  • For the 50s they did this very well. The effects are simple but effective. The motivations are realistic, and little Deborah wailing, later Victoria waterfield on doctor who, was adorable.

  • Of all the interpretations of the Invisible Man, this is still the best. The two American takes from the 70s (The Gemini Man with Ben Murphy and The Invisible Man with Illya Kuriyakin 🤣) were really kinda boring in comparison. And this was a very good suspense series, enough so that they could easily tell the stories without the "gimmick" of the invisible man. I also loved how they were able to keep the actor(s) playing the Invisible One hidden for years. The special effects were very good for the 50s, with some that still astound 60 years later. The scene where he bends over so that Sally (the wonderful Deborah Watling - I love her in this series) could see that he really was invisible. For years I had NO idea how they managed that shot. They also did a number of scenes with Peter smoking; whatever my feelings about smoking (and I loathe the practice intensely), that was still an amazing shot. The show also had some great British actors of the time, including Jack Watling (Deborah's father) and Deborah's future Doctor Patrick Troughton. My favorite story about the series involves the tricked-out car to make it look as if the Invisible One was driving. Not realizing that they were filming, an onlooker actually thought the car had lost control and immediately drove in front of the car to stop it and prevent a major car crash. Which ruined the shot, of course, but that showed the believability of the effects. It was exquisite, and I loved this series so very much. Thank you for posting this series!

  • At 14:00 into this video, a notable British actor portraying a doctor speaks to the invisible man about the power he has suddenly inherited, what with being invisible. He explains to him that he can have all the power in the world and untold wealth because of his invisibility. You have to ask yourself, is invisibility one of the keys of God's secret powers.
