When this song came out,, we had NO idea, that we would never be able to go back to the 80's again. So many fantastic memories fill my mind when i hear this song. The 80's were wonderful for me. I always get tears in my eyes whenever i hear this song. I would give anything to go back. Sit on the porch with my grandparents, have lunch with mom and just talk. Run and play with my dog. It was such a care free time for me filled with love. I am 62 and missing the world of the 80's.

Amazing music, playing outside with my friends all day, riding bikes all over the neighborhood, drinking water from the hose, Atari, break dancing on the corner, lol. The music in the 70s, 80s and 90s were the greatest! Even the movies then weren't sequels or rehashes of junk you didn't like the first time around. A lot of the music then was hopeful, about love, about peace, and about trying to find it. Nothing today compares, though there's always hope for new music to evolve into something cool again. Fingers crossed!

They were at a Whitney Houston concert and noticed a shooting star. This inspired this song. It was written for her, but she passed. I’m glad to see these two sing it, and it still sounds awesome today as it did back then. EDIT: Some people are confusing "passed" for "died". Whitney was not interested in singing this song, so she passed on it.

To me, this one reminds me of a time when I was in 9th grade. It was a time when nobody really judged me for being a person of European descent. I had classmates who were of African descent, most of the people on my school bus were of African descent, and about half of my high school band was caucasion, and the other half was of African descent. We all got along, for the most part. Nobody seemed to care. We were in school to learn, and we were in the band to kick the shit out of the other schools band. That is what we worried about.
This song is an absolute gem, and one of the very few uptempo tunes that’s EVER made me cry, but in a good way.

1988, on vacation in Florida. This song was on every station in South Florida. I'd hear it twenty or thirty times a day and never got tired of hearing it. That holds true to this day.

I'm 64 today and when I listen to this music, I feel like I am emotionally transported back to the '80s. When all my family and friends were still alive and close. The most beautiful decade of my life and nostalgical. Gives me a lump in my throat.

The 60’s the 70’s and the 80’s was the best music ever produce in history music from those 3 decades will be around forever.
Actually thee best decade of music was the 1970s. More categories than ever! True new raw talent at it's finest. Real musicians and Real Singers. No computerized drum programming, no voice machines. The 1980s was the last decade of real music for the most part.
This song to me is the epitome of 80s pop perfection. I love everything about this song. I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. My most favorite parts being the chorus, bridge, and the sax solo. And this is another song that always makes it on to all my music playlists. That’s how much I love it. One of my all time favorite 80s pop songs.

Only 34 but woke up with this song stuck in my head. Never heard the whole of this song play before, all i knew was 'waiting for a star' and just kept humming the melody in my head. Just managed to find the song now, it did not disappoint. In terms of music, the 80's was nothing short of magical. Oh and the sax - wow!! 😁
This was 'my' song about a guy I loved (turns out he felt the same) but I was too proud and he too scared...... the one that got away 😊 I couldn't find it for ages online and when I did it brought back so many memories

George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, fine songwriters who wrote a bunch of hits for others, primarily Whitney Houston, finally got a chance to record themselves in 1988 for RCA. Got this on on a cassette single (stores were phasing out 45's then), and later on CD. I was doing Country on WHPO back then, but saved this for later use on KBOA. While capturing a moment in time that no longer exists, the song is timeless.
