature and dance , which thrilled Armys worldwide .
Yoongi has always been a very shy person (perhaps a bit socially anxious as well) and that shyness often presents itself as apparent "nonchalantness." Unfortunately, his demeanour is often misunderstood leading many to believe that he's someone who doesn't care or is cold and unapproachable. But in fact, most of the time, he is deeply engaged with his surroundings, listening intently to all that goes around him and he is quite sensitive to the members and to the people that are around him. He just shows it in different ways. Once you get to know him and you understand that's who he is, you begin to pick up on the unique expressions he has that show his engagement. Another thing to keep in mind is that Yoongi has expressed in the past that he has felt overwhelmed at big and significant events and kind of reacts with a bit of anxiety. He mentioned that after their very first performance at the AMAs, he cried in the shower afterwards because it felt like there was so much pressure on them now and he was fearful of that even as it was a happy moment for them. I wonder if, perhaps not as much as, on that occasion, this one would be a similar experience in the sense that he knows how much of a big deal this is and he is trying to process whatever anxiety may be coming up. But I can assure you that aside from all of that, he is so incredibly confident, he is happy to be there, he is happy to be with the members there, and he is happy to have had that opportunity. That's how our boy SUGA is and I love his personality and all of who he is!!! And SUGA is actually a huge softie, probably more than most. He just doesn't show it in an obvious way as often but he's a sweetheart with a massive heart. Thanks for the reaction!

Correction: Jin says he is “World Wide Handsome” (Meaning handsome in any time zone, any country😊). When some called him the “handsomest man in the world” Jin say “No no, I’m not the handsomest, I’m WWH”. He’s to humble to think otherwise

Yoongi does a breath intake many times when he is about to talk about something weighty, so it's nothing unusual. What you may have missed is some lovely body language when Hobi gave Jin an ecouraging pat just before Jin spoke, unless you have it on the uncut version.
Aw you missed talking about V/Taehyung’s part again. I thought his body language was interesting from the way he was sort of progressively leaning to one side and then his little sincere hand to the heart to finish up. Also his speaking voice is just so soothing! I think he’s the one that’s the most uncomfortable with public speaking which is a shame because he has such a beautiful way with words.
I felt that Yoongi’s sigh before he spoke was that of sadness (like a disappointed father.) He always strikes me as so genuine.

Yes Namjoon is a natural lead, lead of the band, on stage, interviews, president of a company, country, or world. What I really love is the real interest he shows when other are speaking or performing. He shows proud in all the members do, and is the first to point out the members talent, and goodness, rather than shine the spot light on himself. Sign of a great leader. They looks like true gentlemen dealing with a serious problem in a very adult manner. I was very impressed. 💜
One thing I love about BTS is that they always take time to remind people that they are still just young musicians who were put in the position they’re in right now by unimaginable success they didn’t foresee, and that what they’re gonna keep doing, is what they’ve Been doing. and no matter how much diplomacy there is a sense of bringing back where their responsibility starts and most importantly where it ends.

There's a reason why we call Namjoon our president I really liked how they looked so comfortable even though I'm sure they were very nervous. Jungkook was actually wringing his hands as he spoke which made me realize he was very nervous but he did such a good job of delivering his message
RM is ready to be world public figure...he got the charisma and the intelligence to advocate whatever he wants to focus on. He is smart and he already mastered the knowledge of mass communication...
Oh yes. I think one of his best qualities is the ability to listen to you. Listening with both the Heart and the Head. When Namjoon talks to you (or even listens to you) he conveys the passion HE feels. When Namjoon speaks, he puts into words who he is. Always with sincerity. Namjoon has grown a lot thanks to the members (not that he wasn't ..), but it is precisely because the group itself created the "family" relationship, that Namjoon respects and tends to value all members; sometimes preferring to take a back seat. This is evidenced by the fact that over the years he has encouraged other members to speak at Award shows or encouraged them to believe in themselves when they try to speak English during interviews. Be yourself without fear. On this particular occasion (a very important moment for all of Korea), all 7 expressed their opinion and he blindly believed in his family. In fact he "only" made the opening and closing of the Speech. (It was much more than only ...) Sometimes it seems to me that he trusts them more than himself, and THAT TRUST is reflected in the person he has become. In my opinion, believing in people is one of the qualities a President must have and Namjoon certainly does. Sorry for my English....Bye from Italy! 💫
I actually took Suga's sigh as being himself and also expressing his feelings about the issue - that anti-Asian racism is an exhausting experience and doesn't make any sense, especially in this day and age. When I first watched the speech, I immediately related to him, like yeah I know, the fact that we have to be talking about this, when our differences are not wrong!

