The texas rigs has been around for years but it is truly one of the most versatile rigs that we have as anglers to catch fish from deep water to shallow water, in the mud or in clear.
In this video I want to go over everything when it comes to a texas rig. I'll show you how the rig a texas rig, what my favorite plastics for a texas rig are, how i fish it deep, how I fish it shallow and some big texas rig mistakes.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

  • Tyler, thank you for the time and effort you put into the content of your videos! I’m an experienced, hard core bass fisherman and there is always something I take away from your videos which isn’t true for about 90 percent of the content available.

  • Tyler, 90% of of our fishing in my home province in Sojth Africa is texas rigged soft plastics due to the massive amount of grass. I found that a frog hook works really well and protects your soft plastic bait more than any other hook. Ga not affected our success rate at all. Stunning video and channel.

  • That tube hook you are using is a game changer! I almost stopped fishing a tube until I found the trokar tube hook. It sticks them and holds them.

  • I use Berkley fusion screw lock swim bait hooks for my Texas rig stick baits and round bodied craws. It helps the bait not get flung off as often when the fish jumps and thrashes around.

  • Fellow Buckeye... loving the content, and it's nice to see someone finally mentioning using a tube for something other than St Clair smallies. I also love nose-hooking tubes on drop shots & carolina rigs... and, if all you have is hollow-body tubes, you can cut off a piece of a beat up senko and shove it in the tube for more "body" for the hook to bite into.

  • Glad to see I’m not the only one who throws swim baits and swims curly tails on a weighted Texas rig I’ve been slaying bass for years with Texas rig paddle tails only difference is I use cheap lead weights if I’m swimming them if I’m fishing on bottom I’ll use tungsten I also use ned heads for swim baits sometimes as well no wonder it’s like you read my mind were from the same area I’m from Indiana just across the Ohio border the same techniques work for us I use the Texas rig probably 60% of the time and I use the same techniques just different brands I prefer the bandito bug and split tail menace for flipping and I use yum dingers

  • I’ve been mid strolling/ hover strolling with a Texas rigged or texpossed VMC finesse neko size 1, Zman trd minnowz and an unpegged 1/32 oz weight. Amazing what a difference in casting and action in the water with and without the tiny weight. Fishing in 2 feet or less of water depth. Catching small bass though , 1-2lbers.

  • We fish texas rigs very similar along with the baits, found the adrenaline crawl last year caught a ton of fish on them, the Ol monster used to be my favorite big worm but found another Xzone winner, the Blitz Worm, it is made out of the same floating material as the adrenaline crawl, also love throwing a tube on a texas rig, I seem to get bigger bites on a tube, the BioSpawn Vile Tube is another great bait

  • Also the importance of setting the hook hard (per Dad 60 years experience) after you reel down will eliminate gut hooking the bass. It usually jerks the bait out of the crusher (throat) of the Bass and hooks in the roof or some part of the mouth.

  • Tyler you have to try the Z-man GOAT sometime, I have found that it is probably IMO the best punching bait out there. That is factory in size, appendages, action, and most importantly durability between beating it up through mats with that heavy weight and also can catch multiple fish on one single bait.

  • I'll use rage craw delta red crayfish. I'll use a 3/0 ewg superline offset hook with 1/16 weight with trophy bass. I let it fall 3 to 4 seconds. Moderate retrieve 3 to 5 seconds slightly raise rod tip then lower rod. Reeling line Moderate tempo the whole time even with raising and lowering rod tip. I put trophy bass on. No luck on this rig yet but will keep trying a bit if no luck then I'll put this rig away or stop using it. The reason I stopped using this I never got bites on it. I fish this rig well even subsurface in the summer and nothing yet.

  • I always peg the weight if I don't want it pegged I just slide the stop up the line saves time retieing and helps keep the weight from sliding too far up the line when casting I have a tendency to throat hook a lot of fish on Texas rigs seems like if they're big enough they engulf it before you get the chance to set the hook any tips to help prevent or reduce that

  • The hardest time I have with punching is when the lure gets hung up in some thick vegetation down at the bottom. It feels a lot like a potential bite, it's very hard to not set the hook constantly... I just got to your pumping section and perhaps I'm thinking of punching wrong? I have been punching 4-5 feet into mat, and then trying to work it through the mat on the bottom back to the edge, I guess that isn't the way to go about doing it, since of course that makes it more likely to gather stuff on the lure/line.

  • Idk why everyone calls a green pumpkin a natural color lol its a more universal color that can be fished from slightly stained water to dirty water. Watermelon seed or with red is a more natural color then junebug or black blue for muddy dirty water. To me weight depends on depth or how thick the cover is. I'll never fish more than a 1/4 oz in shallow water unless there's thick vegetation where I'm fishing and generally I fish 1/8th to 3/16th the most. 3/8 to 1/2 oz for deep water (more open) 1/2oz to 1 1/2oz for thick cover flipping and punching. The bait imo is also on clarity of the water I'm fishing. I very rarely use a beaver bait because it doesn't move much water and I need that water displacement due to fishing dirty to muddy waters (similar to Florida) all the time.