They're truly the ultimate role models for youth of this generation. I often show my kids videos of BTS specifically on their politeness, humility and how they conduct themselves. I act so proud and excited that my kids think I'm actually related to them. 😄

I hope you've had a chance to watch this in a wider angle, especially at the beginning. When Karine turned around and acknowledged BTS, Hobi did a little dance and Jungkook clapped. I love that little show of personality. Taehyung touched his chest several times, in a gesture of gratitude. Once when he stepped onto the stage and when he left the podium, as well as back stage after this bit. He also said wow and smiled when he first saw the packed room.
RM is a great young man whose confidence and steady attitude always help the others become more comfortable and trust themselves in public...I still remember the moment when RM felt emotional and grateful while all his members praising him sincerely that "you are the best leader!"

I'm glad you brought up Obama when talking about how presidential Namjoon can be, because I always thought they were very similar in mannerisms. I know the big story is that he learned English from watching Friends, but I always wondered if he studied a lot of Obama giving speeches and interviews as well because they feel so alike.
They made me so proud, it makes me so glad that they always use their voice to speak about important issues. RM for president 😅

Yea, that's certainly not an uncommon thing for him to do to release a little tension. Though I have to admit, that was one of the biggest sighs I've heard from him😅. He must have been really readying himself for what he had prepared to say🙂🙄
Seems crazy to think a 27 year old could be a world leader. Then again, we declared him President in 2018 when he was just 24 and speaking at the UN.

Jimin's speech was highlighted in most medias. He always delivers heartwarming meaningful message
BTS are impressive for how they have grace under fire. They remind me of the speech by Theodore Roosevelt "The Man in the Arena". Not only was this monumental historically speaking and going forward for the future, but they put themselves out there for a worthy cause through there are many who would mock them for it. That is a quality of courage that we all can look up to, and they inspire me to be a better version of myself.
They all appeared relaxed & confident when speaking. I think it helped that their speeches were short. And If they were nervous it didn't show as much as it did when they spoke at the UN, when there were some nerves especially from Jimin but he did so well. Very impressive they all were xoxo
I think Suga’s sigh was more like..’ok here we go...’I think he was a little nervous but very happy to be there because he did his little ‘happy smile’ at the end of everyone’s speech. Suga’s behavior is an introvert and is the most difficult to understand but once you watch him more it is easy to understand. This is just my opinion but I think Suga is the most comfortable... and himself when it’s just the 7 of them...🤣 Suga is really quiet but he is the most ambitious among them🤣(according to Jimin🌟)🤣 RM IS the President of Army and Borahae-land💜🤣 One thing beautiful about BTS is that they always appreciate each members individuality and it comes across when they tell people should learn to accept and appreciate diversity💜🥺it’s just the way they are...they are honestly truly accepting of diversity💗 I like their song ‘respect’ by RM,Suga and it discusses what respect is in a cute way...and they were so young when they made that🤣💗
Kind of funny how Max said Jimin and Jin looked very calm while I had a very different vibe. To be fair I've been an Army for longer than he had but while Jimin of course liked composed you could see him chest breathing (which indicates nervousness) and he darted his eyes around a lot. Jin on the other hand often looked at objects instead of people and blinked a lot. He usually does that when he's nervous (especially during deep conversations). That being said I'm really proud of our boys! This must have been incredibly stressful for them and they absolutely killed it. If you haven't been an Army for years then you wouldn't even pick up on them being nervous because they just oozed confidence! On a side note, it's also interesting how he interpreted Taehyung's and Yoongi's speeches. Because to me (and from what I know most Army's) it was super obvious that Yoongi was veryyyy proud after standing back again. It's just... Over the years you see it quite a lot and the way he tried to look nonchalant but kind of waddled and smiled like :] it was just obvious. And the sigh at the beginning was just sooo him, you won't get Yoongi without that. It's part of his baseline and definitely doesn't indicate that he's uncomfortable. Taehyung also tries to look nonchalant when he's proud (like when receiving compliments) but he always has a small smile and looks down.
I'm so proud of the guys, they did an amazing job and are just amazing human beings!😊

Namjoon being president is no joke. He has a natural sense of leadership that can't be taught. He can give an impromptu speech to a room full of politicians, scientists, parents, kids, reporters, artists, animals, or whatever and he will still command attention and respect. If there was one take away from this press conference, it was "It's not wrong to be different." And those are Yoongi's words. His messages are always short, sweet, and memorable.

There's so many things I noticed when I saw this! The biggest one of relevance was that all of them dyed their hair black and I know it has cultural significance for the official setting but I also loved how there's probably some young asian kids watching that felt pride seeing BTS look like the kids themselves and be more closely relatable in that sense. They didn't have to show up with their hair black but they did and I feel it spoke volumes on several levels and it added more height to feeling proud of them! Secondly, Jin blushes with his ears when he gets shy or embarrassed and after his speech they got red so I know he had storming emotions within but he kept enough poise that it didn't show. I could hear that they were very nervous but they all did so great. I thought it was a super huge moment to hear Korean in the white house and it made me emotional that I happen to be learning the language at this point in history so that I could understand parts of their original messages instead of just the translation. I'm extremely glad that they could express themselves freely in their most comfortable language and as someone with English as my second language I am crazy proud of RM for being able to speak at such a formal event so comfortably. I'm so proud of them!

I have never been in the White House. BUT...I have been at the Top Golf where V and the others were golfing, the day before this event. We used to go there all the time when we lived in that area. I couldn't believe it when I saw the social media posts! Very cool.

What a proud day for BTS, ARMY and the world. Suga for me commands a room no matter if he seemed 'disengaged' whenever he speaks. Maybe he is feeling the pressure on that moment, it goes to what he said that they are the first ones to do these incredible things and it's nerve racking to say the least, no one has done this before except BTS. It's exciting as well as scary.
I love your reactions, clearly you should analyze the "Dear Class 20" speech (if you haven't seen it yet), give a message to the graduates of that year (in the context of covid 19) and talk about their experiences. It is immensely emotional and inspiring.I personally realized the impact of these guys on the current generation with that video

Because of SUGA's own experiences, he's the one who will relay the gravity of a message and I think he did that by sighing before he started to speak. He empathizes with people in this situation. He's not going to sugar-coat discrimination and hate crimes by smiling about it, whereas j-hope makes you feel hopeful about the situation because he smiles through the pain. I would not think SUGA is disengaged, I think he listens very intently (though he probably knew exactly what the others were going to say), he just doesn't look at the others which speaks volumes about his communication style.

Hi Max - As a baby boomer, many people in my life (young and old) have been aghast that I am a BTS fan (growing into ARMY, truthfully). I'm looking forward to sharing with my nay-sayers BTS' visit to the White House and speaking with President Biden about solutions for anti-Asian hate. I agree BTS' time at the WH was way too short. But their presence at all is what is important. I loved what you said so beautifully about BTS: People are "getting a glimpse of them, experiencing them - this can open people's minds and hearts to them and what they offer... their wonderful influence on this world. I love all of them and I always find it interesting to watch your analysis and reactions. I have noticed that Taehyung gets left out a bit. Him and Yoongi are my biases so of course I would love to hear more about them. It's a small thing though, overall I am very thankful for your videos and your time 💜

Yoongi most likely started feeling anxious. He has been open about his anxiety so it's very likely it turned on a bit during the situation

I thought Jimin’s piercing eyes presented the best the anger, frustration, and resolve regarding this topic - on behalf of the weaker in this world. To me, Jimin seems to always interpret the occasion or the art well, and creates & expresses the tone precisely.

RM has the charisma of a great leader. The members follow him, because they trust him. He always put the others in front of him. He never said any negative thing about the others. He do everything to raise them up and this is really rare.

i think why RM seems more engaged than others is because he was able to understand English better than others. so he paid more attention to what the lady was saying, nodding his head along to what the interpreter was translating and apologizing when the lady denied any questions
